Welcome Verlair, quality first post...  Just to make sure, you think Pena is the actual worst player in the game or he's the worst because of his (somewhat) lofty status?

Welcome Verlair.  Obviously you have had a bad experience with Tony Pena.  My advice is to let him take control and just enjoy the ride.  Your opinion of him will change greatly.

Show Tony some respect!

I just wiped my ass then smelled the toilet paper.  What's wrong with me?

the dude either has some high float or a mess between the cheeks.

Sperling

My list:

1.) Glenn Davis - terrible clean-up hitter
2.) Kirby Puckett - sandwiched between 2 solid hitters
3.) Larry Herndon - I believe I've seen him hit 1 HR
4.) Denny Walling - it's impressive to be a bad lefty
5.) Benito Santiago - he just sucks

Gantry

Sperling may be out of the game for awhile, but he still retains that RBI sharpness...

BDawk

I don't know how Herndon can be overrated. Nobody thinks he's good, do they?

Gantry

Depends on the context - for this thread, it originally started for the most overrated guys based on their display numbers.  Herndon actually has good "stats" - .324 average and 9 dingers - yet he's easily the worst hitter on the Tigers...

BeefMaster

I like Pena - I think that he's underrated, if anything, especially given that weak lineup.  I've had good luck with him (although I use St. Louis more than any other team, so he gets lots of chances).
"Nobody in football should be called a genius. A genius is a guy like Norman Einstein." - Joe Theismann

Gantry

I used to hate Pena for a long while there.  I'd often take him out quite a bit for Lindeman and keep Ford in at the 7 spot, especially if there was a lefty-hit situation in his first AB.  I hardly ever use that strategy now, though I'm still not a huge fan of Jalapena...

JoeDirt

How can Nolan be on anybody's list?   'Cause you know, he's pretty fkn good and all.

broiler

seems he does give up the longball more frequently than other fkn good pitchers

JoeDirt

This is almost as insane as Dayley being on somebody's bottom 5.

Huh?  Dayley is a fkn abortion.  I hate him.

I now wipe my ass after every time I take a piss

JoeDirt

Well, for the nip the corner and bust inside every once in awhile, Dayley is a pretty good P.  I suppose my style of play favors L pitchers in a similar manner the Straight Pitch Crew prefers L hitters.

Because overrated in that context likely means that some folks who think he's decent but not great.  A lot of people refer to him as the #1 pitcher and if you think Nolan isn't in that category, then I can see the overrated tag...

capt_taco

Overrated:

1. Matt Nokes - Never does SHIT despite his 32 home runs. Also runs the bases like a retarded kid after a fifth of Captain Morgan.
2. Lou Whitaker - Never does SHIT, period. I've hardly even hit the ball outof the infield with this guy.
3. Harold Baines - If one of my kids ever hit like this, I'd make him pack up his shit and find a foster home.
4. Tom Brunansky - He looks like he should hit home runs, but instead, he likes hitting choppers to the third baseman.
5. Jimmy Key - gives up home runs about 5 times more often than any other pitcher I have ever used, for NO GODDAMN REASON.
5A. Glenn Davis - Don't let his stats fool you, Pendleton will hit more homers than him.

Underrated:

1. Harry bleeping Spilman. The guy is an animal.
2. Alan Ashby, For some reason, he always comes up with some clutch dinger out of nowhere after going 0-for-4, and a bad 0-for-4 at that.
3. Ray Knight. I leave him in because the Mets don't have enough pinch-hitters after Backman and Santana. And he mashes the ball a lot.
4. Candy Maldonado. For a guy with 20 HRS, he crushes the ball.
5. Bill Madlock. Always good for one random ass-kicking hit.

Underated

1. Bill Madlock  ( My hero,  sick in the 5 spot)
2. DeCinces  ( a beast before the killer J's)
3. T. Brookens (love to see him up in the 8th spot, rediculous)
4. H. Spillman  ( pinch hit master)
5. D. Schofield ( what else can I say)

Overrated

1. J. Clark  ( Invisible Power or maybe it's really not there)
2. Paul Molitor ( has the power of a 5 year old)
3. Boggs ( sucks asssssssssssssssssss)
4. Kevin Bass ( Lefty reject)
5. Kirby Puckett ( I have moments with him, very bad moments)

JoeDirt

I'm really surprised by a few of the recent choices.  Capt, do you play straight pitch or anything goes (sorry fkn mclane, I'm not even acknowledging slurve and I don't know why)?

If you play AG, I have a really hard time believing Key sucks for you...but your selection of R batters as underrated indicate that you do play AG...

And pool, I know you play straight...but even so, Jack Clark overrated?  (Ryno)Hoggwash.

Shooty

I concur with Jack Clark being overrrated.  I've ben playing with St Louis alot and I hit way more homers with Pena than I do with Clark.  Clark seems to ground out or hit alot of catchable fly balls.  He pisses me off.  I would probably rank him as my #1 overrated guy as well.

ericdavisfan

I'm on board with Capt_Taco for #1 and 2.  I started subbing Nokes out, because he never does anythiing.  I think Sperling said it best "it's an impressive thing to be a bad lefty."

1)  Matt Nokes - surprisingly weak given the expected power stats and a HUGE letdown after the AT, Gibson, Evans punch to start the game
2) Kirby Puckett - Big stats, big gut, little results
3) Glenn Davis - GDavis quality posts must be inversely related to GDavis Home Runs.
4) Pat Sheridan - I know that I'll take some heat for this, but Madlock is clutch through the whole game.  I usually only get one good AB from Pat.
5) Brian Downing - I only add him because I mainly play with CA.  I know that it's impossible based on the simplicity of the game, but Downing is so streaky for me.  It's feast or famine with him...and I get a whole lot more famine.

Dishonorable Mention - Lou Whitaker.  He rarely does anything for me, but I've always been a big fan of his and didn't have the heart to put him in my overrated list.

BDawk

So many people like Madlock. I say he's overrated. He;s my number two sub on that team at best...maybe three
