I figured that fatigue just means they get taken out early, but i'd rather have less quality innings, then a pitcher that lasts longer but gets shelled.

If he's starting he's going at lest four innings. Scott will start tiring in the third and his sinkers aren't going to drop. Maybe.

I should do a pitch count to get an idea on the threshold. Fortunately, the arcade version has plenty of pitchers with sinker-drops compared to the NES version. I know in the NES version, Scott and Gooden and Saberhagen had their share of 2K innings.

Good call Beffy on taking Dan Driessen.  He's winding down his WIS career for me, and he's consistently overperformed throughout his career

ultimate7 figured it out at one point, and I believe CPU relief pitching strategy is dictated purely by the score and the inning - the actual stamina of the pitcher has nothing to do with it, as best I can remember.

It's correct. A starting pitcher will go a minimum of four innings no matter what.

GDavis

Oh no - you misunderstand me.  I find it hard to believe that ultimate7 figured something out.

The Rabbit Maranville pick is a crapshoot.  On paper he should be terrible.  705 power with a 36 contact rating.  But that's the rub.  I want him to hit like a pitcher (or worse).  With his 146 speed, the softer he hits, the more he should get on base.  As long as he keeps it on the ground, I'm expecting he should be OK.  Maybe even a couple inside the park homers potentially.  This is all just speculation.  Be interested to hear from Darky how he fared in sims.  Although he probably didn't get many at bats.

Maranville is also fast enough that the computer will have him steal - I think 146 is the cutoff for that.  If you can manage to get him on base, you might get a few extra bases that way as well.

144 is the number that the players will steal. I'll get back to this discussion later - bit busy at work and gotta update this thread.

What I meant is the threshold in the pitch count for the pitcher to fatigue and thus the sinkers no longer drop - my post there had nothing to do with substitutions. Ultimate did lay out the precise scenarios as to when a pitcher comes out and gets pinch hit for. I think he also articulated the 8th hole hitter and when they get substituted which is obviously in the 8th and 9th innings when the game is tied or if you are losing. The one thing that bothers me is when for example, you have a one run lead in either the top of the 5th or 8th and 9th, and the computer won't sub since it accounts for the event that you take the lead in the game of the bottom half of those innings and thus allowing the pitcher to keep pitching.

I'll wait until later or after the draft to reveal more about some things I noticed in my simulations. I didn't scout every player, just the players I had my eye on and some others out of curiosity due to the novelty of their ratings. One thing I'll reveal may be bit of a surprise.
