RBI Baseball question

So I've been playing RBI baseball on my fake NES console recently, as I've been able to rejoin my this group after my hiatus.  As I've been playing, just curious, any changes with your opinions of the teams?  Or of certain players?  I feel like the biggest thing with each team depends on their offense, their 3-5 in the order plus the reliability of their subs, especially their first at bat.  I have never played in a tournament but would like to do so.  Did dee née tourneys start with any pitches allowed, as long as they were "straight" pitches?  Knuckle balls, slow balls, just no pressing right or left on the controller?

iirc there is anything goes, straight pitch, and "slurve" which allows for curves as long as they're in the strike zone

not sure if there are official tournaments for each type, but it's definitely been done it at fests. i am absolutely atrocious at anything goes.

Our tourneys are straight pitch, but it's just a drinking game thing that me/lips/postie/sperling do.  Not an open tournament. 

The real ones are all anything goes though there may be rules about only using one starter.

The Chicago & Columbus Ohio tourneys were 2 starting pitcher per game with anything goes style of pitching. 

Our Omaha tourney is 1 starting pitcher per game, unless it goes into extra innings, then you can us the 2nd starter.
I also threw in a stipulation that if the game was tied in the bottom of the 9th, the team batting could sub for the pitcher as they were guaranteed extra innings.  A little perk to being player 2.

I strongly prefer 1 SP.  2 SP to me becomes too much of K and BB game.  Getting balls in play is a lot more fun.

The one starter rule is what screwed me in Milwaukee.  Not a fan of that rule.
