Do you guys vote for covers or create labels/boxes for each release like Tecmo Bowl does? I'm looking to produce a small run reproduction cartridges with boxes and was wondering who should be on the cart/label?

EDIT: This is just a mockup of how one could look like. Turd has a post a few replies down with an official looking box art.

Turd

Thunder stealer! This was going to be my big surprise with this years rom. I have a template that people can actually print out. I used trout as my cover guy too, but I didn't donthe catcher or sliding guy. :)

VEGAS

Sweet Jesus, this is a beautiful thing. Please let me know when you produce the carts as I'll happily buy 1 or 2.

I hate the Angels but trout deserves the box/game cover. His 2012 season was epic! Better use a picture of him from 2012 though, because he came into spring training at 245 (more than 30 lbs over his weight at the start of last season) so a current pic might not fit on the box.
And BOOM goes the Dynamite!

Turd

P.S. Jaker, I didn't see your comment, but my plan was to have people vote on the cover...I"m pretty damn sure I used the same swinging pic of Trout that you did too.

You're going to do a production run with my ROM? Making a profit off of it?

fathedX

That box art is fantastic, but you knew that already.  Good work!

If it's ok with you I'd like to make 5-15 carts based on demand (using this upcoming rom). Not much of a profit, pretty much cover costs and to continue my hobby.

Turd

Shoot me an email/PM offline.  We can chat more...some of what you're talking about has already been discussed or in the works.

P.S. I've attached my box art for the 2013 ROM that I did last year when I started rating the post-season ROM...

Shooty

So you're making a 2013 cart with box and going to sell it?

Count me in.

jaker3

Wow,

I just made my graphic as a mock up of how one could look. Looks like you really put some time and effort yours   :) I like it a lot! Sure I'll shoot you a PM

I want to make sweet love to that box. Nice work, Turd. How's the Rom coming along. Need any more help with lineups/pitchers? I have no knowledge on writing roms, but if I can help with the non-technical side I happy to assist in anyway I can.
And BOOM goes the Dynamite!

Turd

Well, I have a nice easy way to create a base ROM, but I'm holding off because I feel like putting out a ROM before the rosters are solidified would be a difficult task if I want to be accurate.

The areas I'll need help with are:

Glaring errors in ratings
Getting accurate lineups (I'll use MLB Depth charts for any team that doesn't have a "sponsor" here on the boards)
Play-testing
Ground-ball hack - I have a working hack, but last year's ROM I tried to apply it to anyone with low HR but high AVG.  This year I might be a little more conservative and leave it to the studs or clear-cut low power/high avg. guys (Mauer, for instance).  So, some help with a set of guys who might benefit from that without giving it to everyone...RBI is about studs and duds, right?

If we feel like we can produce a pretty accurate ROM lineup-wise before the season starts, I'd be happy to continue setting that up and rating...otherwise, I'll probably wait until after the season starts...

Here's what the back of the box says:

No other baseball game captures
the magic of nostalgia like R.B.I.
Baseball.
Every one of the thirty teams
in R.B.I. Baseball contains rosters
and player stats based on the 2012
season.
So when your lineup includes such superstars as
Ryan Braun or Josh Hamilton, you're getting their
actual running speed and batting power.
And when ace pitchers like Justin Verlander or
Clayton Kershaw wind up, they are pitching with
their individual style, speed, and stamina.
Like real baseball, these skills and stats affect
the outcome of every play.  Like a real manager,
you'll need to make good use of this vital information
- and wise strategy decisions - if you want a winning
record.
R.B.I. Baseball is so intensely realistic, we've added
amusing animation and a touch of humor to keep the
action light-hearted and fun.
You can play against the computer in a 29 game season.
Or compete against a friend in your own best-of-seven
series.
Stop playing with no-names and step up to the plate with
real superstars in R.B.I. Baseball.

We're debating on putting together a setup to provide boxed/labelled copies of the 2013 ROM for people who don't want to go through their own manual process of getting a repro made.  If we even venture down that path, we'd like to know if it's a waste of time or not...so, some questions:

1.) Would you be interested? We'd like to know how many copies would be required
2.) We're looking at about $50-55 shipped.  This covers getting the ROM burned, shipping, high quality label/box, etc.

The ROM would be a base 30-team ROM with all the basic hacks, and a full stat-roster will be posted.  I'm thinking that if someone wanted to make minor tweaks to a ROM (increase their favorite player's stats or something) we could accomodate that, but we'd have to keep this on the small scale so we're not spending time making a completely new ROM.

The ROM would still be made available as a free download on the forum, this would strictly be a service for people who want a cart but don't have donor carts or don't want to go through the process of handling that on their own.

P.S. Noone is using this to fund their kid's college or anything, it's mostly to cover time and supply expenses.

Any interest?

I was one of the 10 that bought the arcade version in a cartridge, and would like at least 1 of these if not another to give as a gift.

Would this be juiced when playing the computer so its a challenge to win?

Turd

Again, that's an easy one because we could just generate two ROMs and let people pick...

I've heard you and one or two others say they'd be interested...

TbT

Have you guys posted this at tecmobowl.org?

I could post something on my site advertising it to try and strum up any additional interest.

Let's wait a little bit. I need to get the ROM finished first...then we'll talk about how to do it...

Turd

one more division to go and then I'll post the lineups...

Alright.  Will there be a document out with all the player ratings?  Knowing is half the battle.
