The road to SuperTecmo Bowl X.

I'm using the other dynasty rom for this playoff run. It's the one with higher offensive parameters and not the same rom as the last tourney I ran. I'll have to finish it tonight, cause this rom is stupid because if I turn off the virtual nes, the season resets everytime. The 83 Redskins won it all last time on this rom, but the 85 Bears are still the defending champs.

Steve Young's 40 yard scramble into Rams territory in overtime set up Mike Cofer's game winning field goal as the 89 49ers held off a second half comeback by the greatest show on turf.

Joe Montana was ruled out before the game due to injury and his replacement Steve Young filled in brilliantly.

The greatest show on turf suffered a critical loss on the first play from scrimmage as the team's main weapon Marshall Faulk was injured on a running play. Kurt Warner struggled against a defense who quickly adjusted their game plan to stopping the pass and ignoring the run.

George Seifert did not comment about Montana's status.

Franco Harris showed a little something extra in the 4th quarter as he relentlessly broke tackles on a tired Jets defense. Harris rushed for 153 yards and added another 50 yards receiving.

Terrry Bradshaw, the only quarterback to call his own plays, mixed up the run and pass very well as he kept the Jets off balance by passing on running downs and running on passing downs.

Super Tecmo Bowl X

98 Broncos 21

Terrell Davis was stripped of the ball on the Bears 25 yard line in the third quarter. The 85 Bears scored on the ensuing possession and turned a close game into a blow out in the second half. The Broncos turned the ball over 4 times in the second half while the Bears scored on all of their possessions in the second half.
The 98 Broncos seemed to have control of the game with a 14-10 lead and in  Bears territory on their opening drive in the third quarter, but the 85 Bears showed why they are champions with their opportunistic defense.

The 85 Bears are now the first back to back champions in Super Tecmo history. They won a record 3rd Super Tecmo Bowl Trophy behind the strength of their stout defense and the running of Walter Payton during their playoff run.

02 Buccaneers 24
85 Bears 20

There will be no 3 peat. The 02 Buccaneers stunned the 2 time defending champions at Soldier Filed.

Warrick Dunn scored the game winner on a 25 yard touchdown swing pass with 2:38 left to play. After the catch, he made an amazing juke move on Mike Singletary and ran by the secondary.
Moments later, Warren Sapp and John Lynch caused Walter Payton to fumble in the final minute of play and killed a Bears comeback deep in Buccaneers territory. Sweetness was held to a career low 35 yards by Monte Kiffin's disciplined and tough Tampa Two.

Warrick Dunn's speed and lightning quickness was too much for the 46 defense to defend. Buddy Ryan had no answers to slow him down. Warrick Dunn scored three touchdowns and accounted for over 200 yards of offense.

The 85 Bears 7 game winning streak, which is a Supertecmo record, came to a halt at the hands of a masterful coaching job by Jon Gruden and Monte Kiffin.

"The Tampa Two was the better defense today" stated Mike Ditka.
