Dungy's two deep defense bent a lot during the game, but managed not to give up a huge play the entire game as Walter Payton was contained. Jim McMahon struggled on key third downs as he was off the target a few times.

Dungys Bucs were the 1 in the Vikings 15-1 record during the 98 season.

You best recognise!  But if they want to borrow him for Tecmo purposes, then so be it.

Damn....I should have double checked. Dungy went from the Vikings as d coordinator to head coach as the Bucs in 96. I kept thinking it was after 98....I'm slipping...

and I can't find anywhere who was the d coordinator for the Vikings in 98? The interwebs aren't showing me anything.

AFC Divisional Playoffs

78 Steelers 28
88 Bengals 27

Terry Bradshaw hit the acrobatic Lynn Swann in the endzone with under a minute remaining for the game winning touchdown in a highly competitive game that saw 4 lead changes.

With 2:29 remaining, the 88 Bengals were down 21-20 and marched 80 yards on the strength of Sam Wyche's no huddle offense. Eddie Brown made a diving catch into the endzone on a perfectly thrown ball by Boomer Esiason. But the 78 Steelers showed why they were the team of the 70's with an inspired drive led by Terry Bradshaw.

The difference in the game was field goals. Too many of them by the 88 Bengals. The Bengals twice settled for a field goal and missed one before intermission.

Chuck Noll credited Joe Greene for slowing down the no huddle offense of the 88 Bengals. Joe Greene recorded 6 sacks, 4 of them coming on third down.

NFC Divisional Playoffs

01 Rams 24
98 Vikings 20

Filling in for an injured Marshal Faulk, Trung Canidate put the the defending Tecmo Super Bowl champions on his shoulders and scored the winning touchdown on a 30 yard touchdown run with 1:24 remaining in the game. Canidate also accounted for 108 total yards in the 4th quarter.

Randall Cunningham ran out of time on the 01 Rams 42 yard line as he was violently sacked by Grant Wistrom.

The explosive Vikings passing offense was shut down by Rams defensive coordinator Lovie Smith and his Tampa Two defense he learned under Dungy.
However, Robert Smith and Leory Hoard combined for 165 yards rushing and their heroic efforts kept the 98 Vikings in the game.
Randall Cunningham suffered one of his worst days ever as a professional as he passed for 19 yards and connected on 16 percent of his passes.

Dennis Green and his vaunted 98 Vikings once again fail to advance to the Tecmo Super Bowl while the Greatest Show On Turf appear to have that swagger that reflects the extreme confidence of innovative head coach Mike Martz.

How did Smith and Hoard combine for 165 yds rushing when Smith led the team with 81 rushing yards?

Randal had about 10 yards of scrambling. I realized that after I wrote the post game....and was too lazy to go back and fix it. But Hoard had some big gains and helped move the chains.
Sorry about the inaccuracy. It won't happen again.

AFC Divisional Playoffs

98 Broncos 38
90 Bills 17

In a highly anticipated match up of two great teams, only one team showed up. The 98 Broncos jumped out to a 17-3 lead by halftime and never looked back as they blew out the 90 Bills 38-17.

Terrell Davis was unstoppable all night and showed the world why he is one of the best running backs ever to play. TD rushed for 168 yards on 13 carries as he made John Elway's job easy as quarterback.

Asked by reporters about his age and future in coaching, Marv Levy replied "The age factor means nothing to me. I'm old enough to know my limitations and I'm young enough to exceed them."

In other news, Dee Nee icon GDavis was not surprised by the result. Billieve? HA!

NFC Divisional Playoffs

91 Lions 17
82 Redskins 31

Of what seemed like an eternity standing in the pocket, the Hogs gave Theisman all day to dissect the huge underdog 91 Lions.

Theisman completed 60 percent of his passes for 221 yeards.
Art Monk caught two touchdown passes for 45 and 58 yards as Joe Gibbs 82 Redskins comfortably beat the 91 Lions 31-17.

John 'the diesel' Riggins was held to 47 yards on 10 carries, but still managed to score two toucdowns.

Barry Sanders was contained, but still managed to rush for 114 yards on 14 attempts. Erik Kramer had little time to throw the ball as he was harassed all day by Charles Mann and Wilber Marshall.

The 82 Redskins will host the NFC Championship at RFK Stadium as the Greatest Show On Turf brings it's high powered offense into the nation's capital.

AFC Championship

78 Steelers 10
98 Broncos 21

The ball bounced the 98 Broncos way today as they recovered 3 fumbles and converted all three fumbles into 21 points and are on their way to their first Tecmo Super Bowl ever.

Terrel Davis fought intense migraine headaches all day and gave the Steel Curtain a heavy dose of his downhill running as he rushed for 143 yards on 20 attempts.

Mike Shanahan elected to limit the passing attempts for John Elway against the Steelers furious pass rush as he called for only 7 passing plays.
Elway threw for only 53 yards, but they were effective yards that moved the chains. Having Terrel Davis in his backfield made that decision easier.

The 78 Steelers were shut out in the second half which killed potential drives in Bronco territory. Franco Harris and Rocky Bleir each fumbled once in the second half, and Terry Bradshaw was intercepted as well.

NFC Championship

01 Rams 24
82 Redskins 17

After an explosive first half that featured all the offensive fireworks a fan can wish for (17-17), the second half was the polar opposite that a traditionalist can appreciate.

Marshal Faulk scored the go ahead touchdown in the third quarter as the 01 Rams held on for a 24-17 AFC Championship victory.

London Fletcher blocked a Joe Theisman pass and prevented a possible game tying touchdown as time ran out on Joe Gibbs and his Redskins.

Marshal Faulk rushed for an amazing 118 yards on only 6 attempts. Kurt Warner had an efficient day and made no mistakes. He threw 2 touchdown scores to Issac Bruce and hit Trung Candidate for a couple of big gains as the Greatest Show On Turf demonstrated how hard it is to defend their offense.

The turning point in the game came on the 82 Redskins opening drive of the second half inside the redzone. Cedric Jones stepped in front of a Theisman pass in the endzone and stopped a would be go ahead score.

The 01 Rams defense surprisingly were able to put good pressure on Theisman all second half by using some exotic blitzes that seemed to confuse the vaunted Hogs.

The defending champions 02 Rams will return to the Tecmo Super Bowl and defend their title against John Elway's 98 Broncos in TSB XII.

Kurt Warner was asked by a reporter if they would be the second team to repeat since the 85 Bears, " If it's God's will" replied a deeply faithed Warner.

Tecmo Super Bowl XII

98 Broncos 42
01 Rams 21

Behind the strength of Terrell Davis record rushing performance of 263 yards and some defense that would make the Orange Crush proud, the 98 Broncos captured their first ever TSB trophy with a commanding 42-21 victory over the defending TSB champion 01 Rams.

After jumping out to a 14-0 lead at halftime and surprising the world by shutting out the Greatest Show On Turf in the first half, the 98 Broncos offense never slowed down in the second half. They scored 28 second half points and scored on all but one possession during the Super Bowl.
Kurt Warner hit Issac Bruce for a 65 yard touchdown strike on the 01 Rams opening drive in the second half to tighten up the game 7-14, but that would be the closest Mike Martz would come to Shanahan's Broncos.

Terrell Davis was named TSB MVP. He rushed for 263 yards on 25 attempts and scored 5 touchdowns. All TSB records. John Elway managed to throw one touchdown pass to Shannon Sharpe and played an efficient game and not turning the ball over.

I can't believe Davis got 25 carries

Yeah, I was thinking that too. In the AFC championship, TD got the ball 20 times. So 45 carries in the last two games is a Tecmo Bowl record. He's one of the best backs in any rom. Still kinda weird how the computer decided to give him so many carries. In the next playoffs I am going to run, I've noticed that the 64 Browns do not give Jim Brown so many carries a game. He gets maybe like 7-10 carries a game in ROM 1....strange.
I already ran a couple of games in the next playoffs, and the Jim Brown did not get so many carries.

I'm running ROM 1 this next playoffs, it's the ROM with defensive parameters and with more older teams. The Broncos in rom I will be running next are from 77. So them repeating does not look good. Juggernaut 85 Bears is the team to beat on that rom. I'd say the 01 Rams are the team to beat in ROM 2 (the one I just ran).
I'm gonna compile some stats soon for all the games played and the individual stats as well for some fun.

And mr rbi...I did not make these roms.

XIII Playoffs Wild Card

58 Colts 26
64 Browns 14

The Colts defense played old school 50's style smash mouth defense and shut down Jim Brown and the 64 Browns offense.

Johny Unitas did not have his normal efficient day, but he did manage to make some key throws for big plays. Unitas connected with Berry to ice the game 21-7 in the third quarter.

XIII Playoffs Wild Card NFC

85 Bears 35
80 Falcons 0

The 85 Bears defense played lights out defense as they shutout the 80 Falcons. Mike Singletary, Richard Dent and Steve McMichael combined for 13 sacks and 3 forced fumbles, one of which returned for a touch down by Richard Dent.

Walter Payton left the game in the second quarter due to injury. His status for the next game is unknown at this time.

Dennis Mckinnon was the star on offense. He caught 5 passes for 101 yards and three touchdowns.

XIII Playoffs Wild Card NFC

73 Vikings 7
66 Packers 6

Offense wins games, defense wins championships, and special teams can ruin everything.

Bart Starr hit Carrol Dale with 17 seconds remaining in what seemed like a game tying touchdown.
However, with a wind chill of -6 at at frigid Lambeau Field and a combined 4 field goals missed during the game, the extra point seemed far from a sure thing.

Don Chandler slipped on the extra point attempt and was unable to lift the ball in the air properly as Alan Page blocked the extra point.

Alan Page had a monster day stuffing the run and terrorizing Bart Starr for 7 sacks and another 5 hurries.
Bart Starr threw two crucial picks in Vikings territory. The Purple People Eaters showed the Tecmo world that their defense deserves to be recognized with some of the best.

Bud Grant refused to have heaters on the sidelines during the game. "We don't have them at home at Metropolitan Stadium, so there is no reason to do it on the road in arctic temperatures."

Vince Lombardi yelled at reporters saying that "winning is everything" and that his team is a bunch of despicable losers.

58 Colts 7

The 75 Steelers had an easy time with the 58 Colts as they cruised to a 23-7 win.

Lynn Swann caught two touchdown passes and Frenchy Fuqua filled in superbly for an injured Franco Harris.
