Which pitcher hits the best?

nymets85

Big Apple RBI Champ

Interesting question.  NoRy almost hit a HR for me one time (curved foul).

I've noticed that Don Robinson was probably the best hitter. I've never hit one out with him, but he always hits it hard. He was a good hitting pitcher in real life--is it possible that the makers of the game carried this over?

Gantry

Probably not, though I don't think The Admiral has gotten too many attempts for me...

All evidence point to the pitchers being the same.  Unless the RBI Manager guys missed it, pitchers don't even have separate hitting abilities....

Great topic, but by all accounts and measures - all pitchers pretty much suck ass when it comes to hitting.  I've never seen a pitcher go deep (and I honestly doubt that it's possible), but have been relatively close on an occasion or two (aka - a shallow pop-up down the left field line, praying for a wallzie).

In my opinion, Bruce Hurst may be the most underrated hitting pitcher in the game - strong left-handed swing, with decent Spike Owen-like opposite field slaps.  The Rocket, on the other hand, may as well just take three strikes - as wearing out the opposing pitcher that much more is the only way Clemens can contribute at the plate.

I agree with nymets85.  I like Gooden's bat.

85_royals

I've seen Gooden put one off of the left field wall, so i'm sold on him, i haven't seen anything near that far from any other pitcher.  It must be the nose candy!  Do you think the RBI programmers took that into account?

Given all the "features" in RBI, I'm pretty sure the programmers did a bit of nose candy themselves.  Perhaps as a way to show respect...

As my retarded next door neighbor used to say..."Gooden is GOOD!"

Gwynn3k

gooden is good is like saying madden is fat...  overkill...  personally, i like blyleven for his bat as well as his arm.

Davey Boy Smith (HOU) hit the wall in the air for me.  So now I start him over Mike Scott just so he can get more at-bats to try for a pitcher homer.

I remember playing with the tigers and i was pitching king late in the game and he got a couple of ab's. He flew out ot left and grounded to short.  Both balls were sharply hit.  He usually gets good alluminum (wood) on the ball.

Gooden is solid but I definitely agree with VGP 100, Don Robinson hits the ball more consistently than any other pitcher, although I just did have two hits with Tudor today.

Hey 85Royals, why is your uniform so gay??

85_royals

it's vintage 1985--World Series Champs!!!

the same uniform the Royals were wearing when they won the world series (while Bert Blyleven was sittin' on his ass watching with the Rangers, probably thinkin' about his next year, 1986, when he'd become the first pitcher to give up 50+ homeruns in a season-simply stellar!)

if anything, it's vintage West Village Gay Pride Parade, but I do appreciate your enthusiasm

Given the many reports and emails about pitcher homers, I'm sure people have done it.  I think you're best chance for it is to use a righty-handed pitcher batting against a lefty pitcher.  They get WAY more pop that way...

I think this is evidence of my very first post...I was so much cooler back then

How do people have enough ABs with Don Robinson to know he's a good hitter.   I don't think there is any relief pithcer that I've had more than about 5 ABs with.
