For instance, if a leadoff guy has a 12 contact, and a 750 power, does that make him shitty?  Since contact has nothing to do with average, I was curious.

I'd say he's shitty - contact only determines how much is subtracted from his power if he doesn't make solid contact.  His best is still worse than a guy with 800 power and 40 contact.

Everybody is gonna suck on my 1927 rom

I'd worry more about your 1917 ROM, 1927 should be OK.  Also can you get a safe for work avatar?

I thnk the game needs to be hacked so we can have sweet leadoff hitters that always get a hit. Does rbi 2 or 3 have stats that reflect average?  I am seriously pissed that the original rbi never had average as a stat.  If average is not a stat, than its just HR derby all the time, isn't it?

Contact is supposed to reflect average.  That's as close as you're going to find.

In RBI 3, at least, contact rating is directly based on batting average.  Power is also directly based on homeruns for most players.

cool, so that stat engine needs to be transferred to rbi 1.

A little more info on contact rating...

Joesphady, see this link, the contact rating is there, it just is not nearly as important as POWER in the game.

Make a ROM using very high contact ratings for low average hitters (maybe 99, I'm not sure how high it'll go) and you make have a more accurate reflection.

It's not the engine; it's just how the programmers assigned the ratings.  In the original, contact rating roughly corresponds to average, but they took some liberties with it, and there's no mathematical formula.  In RBI 3, it appears that players were ranked by league, with averages being mapped to contact ratings.  You could do the same if you were to make a ROM using the original.

I have read that contact thing.  I want to make a rom where number one hitters can get a hit almost all the time, but never hit a Homer.

Give them insane speeds (like the heaven and hell ROM), 0 contact, and very (very) little power.  Every hit will be an infield single or a popout.  Of course, this also means they can score from first on a stolen base...
