Hey guys...I happened across this magazine ad when I was at my parents' house, who had a garage sale...

...from "Game Pro" from back in the day:

Awesome pictures Joe.  I had never seen these before.  I just tried calling the number in the Tengen ad for the hell of it... only reached an answering machine.  I'll try back tomorrow or leave a message next time.

Those are pretty sweet.

Anyone ever heard of the "Optima" credit card?  Toys backward-R Us apparently accepted them when this ad came out.

"When you play R.B.I. BASEBALL, you're playing with real superstars, not no-names!"

You mean, "real superstars" like Al Pedriq and Blank Morris?

there are also folks complaining about the lack of Bobby Grich, Dwight Evans, and Willie Randolph.

Heh...yeah.  And don't forget Spike "#*%@-in" Owen.

I was really hoping to find an article about RBI in this magazine.  It's actually kind of cool--they have articles about a lot of Nintendo games in it...just happens that this issue didn't mention RBI.

I actually learned a few tricks from it:

Mike Tyson's Punchout: 135 792 4680 gives you "another world circuit."

Legend of Zelda: Register your current game under the name Zelda and start at the 2nd Quest.

Ice Hockey: Hold down both A and B buttons on both controllers and press start on P1 to play without goalies.

I remember as a kid there is one issue of Nintendo Power where they mentioned a national championship in RBI.  If anyone can find that one, it would be sweet!

IIRC - It was a short blurb and somebody won 5-3, one of the teams was San Fran.  Havne't seen it in over a decade so some of the data may be off...

Why am I looking at this thread?  Did someone link to this in a thread, and I forgot I opened it in a tab?
"Thank you Mr. Toilet Bowl..thank you for being cool on the side...you're the only one that understands me."

JoeDirt

Yeah, I did, homey.  I forget why now.

Thanks, I thought I was going crazy.  Those ads are pretty cool, they really knew how to market Nintendo games back in the day.  Just looking at those boxes makes me want to turn on the NES, and I also suddenly want to own all the Chinpokomon.
