Congrats Nomaaa.  Dee-Nee's new Sandwich King.

I saw that Shooty mentioned speed and I wish I had a bigger sample size for my FRBI metrics. I've mentioned before about "X" outs. Those are the outs where a player's lack of speed creates outs on the basepaths. That is, put outs from 1st to 3rd, 3rd to home on fly balls, getting hosed at 2B/3B on a double/triple attempt, and getting hosed down in a fielder's choice situation. Players between 118-124 generally make the most outs in these situations. They also won't stretch a single to a double and double to a triple since they are too slow to advance. They also won't be scoring from 1B to home on a gapper or a ball down the line. Players in the 136+ range will do that.

I will say that for the slower players from 118-124, they are too slow to advance from 1st to 3rd on a drilled ball against the LF wall. So they stay at second and generally won't advance from third base in some double situations if they are on second base. They are a liability on the basepaths and do create a lot of outs. I wish I had a special stat measuring where their slowness subtracts from their player rating or batting average. Players in the 126-134 range generally get hosed at third in those situations, btw.

Speed is always great and can make up for a lack of power if those players get on base and avoid outs and take those extra bases. However, the majority of speedsters aren't going to sniff .500 or even .450. So they aren't on base enough and don't get enough hits or score enough runs to overcome their lack of power (speedy guys with low power are usually found at the bottom of the order). Manufacturing runs happens, but when it doesn't and the other team is hitting homeruns, distance in the score happens fast. It's all a delicate balance with your lineup construction where those low power but speedy players have a defined role. It is tricky to squeeze every ounce of production out of them when considering where to put them in the lineup.

Beef, Sutton will do you good, but Big Daddy might be a problem unless he has a better year - it can happen. Nacho may have the best BP, but this game is so random, nothing is a sure thing. Garrelts does have the lowest career ERA for a RP, but McDowell is in the middle of the pack. I'm starting to think that say out of 9 strong outings for a RP or SP for instance, maybe that one outing where huge numbers were dropped on them shot up their ERA. That's why I like to go back and look at the individual game stats from the seasons to look at a pitcher's outing.

I have ran some simulated games, and I will say that GDavis can put up some big innings in bunches. Who knows though, I've come to realize, as I've mentioned before, that the FRBI league is much more random than I realized.

This year will be interesting. There are actually some good starting pitching staffs out there. Nolan Ryan had an eye opening year last year with his ERA and least HR's given up. I went back and looked at the historical stats, and he has given the fewest career wise. Back to this year, should be really interesting.

TRADE ANNOUNCEMENT

Ryno receives:
Jackson
Jones
Wilfong

Nacho receives:
Dawson
CDavis
Thompson

The bottom of my order is now garbage but I have a pretty formidable top of the lineup.

Ryno has all lefties in his batting order and pitching staff! You sure did get the better end of that deal! Dawson will make up for your bottom of the lineup unless he has a down year.

Darky

Actually, that trade seems really fair tbh. Reggie Jackson has a glitch because he never produces what his contact-power rating dictates. I believe he was traded twice in season IV! He's still very productive, but for a guy with the second most power, he for some reason doesn't ever register in the top 5 for homeruns.

Post Trade Lineup Update:

Copulators

1. Wilfong 2B
2. Jackson OF
3. Spilman 3B
4. Jones OF
5. Reynolds SS
6. Joyner 1B
7. Coleman OF
8. Ashby C

I know its a long shot, but I'm looking to deal Santana.  Not because he's terrible, but because he's left handed.

If you have 2 horrendous bench bats, send them my way for a less than horrible LH bench player and Santana.

Neil Diamond Division

Clearly the best division.   The Tom Jones division will be drinking a sad cocktail while listening to Love on the Rocks following the ass beating the Neil Diamond Division puts down.

TempoGL

The schedule is messed up.

How did people make schedules before?  I can't find any good website to do it and doing it by hand is a massive headache since there's an uneven number of games each week

Glad to help.  Wilfong gets 50 extra power points, right?

nomaaa

just gonna say it once b4 someone complains later

we should probably have a 17 game season where division rivals play 3 times (12) & 1 inter division game per team (5)

Congrats Nomaaa.  Dee-Nee's new Sandwich King.

ryno

That's a great idea, and I'm sure everyone would agree it makes sense.  However, it would be pretty tough on someone to make that schedule fit into a nice, neat weekly schedule where every team has one game per week.

I could see it working where you set it up as 3 game series with the inter league set during one week.

nomaaa

ill try to brain this up tomorrow. would be worth a shot & if it hasn't been done before, we can save it for later seasons if it works out

i think i've done this once before for a baseketball league in the mid 2000s
