**Editing info from last years tourney/thread.

Tourney is for RBI Baseball(NES/1988) & and original Tecmo Bowl (NES 1989).
Tournament Date:  Saturday July 24th at DJs Dugout sports bar & grill in Omaha Nebraska.
See https://www.tecmobowlnes.com/ for details.  I need to update the site a bit, but a lot of the info is useful/current.

Tecmo Bowl @ noon, RBI Baseball @ 6PM.  Possibly moving those times up by 30 minutes earlier.
Each tourney features a 3 game opening round of group play.  Results are used to seed the brackets. Tecmo is single elimination, RBI becomes best of 3 in the final 4/championship.
Top 24 players from group play advance to elimination rounds.
Anyone losing in early elimination rounds plays in consolation brackets.  The format ensures every competitor plays in 6-7 games at minimum per tourney.
$25 per tourney or $35 for both; Military ID gets $10 off either price.

Cash prizes to the top 5 players & first place wins a trophy.  Also paying out small cash prizes to a few additional consolation game winners.

This tourney is for RBI Baseball(NES/1988) & and the original Tecmo Bowl (NES 1989).  In previous years the event has attracted players from 8 states & a province of Canada. With the early round consolation games all the way to the championship round, you end up facing players at your level in the last 2-3 games of this competition.  Important to note as even the inexperienced players have the opportunity to win their final 2-3 games and go out on a high note.  Same with the intermediate level players.

The event observes a few game play rules for each tourney.
RBI:  1 starting pitcher per game unless it goes into extra innings.
Tecmo Bowl: Offense may not gain yards when defense pick the same play.
a couple other game play rules are in place, but those are the primary stipulations.

Will definitely give the podcast a listen, great work per usual TbT.

Early May works way better with my schedule than previous years because it's not so close to our yearly wrestling trip.  I will be giving strong consideration to attending next year, who is with me?  If I went I'd obvious enter the RBI tourney, but not the Tecmo one.

We can turn it into a mini-fest if we can get 4-6 of us attending.

TbT

Good to hear Gantry.  Mike Beales had some concerns about not being able to make it next April with his job schedule, so I started looking at that early May day.  Its not being held on mothers day weekend either FYI.  Mike has been a warrior driving out here from Chicago 3 years in a row, with 3 final 4 runs so I definitely want him to be able to make it if possible.

As for not playing Tecmo Bowl, no worries if you want to sit that tourney out, or for a Tecmo Bowl player that wants to not enter RBI.  However pretty much everyone in the field is guaranteed 6-7 games of Tecmo or RBI...regardless of how they do.  3 games of group play to begin and some consolation games for those knocked out early in the elimination rounds.  For anyone considering skipping either tourney, you will get a full gaming experience of about 3 hours no matter your skill level if you give it a shot.  Honestly if you get knocked out early, you basically finish the event playing other guys that aren't very good in the consolation rounds.  That gives you a good opportunity to win a couple games late and finish on a high note.  Just sayin'.  6th place in Tecmo Bowl this year was just there to spectate and hadn't played in 20+ years.  We talked him into playing and he damn near walked out with $25, as he lost the 5th place game by 3 points.

I've got a new cash payout tweak for both tourneys.  Next year we're doing the standard payouts for 1st-4th & winner of 5th place game gets paid as well.  However I'm going to put a little bit of money on the line going to the players who win 7th place, 9th place game, and perhaps even the 11th place game.  Granted those lower placings might only be 10 bucks, but still an incentive to play on.

Seriously considering going to this. I think I'd fall into the Nostalgia/Guy Who Likes to Play category instead of highly competitive, but it sounds like fun.

Well, youre guaranteed a minimum of 6-7 games regardless of how you do.

My buddy nate is a competent RBI player, but will NEVER be confused with an elite player.  However at his absolute best hes pretty formidable and can hang in with the best.  He's basically a .500 player at this tourney, however he got in the right group this year, got hot hitting and pitching and went 3-0 winning his group and beat a routine final 4 player in that opening round.  He obtained a high seed, and got a super favorable draw in his first elimination game.  Next thing he knows hes in the final 8 and matched up with a really solid player(but not a world beater).  Nate lost in that round and went into the 5th place bracket.  Point being he had expectations of winning 1 or maybe 2 games in group play and things came together for him to have a really fun and exciting 2 hour run while notching one of the biggest wins of his RBI career.

Also we have a fairly large pool of interchangeable players that battle it out for 4th-10th place for example.  As long as your competent in the 3 phases of hitting/pitching/fielding you can win some games at this thing, and if things go your way a bit can make a run into the final 4, or at least battle out for 5th place...which at this tourney is not a bad way to end things.

The round of 8 in RBI is pretty epic.  1 game setting for our solid/good players to knock off the great players.

Is there any link to rules? Like team selection, pitching restrictions, how to handle glitches (ball thrown in stands glitch)...anything like that?

I'm sorry, I went to that website 10 times and never saw the menu at the top. Because I'm dumb.

So is the location Bigway Burger, or was that from last year and the site is still TBD?

Updates:
See initial post in this thread for links to website with all details, and facebook event page for reminders/updates.

Having talks with DJs Dugout in Omaha for hosting this event.  DJs has a chain of very popular sports bars in Omaha.
We have to hammer out a few final details with management.  We really just need some backing in terms of DJs helping to promote it via their facebook page to go along with my marketing of the event in Omaha.  With the proper support we can push attendance figures up near 30 players per tourney.  Considering we supply 15 consoles and TVs, we can still accommodate that crowd and not offset the speed of our format.

I mentioned this to a buddy of mine awhile ago, and he actually asked me about it unprompted when I saw him over the weekend, so I'm thinking there's a pretty decent chance he and I will make it this year. I don't expect to be competitive, but I'm curious just how noncompetitive I actually am.
