Coincidence or Glitch???

Has anyone ever hit a homerun into the black box below the scoreboard in centerfield?  I have hit homeruns all around in and above it, but anytime the ball hits there, it comes back in.  

Or tell me this....is that black box supposed to be part of the fence or the shield to protect the batters view of the ball being released from the pitcher's hand?   I don't know and have always wondered?
