Yeah, what was with that.  I've never seen that, but I don't watch alot of CPU vs CPU games either.

Nacho

There was also a weird outfield error that I don't know if I've ever seen before. Someone (Sandberg?) hit a pop fly to the left fielder, he camped under it, and it basically went over his head. No bop, just missed a fly ball that he was camped under. Does that happen often?

It happens sometimes. For a FRBI season, it will happen 1 time. It's an odd glitch and it always happen in the LF corner area. I see it here and there in my simulation scout games, but it is very uncommon. I'd say I see it once every 50 games.

Let's drop a routine fly ball with two outs and give up nine runs in the bottom of the 8th.

I feel like a much less angry version of Baines

Congrats Nomaaa.  Dee-Nee's new Sandwich King.

Shooty

Davey Johnson has had a weird start for a 975 power guy.  1 HR, and like 8 singles.

fightonusc

I'm starting to think my pitching staff doesn't have The Look.

there are also folks complaining about the lack of Bobby Grich, Dwight Evans, and Willie Randolph.

ryno

What the fuck Chuck?  Ye Old Stylers are too much of a pussy for a do-over.

Hope to see you the WS

Nomaaa can you sim a game with vernando pitching?  That was the first time he pitched in league or the tourney.  If he is gonna do that every time there is something seriously wrong

Nacho

Have we seen that glitch happen before?

I think Gary Carter had 4 home runs that game.

nomaaa

we should probably just redo all of week 2 just to be sure

I think Gary Carter had 4 home runs that game.

He had 3 and went 5/7 with 6 rbi. Dcincs(6/7 5rbi/5R) and EDavis (7/8 7rbi/7R) also had 3 bombs. EDavis hit for the cycle btw. Your team out-homered Hollywood 14-10! Obviously that was a huge difference. Errors favored you as well as the X outs - you had 3 and Fighton had 4 (two of which were DPs).

The score was 21-20 in the Shooties favor at the beginning of the top of the 8th. Shooty outscored Figthon 12-4 in the last two innings and that was where the game was won and lost - Hollywood's bullpen was miserable while Saberhgn finished up the game in his two relief innings by allowing 1 in the 8th and 3 in the 9th.

Fighton had Brnsky, J.Rice, and Horner each dropped two bombls. Horner was 6-6 with 6 RBI. DaEvans didn't impress with 3 hits in 7 at-bats and only 1 RBI coming off a solo shot. DaEvans continues to hit below his ratings from a historical perspective.

And lots of errors that led to unearned runs and longer innings. 6 total. Fighton had 4 of them. I'll be back throughout the day to recap the games.

Old Stylers/Blue Ribbons

A good tight game that ended up with a rare glitch giving Nacho the edge in the 9th of all innings!

The Blue Ribbons were leading 12-10 entering the 8th before N.Ryan gave up 4 runs and 2HR (Aaron & Fox) which turned the lead 13-12 in Nacho's favor. Cy Young pitched a scoreless 8th out of the pen to preserve the lead.

And then the anomalous 9th.

RJones came in to ph for Heath and he hit a 2B. Puckett then came in to K for his ph at-bat. Meanwhile, with the consecutive substitutions, N.Ryan wasn't pulled which was weird since Ryno was down 1 in the ninth which usually means the closer comes in in that situation when behind. So after Pucket's K, in came Vlnzla with R.Jones at 2B ... and then came 8 straight BBs before Pucket was the one who finally swung at the way inside pitch and that resulted in a DP.

So Sutton came in to protect a 19-12 lead. After 2 quick outs (Joyner & Vlnza), the Blue Ribbons strung together 4 straight hits and 4 runs (including a Maris 2-run shot) to reduce the deficit 16-19. Sutton, unbothered by the late rally, got Gedman to line out to end the game. It's hard to say the what ifs and only ifs, because we don't know if Vlnza would have had a bad inning without those walks and instead giving up hit after hit. The FRBI gods punished Ryno for some reason and blessed Nacho! haha!

I thought Young's scoreless inning was crucial. A game like that was a good pitching game in this league ... for the most part. Aaron (2-5) had 4 RBI and Cey(4-5, 3RBI) both hit dingers. Heath was productive from the 8-hole (3-4, 2 RBI, 2R, 2HR). The only production from the 9-hole for both teams came from R.Jones - he had the only hit of all the combined pitchers/pinch hitters an the only RBI and Run - Ryno had zero for zero everywhere from the 9-hole.

For Ryno, HoJo continued his torrid hitting by going 5-6, with 2 2B, 1 3B, and 2RBI with 3 runs scored. Ruth went 5-6 with 6 RBI and 2HR. Mantle surprisingly struggled with only 2 hits in 6 at-bats. Wil

Both M.Scott and P.Niekro had superb outings in long relief.

The Empire vs Tropicana

Down 23-18 in the bottom of the 8th, a 9-run rally propelled the Empire to a nail-biting 27-26 win.

The Empire, losing 23-21, scored 6 runs with two outs to make it 27-23. In the 9th, Hubbel held off a furious push by Tropicana to seal the win. Down 26-27, Tropicana had runners on second and third with 2 out with ph hitter Teufel up to bat. Hubbel jammed him to get a lazy popup to the SS as Darth Vader was seen from the press box confidently clinching his fist.

Drysdale pitched the only scoreless inning of the game in the 8th when he retired the side in relief.

Gaetti went 6-7 with 2HR, 6RBI and 6 runs to lead the way for the Empire. Lemon, who didn't start in week 1, made a strong case for a starting job by going 5-7 with 5 runs from the leadoff spot - Vader commented and said C.Davis and Lemon will platoon. B.Bonds also swung a big bat with a 5-6 performance and 2 HRs with 4 RBI from the 7-hole.

For Tropicana, Trammel went 6-7 with 2 HR, 4RBI, and 5 runs. Foster, Wilson, and Stwbry all had 5 hits. An error in the 6th by Tropican's LF with two outs on a lazy fly ball led to 3 Empire runs! And in a cruel twist, the game came down to Tefuel, who came in to pinch hit with runners at second and third with two outs down by one. He hit a popup to the SS to end the game. Recall that Tempo bypassed quality pinch hitters with more power to strategically weaken the Empire's 2B pick during the latter rounds of the draft. Tempo didn't think there would be a consequence since pinch hitters don't come up too often. Well, the game came down to Tefuel and his 810 + boost power. Tempo could have had a player with 850+ power + boost instead at that spot! The Force was with the Empire.

UHF vs Beefy Masters

A good game until UHF exploded for 9 runs in the 8th which turned out to be enough behind a masterful 1-2-3 9th by Gullet with a 6 run lead.

UHF jumped out to a 8-0 lead after the top half of the 3rd, and then the Beefies cut into the lead until their 7-run 5th, giving them a 15-10 lead. Ultimate then outscored Beef Master 15-4 between the 6th inning and the 9th. Leading 15-13 in the top of the 8th, Bruce Sutter came in and just didn't have it. Ultimate was boosted by his pinch hitters in DwMphy and B.Willms -they combined to go for 3-3, 1HR, 3R, and 3RBI in the top of the 8th. After the carnage, Ultimate led 23-15.

Beef's Beefy Masters showed some grit and scored 4 runns off RP Gullet to cut the led, 22-19, but UHF scored 3 insurance runs to make it 25-19 and that turned out to be more than enough as the Beefies went 1-2-3 in the ninth (Brookn/Torre/JRbnsn).

Beef's team had 4 X outs: Brnsky got nailed trying to stretch a single to a double, Armas was gunned out at home from the RF corner in foul territory, one DP, and a 1st to 3rd situation where Brookn got nailed going from first to third off a single against the LF wall.

Heroes for UHF: Grich! Grich had 2HR, 6RBI, and 4 hits in 6 at-bats. Snider and Reggie Jackson each had 2 bombs. Cmpnla went 5-6 with 4RBI and a HR. Gehrig, Mathws, and K.Gibson combined to go for 5-19! Mathews and 930 power had a dismal 1-6 showing.

For Beef, Armas led the way by going 4/6, blasting 3 shots, tallying 9RBI, and scoring 4 runs. Beef's bench went 3-4 producing 3 runs and 1RBI off a GDavis blast. His pitchers produced with 2 runs and one RBI and 1H. The big disappointment was Adcock (975 power) only going 2-6 with 1 RBI. J.Rbnsn went 1-6 and he is better than that. At some point, Beef's team will explode.

Blueberry Kings vs High Fives

Not much of a game since the High Fives were in control with a big lead the entire game which ended in the 8th via the 15-run mercy rule.

Both Viola and Key struggled in their outings. Viola surrendered 14 runs in his 4 innings and Key got touched up for 9 runs in his three innings. Stu's team had two 8-run innings and after the second 8-run inning in the 6th, the score was 23-9. Nomaaa's Blueberry Kings couldn't get the lumber going against Koufax - Koufax went the entire 9 and had his good stuff.

Heroes for the High Fives: Baylor went 4-6 with 2HR and 5RBI and 4 runs. Laudner went 5-6 and scored 4 runs. Reynolds led all hitters with 6RBI off 3 hits and 1HR. Wilfng had a big day from the 8-hole with 4 hits a bomb, 2RBI and 3 runs scored - lot of games are won and lost by how much production comes from the 8 and 9 hole spots.

The Blueberry Kings struggled at the plate. Schmidt went 1-4 and only McCovy and EBanks has 3 hits each to lead the way. Only 2HR was hit by nomaaa's team. MelOtt also struggled with a 2-5 performance and no runs or rbi - he is a 900+ power hitter. Nomaaa's team also had 3 X outs, two of which happened at home plate.
