That was an excellent and clean game where pitching played the leading role. I analysed the game a bit and the difference was that the High Fives had one more double play against them along with two strikeouts - both strikeouts came in the 8th when Sabes came in nasty working the outside black. X outs were both at 1 for both teams and the errors were of no impact. Oh, I forgot to mention that the High Fives left a lot more players stranded in scoring position - McGwire, Canseco, and Dawson were guilty of that and didn't earn their huge paychecks.

Gooden pitched superbly (5R,9H, 2HR) for his 4. Meanwhile Tudor was pitching admirably until he gave up 7 runs in the 4th - Donnie Baseball came off the bench for a pinch hit bomb to ignite the rally. The High Fives bullpen pretty much limited the Shooties: 3 runs and 4 hits in 4 relief innings. However, after Walters got chased out before recording an out in the 8th, Saberhagen and Vida Blue shut the door hard on the HF's comeback. McGwire up with one out and Canseco on first - double play and game over.

Laudner-JClark-Reynolds (5-6-7 in the order) combined for a 2/15! The curse of Jack Clark continues!

No multiple HRs by any player and nobody had a really huge day. D.Johnson did go 5-5, but had no rbi's or jacks.

As far as the stream, it was excellent! I really liked the music in the background.

Huge win for Shooty since every game is like a playoff game with only the divisional winners advancing to the final. The difference was the bottom of the lineup and Cardinals rule paid the price for drafting a weak half of the bottom of the order after he unloaded on OF's in his first three picks.

nomaaa posted the link in the opening post to his stream channel on Twitch. It's awesome because he streams the entire set of games uninterrupted. I subscribed and will get notifications when he goes live for week 2. So here is the spoiler for my game below...

The Empire and Hollywood Stars was a back-and-forth game with a few lead changes. Both bullpens were spectacular and the starting pitching didn't have their best days, but it could have been worse.

The difference in the game was Hollywood's inability to get the big hit with runners in scoring position down the stretch. Jorge Bell stranded runners on 2nd and 3rd with two outs in the top of the sixth with the game tied 18-18. In the top of the 8th, Hollywood (down 18-20) had a 2nd and 3rd situation with 1 out and Jim Rice up - FC that got the runner out at home. Then Jorge Bell hit a comebacker to end the inning - Drysdale BEARED DOWN! And then in the 9th, with the Empire up 21-19 and Hollywood runners at 2nd and 3rd, closer Hubbel got Hornsby to fly out at the wall to end the game. A hit in any of those situations could have altered the game dramatically. The Empire's bullpen showed up and dropped nasty stuff.

Thankfully my old hitting coach, Darrell Evans, was gentle with me. He was 4-6, but no homeruns or RBIs. Jim Rice went 4-6 with 3 HRs and 7 RBI's, but didn't come through in the crucial 8th. Another difference in the game was the pitching spot in the batting order - Fighton's guys went 0-3 while my pitchers went 2-3 which led to production in the runs category. Figthon's bench went 3-4 - limited impact - Leonard hit a 1-run bomb. The Empire's bench went 3-3 which led to two crucial runs.

Gaetti was my star at the plate - 4-6, 2 HR, 6 rbi. Murphy and Scholfield dropped 2 HR with 4 RBIs each. Drysdale was tough after a shaky 5th, Tiant slammed the door in the 8th, and Hubbel only gave up 1 run with a 3-run lead in the 9th to close out the game despite making it interesting. Bonds and Doran both struggled - combined 1-9, but Bonds did hit a bomb to capture the lead. In any case, The Empire showed grit in crunch time - great start!

Great game between the Old Stylers and the Beefmasters.  Monster first inning and then going toe to tow for the rest of the game.

Marichal went 5 scoreless in his first 5 and only gave up 9 hits in 7 innings + 4 runs. His location was on the corner all game. Definitely one of the better gems in FRBI history.

I have noticed a pattern in the tons of simulated games and the games from week and the tournament and that is the majority of scoring happens in the first 4-5 innings and then things slow down hard.

And what's up with HoJo! Holy shit did he have a career day to lead the Blue Ribbons. Ryno has some tough outs in his lineup with players hitting above their ratings. Mantle, Ruth, arcade version of Will Clark, and Marris. Those guys will all hit over .700 or damn close to it. Mike Scott also came out and deal'd against Tropicana - no easy task. I was a bit surprised that the Blue Ribbons did that to Tempo's team. I think Ryno's team will be hot or cold this season - if Hojo and the non-lethal guys don't hit, and if one of his stars has an off day, the production can disappear.

Great game between the Old Stylers and the Beefmasters.  Monster first inning and then going toe to tow for the rest of the game.

Beef led 13-12 after 3 innings, and then Nacho outscored Beef 6-5 for the rest of the way. Beef's closer (Jenkins) blew a 2-run lead and had 2 outs with a one read lead before the Old Stylers strung together 4 straight hits. The game winning hit, by Campeners, came on a hit and run with Lopes at first and Foxx on 3rd.

Nacho's team and Beef's team was a show of contrasting styles: Speed vs pure power. The Old Stylers hit 3 triples and 2/3 times the runner scored before the inning was retired without further production. The fourth triple that showed up on the RBI scoresheet came on an error.

Both SP2's were solid in relief as well as both RP's. Both closers had so-so outings. Surprisingly, Phil Niekro had zero K's. Beef had one X out when Armas was hosed at 2B due to his 118 speed and GDavis hit into a DP - another X out. All those little differences mentioned helped propel Nacho's team. Both benches were miserable and even more miserable for Beef since he had GDavis and DwEvans coming in with about 950 pop after the power boost. Another big difference that I forgot to mention was that Niekro did have a RBI double and a run scored - that was the only production in the runs department by all pitchers.

Player of the game at the plate: F.Robinsion: 4/6 with 3 HR and 6 rbi.
Brooken went 6-6 but only had 1 rbi and zero HR - he did score 4 times. Torre left TONS of ducks on the pond.

BeefMaster

Man... nine runs in the top of the first, and then they just quit scoring, then Nacho goes and wins the game on four well-placed dribblers.

You can do that when you've got a bunch of guys with 140+ speed!
