30 Team Rom

So I'm chatting with resident Tecmo hacker Jlstout (assisted in the 32 team ROM, as well as most of the Tecmo hacks we know of today) asking him a question regarding something on RBI.  He finds what I need, and we go on our merry ways...

A week or two later I get an email asking if I had a few ROMs to provide him for some testing, and he says that he has successfully disassembled the RBI ROM into source code.  I jokingly replied that he'd be my hero if he was able to add 20 teams to the ROM.

Then, yesterday, I get an email stating that he actually has it working and it needs some testing, and that he'll send me the ROM shortly.  After cleaning the shit out of my pants, I checked my email, and was happily presented with the attached 30 team ROM. We've been communicating a lot, and he gave me permission to toss it up here for some testing by the community.  Here's the details:

Original 96k ROM completely remastered to hold 30 teams.  The result is a ROM consisting of the 2P pause hack, the Long BA and ERA hacks, and the per pitcher batting hacks.  Please download and test away, posting any issues here in this thread.  

As soon as we deem it playable, he's gonna hook me up with the locations for everything and I'll write an updated editor for this (and provide those locations to Nightwulf, in the event he wants to create an online editor for it).

Here we go folks, quite possibly, the perfect video game...


**Final update
Team Select Left and Right is rewritten to run along only one line since up and down is fully working
1P mode now plays against all other teams instead of just 9
Newspaper names are doubled in length but in a smaller 8x16 font
Newspaper names are updated for longer lengths
Scoreboard still shows glitch (this will remain unless we find a way to get rid of it). Minor annoyance for the luxury of 30 teams!
Unseen: Redundant data has been removed and code snippets optimized for smaller size
Attract mode shows all 30 teams, complete with City and Team name
--Unless something is spotted as wrong, broken, or needs added then this should be the last update.

Agreed. Test Way, boys. Let's find any issues (he was doubting there'd be many) so we can get an editor written to edit this thing. I wonder if what helped me with inspired him to take a deeper look and that's why he did this. Very exciting.

Id be all over doing some classic season/all time great stuff with a reliable editor. Especially now that MVP 2005 modding is all but dead.

tecmoturd...if you write an editor for this incredible ROM, i don't care how much it confuses me, I WILL figure out how to use it.

Played a few innings via the emulator and keyboard (if I lost my NES USB controller I'm gonna be PISSED) and it looks great.  The CF scoreboard looks like the team abbreviation is still off for the first character.  I couldn't hit a homer to center so I purposely made a throwing error to center to catch the very bottom, see attached.  Between innings when they display the scoreboard the abbreviations look fine. 

Outside of that no issues.

Note the screenshot above should be SF vs Se so it is only the first character.  The screenshot shows a line I can't see while playing so it's more obvious. 

Hopefully nightwulf and tecmoturd will both find the time to get this implemented...

looks good.  the in-game scoreboard (while the ball is in play) does show weird tiles in the team names.  between innings looks fine.

i loved the mvp05 shit, but being unable to play over the internet, it really died for me after i won the world series with three different teams.

awesome.  if you can hook up with that achildprodigy kid (i think he's in japan, or at least is japanese) you will makefor a huge force in rbi mods/hacks.

he's the guy that did the stadium edits or wrigley, yankee stadium and fenway.
