Or just get rid of the MMA board and make that the fake Anything Goes board.

Probably should merge MMA, fantasy and AG into one mega-board

GDavis

Just protect AG.  Noobies all start in the RBI board anyway

It may be possible to hide AG/FYG from spiders while leaving everything else open using the "search engine friendly URLs" or one of the similar mods. I don't think the built-in option does what we want, but I'd have to play with it to find out. If we can get different boards into different "directories" in the URL we could hide what we need to with a robots.txt rule (most seem to obey).

It should also be trivial to make AG/FYG inaccessible to guests.

GDavis

Trivial?  Gantry said it was hard.

Isn't that be both trivial and hard?

That's the preferred option, I don't think hiding stuff from guests is the best in the long term.  If you can find a suitable "search engine friendly URLs" mod that doesn't break all the existing URLs then I'm all for it.

Now that I think about it, the only way a "search engine friendly URLs" mod would do what we want it would have to break all the existing links.  Because if the existing links work, then the search engines will pick them up.   So that isn't an option, unless I'm missing something obvious.

So that leaves us with making AG/Politics inaccessible to guests or staying off Google.

Mike D.

Try again.

I'm going start a new thread to help the post count goal.

If direct URLs to AG posts aren't known to search engines now, and the board uses friendly URLs going forward (with AG kept away from spiders), AG wouldn't be crawled and wouldn't appear in Google. The only loophole I can think of is non-friendly URLs in existing posts in other boards linking to AG, but I can't imagine that would be cause for alarm.

Gantry

As of right now, I'm fine with the way things are for now but if the masses want to open up AG via nightwulf's methods that's fine.  There's still chances that some stuff gets on google though, given nightwulf's explanation above.  Unless I heard differently I'm doing nothing.

JUNE HAS BEGUN - lets get 6500 posts going.
