GDavis had Jorge Bell in the leadoff spot last year.

Bell's numbers were impressive coming from the leadoff spot. .576 with 12 jacks and was top 3 in runs.

The leadoff spot should go to somebody who can hit for average, has some power and get on base to set the table for the top of the lineup. Speed is over rated in my book for the lead off role.

TBG, I just caused chaos to your algorithms...

Raines was a good call in my book. He's usually productive.

and so you contradict yourself.

did i not say Raines was somewhat of a conundrum?  my algorithm has him ranked in the top 30, yet i can see him taken as early as the second round.

my algorithms don't always reflect how the players are drafted, they are used to compare players to eachother.

Yet the Milwaukee Brewers will NOT give up on Rickie "I'm the worst leadoff man ever" Weeks.  The only person on that team worse suited for #1 than Weeks is Prince Fielder in my opinion.  Corey Hart was an animal at #1 a couple years back, and while you might be "wasting" some power there, like Tim Raines he's not an overpowering guy anyways so who cares?

Sorry for the local baseball mismanagement rant...  Back to RBI.

I think guys like Raines and Burks are usually overvalued for a very simple and obvious X factor that neither of you have touched on yet.

They are easily the most fun guys to play with in RBI, so people think more highly of them than their pure numbers would justify.

At least, that's how I feel.  I love that you can blast some good HRs with them, but even if you don't get a jack you can beat out a lot of infield throws and get really aggressive on the base paths.  They're just fun.

anyone ever notice that if you drop a deuce on someones windshield in sub-freezing temperatures, its pretty damn hard to get off once it freezes.

Fielder has put up OBP of .395 and .372 the past two years --- that's prime lead off stuff. . . . . he's the best hitter on the team and would get the most AB's if hitting leadoff.

Not that I'd hit him there, but there is the school of thought that you put your best hitter 1st and let him get more ABs. . . . .

Cory Hart looks to be about the worst option for Lead Off other than Bill Hall.

Re-Peat, are you really Dusty Baker?

Oh, Raines is fkn awesome and I was trying to think of who I wanted more --- Raines or Gibson.  It didn't make a difference, but I chose Gibson. . . . more power. . .  .power is king.

Prince isn't a bad option because he's got a weak bat, he's a bad option because he's got the most power on the team and you need to have some baserunners for him to drive in.

He didn't look that great in 2008, but he was doing damn well in the leadoff slot back in 07.

I couldn't say why (because his OBP really is decent) but I feel like everytime I watch a Brewers game Weeks is striking out all the damn time, and that drives me nuts.

You were very grey area'ish about him...yes and no?

I said it was a good call taken Raines that early. It's not going to hurt taking Raines 15th overall if you look at the offensive stats for the top 15 in whatever category you wanna choose.

Our high level scouts have him in the top 15 for Fantasy Style, and #1 for regular play...if we did a draft for regular play, I'd take him #1.

So when does Beefy's time run up?  What happens when it does?

At 2pm it will have been 24 hours with no word whatsoever, I think that's a decent deadline to make his picks for him.

I think Beef has always been an upstanding member and there was never any kind of time limit discussed with the exception of "no more than two rounds per day", so, he should get as long as he wants, worst case scenario he'll be on tonight.

That said, I'll be gone till the evening, so I'll email Re-Peat my proxies (I don't have Darky's email).

You know my email address?

I'll also add that in past drafts, weekends didn't count toward one's allotted time.  The drafts were often postponed on weekends.

Yes, weekends count and Nacho=overruled.

The Galactic Empire has made it's final decision. It does not take any effort to log on and make your pick during the weekend. Furthermore, I was not informed by Beef of a prolonged absence.

You may begin the draft, but it officially starts tomorrow at noon EST.  There is no time limit to draft your players. Be responsible and let's run this on autopilot. Do not force me to make haste decisions if you wait longer than 2 days. Proxy me your picks if you are going to be not available this weekend. No more than 2 rounds in one day will take place. - taken from the OP in the official draft thread.

Nacho

How am I overruled if you are supposed to wait two days before "making a decision"?  The weekend is two days.

i vote that we wait for beef.  for the sake of the integrity of the draft.  he has a crucial turnaround pick and i wouldn't want to override his plan.

i think alec should be commended for faithfully staying around all weekend waiting for beef, he's done a heck of a job being here in the off chance beef returns to make a pick at any time.  well done, sir.

the two day wait would be monday morning.

only thing I'd change is the thing about no more than 2 rounds in one day.

If everyone is on board, let's knock this shit out.

Accepted...if it can actually happen.

I've been on basically ever since my last pick except for when I was asleep. In 2 hours, I'll be starting a 5+ hour road trip.

Therefore I am willing to bet that beef posts his picks in roughly 2 hours and 10 minutes

Will you have internet access after said road trip?

Yes I will. I can give a one pick proxy in the meantime, but if he picks that it'll really depend on what he does and how stupid I'm feeling.
