I've received a reply:

Jarid,

I'm a senior producer at Six Degrees Games and ultimately responsible for R.B.I. Baseball, currently being developed for Xbox LIVE.

We're not really responding to formal inquiries about the game at this time, but as R.B.I. Baseball fans, we relate to you in a big way. It's that same love for R.B.I. Baseball that made us sidetrack from the development of our virtual world (Action AllStars for young sports enthusiasts) in order to remake this awesome game for LIVE.

It's not a port, but the re-write is being done by people who were members of the old R.B.I. Baseball development team, and so a lot of the old nuances are being preserved.  It's still easy, fast and fun baseball that doesn't require a complicated control scheme and it will feature the present day MLB teams and players.

We're having a ball testing it!  The feedback from external groups is really positive, and I hope you can wait just a little longer while we put the final tuning on the game.  There's not much more I can say than that, and I won't be able to answer any direct questions at this time.

Best regards,
Jason Ray
Sr. Producer
Six Degrees Games
Darrell Evans for MVP!

I asked him for permission to post his email here, and he ended that reply with "PS.  I hope you'll someday update the drinking game rules for the 2008 version of RBI..."

This is outstanding news. Great work, Beef. Would it be acceptable to use this information at Your Face?

there are also folks complaining about the lack of Bobby Grich, Dwight Evans, and Willie Randolph.

Big Hath

awesome work beef

and thanks to Jason for responding

sounds like it will not quite be the same game but having people who were on board for the original RBI can't be bad

The PS is the best part.  Pat on the back to Jason.

the dude either has some high float or a mess between the cheeks.

We need to start a letter writing campaign to make sure there's no diving/leaping skinny players.

I am officially pumped for this, but a rewrite may lose some of the luster to us "take the game too seriously" players.  The confusing part of that email is the

"the re-write is being done by people who were members of the old R.B.I. Baseball development team"

Because as far as I know, Peter Lipson was the only guy who ported RBI from Family Stadium.  Though perhaps it means guys on the RBI 2&3 coding, not sure.  Either way, these guys have their hearts in the right place so I think it'll be a success.

Mr. Blubbo

Will Gantry be the only person in the world that buys an XBOX 360 to play a re-make of a 23 year old game?  I think yes.
Here's your ball!

TempoGL

well, it's only a 21 year old game...and i have been on the fence regarding buying a 360 for a while now, this may be the thing that puts me over the edge.

it's really cool that it is being updated, but for the love of god, PLEASE LET IT HAVE A SEASON MODE WITH STAT TRACKING!

Mr. Blubbo

You know that this game will never pass any of your standards and you'll all be disappointed.  Also realize, you'll have to buy a 360 and then buy XBOX LIVE which is an extra $50/year.

Have no fear. Even that milk addict Gerlost can afford that $50 a year.  He may have to cut down to 1% though.

I checked with Jason just to make sure, and he pointed out that if he wanted to keep the info confidential, he'd have ignored me in the first place.  Fire away.

I demand that the blogosphere posts long and hard about this updated RBI.

Considering that the NES game was essentially a translation of a port of a Japanese arcade game, I don't see how the original devs could be involved. I'm not really excited about a remake, but I'll find a way to check it out.

That's why I mentioned parts 2&3, I think they are basically US developed...

I made a similar comment on fighton's blog - there was a decent-sized credit list for those, and I think it was all done in America, since the changes in the sequels never made it back into the Family Stadium series.
