The Empire is set here and Darth Vader has said this will be the final roster change.

The Empire has released:
SP Tiant
2B Fuente
2B Lmbrdz

Acquired:
RP McCrmk
2B Doran (Arcade version)
C JDavis

Darth Vader's reasoning:
RP McCrmk, who had a 11.91 in the arcade season, appears to be legit from the 18 game simulations I ran. He had the best ERA in the Arcade season for pitchers with at least 10 innings pitched. I like Tiant a lot, but McCrmk is just too good to leave on the open market.

The arcade version of Doran (28/765/136) vs the NES version (18/765/136) gets on base more and is more consistent. Oddly enough, the higher contact of 28 is more of an advantage because of the way the ball is hit when you factor in how the power goes down after doing the contact calculations - basically more bleeders happen. Also, Fuente hits way too many poopups and shallow fly balls which can mean assist outs at home plate on a sac fly attempt. The NES version of Doran sucks, that simple. The 18 contact is a detriment in the sense of less bleeders and you need 144+ speed to be more of a weapon with a 18C and 765 power. Contact explained here:

I know this is an old thread, but according to my friend, there is an update to this formula that changes things dramatically. I won't read through the thread to see if nightwulf cleared it up, but this is news to me...basically it was previously thought that if bad contact was made then we simply subtract contact from power.

According to my friend, that's half right. But it's actually this:

Batting Power - (Contact * x)
where x is 0 to 6 depending on where contact occurs

So take a 900 power hitter with 10 contact. If you make the worst contact the multiplier is 6, and the new power number is 900-(10*6) or 840. Previously the thought was that it'd be 890. News, at least to me, as this makes contact more significant than once thought.

As far as JDavis (28/801/120) rejoining the Empire, well, he's an over-achiever and a clutch hitter. So he may not get many at-bats in a 18-game season as the 4th PH, but if he does, they will be huge at-bats deep in the game and Vader has full confidence in him. His work ethic is contagious as well. May the Force continue to bless the mighty Empire.

New lineup:
1. BBonds
2. Gaetti
3. Bench
4. DMurphy
5. TPerez
6. CDavis
7. Schfld
8. Doran

Bench
Lemon
Musial
Cedeno
JDavis

Pitching rotation (1&2 SP rotation)
SP Guidry
SP Drysdale
RP McCrmk
CP Hubbel

The PBRs won't sit still when of our ribbons isn't pulling his weight.   Granted Bert has struggled.  But he loves farts.   I also love farts—- they are never not funny.   Nolan Ryan on the other hand has had his goddamn brains beat in for 4 innings. Enough is enough.

PBR drops the Ryan Express for the Bedrock Special—- Steve Bedrosian.

Nando remains in the closer role

You just got an elite bullpen pitcher. For RPs, he is #2 all time in ERA from the FRBI Seaons not counting the season Fighton ran.

PBR drops Maury Wills.  Adds SS Bobby Doerr

Wills has wheels but the 705 power just won't play.

We will bat Doerr 7th.  Sandberg drops to 8th

Darky

The Empire releases 2B Bill Doran and acquires 2B Steve Lombardozzi
SP Guidry has been released and SP Nolan Ryan has been signed.

Ryan Express will get the start against UHF Ch.62. Lombardozzi will hit 8th.
Jody Davis will be the #2 PH off the bench, Musial to #3 and Cedeno to #4.

Game time looks good to go as planned. Pregame will cover the 3-0 starts of the PBR and Beefy Masters, analyse the recent signings, and have a closer look at the scoring machine that is Ultimate Chicago Channel 62. If there is time, we'll cover as many teams as we can and nutshell the storylines going on.

Trades will be eligible to happen after week 4 and that'll end after week 14.

The 3rd and 4th over all picks have been traded.   Chaos rules!!!!!

BeefMaster

Lombo is an incredibly shitty player to end up with in the starting lineup, but my thought is that he only bats two or three times a game (if he bats more, that means I'm scoring a lot of runs), to be replaced by guys from the league's best bench, and Bench gives me a 945 power guy to go with the 975s in the 3-4 spots.

I got tired of platooning he and Doran depending on the matchup and how they did in the scouting sims I ran. Basically, both of them were driving me crazy and I just couldn't handle facing the possibility of having a high .300's to low .400's hitter in the 8-hole. Lombo may give you 5-6 homeruns, but then his speed is a liability. Doran was just a guy who wasn't going to have many 2+ hits a game. I just can't handle those 3-5 at-bats before the 8-hole is pulled for a bench hitter. I need a guy who is going to give me at least .450 in the 8-hole. I took a big risk gaking HoJo and hoping he gives me a .450 plus some extra base hits, but he has shown he can in past seasons as an overachiever. Bench's numbers will come down, but he'll give you a solid year - he's steady for the most part. Oh yeah, Jackie Robinson is just a guy that I am attached to from the Arcade season and he packs a valuable punch for a 795 power guy and 12 contact - his 740 speed creates stuff. Yeah, basically I just wasn't feeling it with the group of guys I had in the sense of there was no connection with the players and the soul of the team. The team is good, but they've shown to just lollygag and decide not to get it done. Fuck that.  ;D

This league is something else. It has a totally different rhythm than the Arcade and NES FRBI leagues. Lots of hitting of course, but then, there is a bit more quality pitching as week 4 showed with all the low scoring games. And what's crazy is Candy Maldando's numbers - he's a 876 power guy, but he's putting up +920 type numbers.
