Was doing 'Watch Play' on a ROM and noticed some peculiarities.  After game 1 each team had 3 pitchers available (Usually they use both starters in the first game but 10-run rule in the 3rd).  When the CPU toggled around for pitchers for Game 2, they stopped on the bottom pitcher, so each team started their closer for game 2.  To make matters worse, the CPU recognized that it had only 2 relievers available, so they wouldn't take the closer out until after 7 innings were complete leave SP2 to pitch only 1 inning of relief.

I not sure this will interest anyone besides me.

It is great that you are play-testing the code, but I'm pretty sure it is too late for Tengen to fix these bugs before the game goes gold.

ultimate7

An additional note, once it hits this 3 pitcher stage, it stays like this for the rest of the series, until there is another 10-run before the 7th (since both SP get used in the 7th), so Game 3 was again closer vs. closer

Good point but maybe if they ever make a sequel...

Ultimate7,

I find it hilarious.   I find it funny that you actually watched the games, but even funnier that they start the closers.  Gotta love RBI.  Is it the same on NES??

Sometimes I am bored at work, actually playing is often tough because it is too obvious, however watching is always possible, because I can just minimize for a while.

Hilarious that you watch.

The other thing I have been doing is running season after season of Tecmo Super Bowl and recording everyone's record and who does what in the playoffs.  At this point I've got a pretty good rating system set up, for what teams do in a CPU season.

I'd be interested in seeing results of that Tecmo play.  Can you post it?

OK, attached is my Excel sheet (work in progress), there are some fairly complex parts but here is the summary:

Sheet 1 has the year by year playoff qualifiers, Confernce finalists and SuperBowl winners.  Also a regular season MVP selection, which I later modified to make a co-MVP every year to make it easier on myself.

Sheet 2 has Season by Season Records for each team (Note this wasn't kept for the first 2 seasons).

Sheet 3 is mostly a calculation page Season by Season for each team with scoring (1 point for each win 1/2 pt for each tie, Then for postseason 1 pt for Wild Card qualifier, 2 pts for division winner 2 pts for making the Confernce Champ game, 2 pts for making the SB and 2 more pts for winning the SB, a perfect season could score a team 24 pts).

Sheet 4 has Overall Stats by team/division/conference, with total points and then schedule adjusted pts (some teams get bonus points for having tougher schedule, some teams get points subtracted for having weaker schedule)

Sheet RANK has overall rankings by points broken up by tiers of teams (note some positions have changed since I first did the rankings)

The other 2 sheets handle the Schedule info and schedule strength.

That's a half-ass effort.  You should have put more work into this. :D

Seriously though, super job.

Yeah I've done an insane amount of analysis for no particular reason, I've run 102 seasons so far, was going for 200 to complete the rankings, that should be plenty.

Also if you have an other questions about what I did, feel free to ask.

You're a fucking madman!  I don't think I've played 100 seasons in all my years of Tecmo.  That is insane.

Wow, no team that went 16-0-0 in the regular season won the Super Bowl.  The '72 Dolphins will always be able to pop champagne.  Nice work.

For those of you that weren't able to open the excel I'm attaching a text file of the summary, with # of Division Titles, Conf Titles SB titles, and Playoff Appearances for each team.

TB has yet to make the SB, yet they've made the playoffs 7 times

SF is now 31-16 in SB good considering they were about 8-8 in their first 16

Buf is 20-20 in SB, they had started around 10-5 so they have leveled off.

Some Notes:

- Either SF or Buf will win the SB about 50% of the time.
- Every team had made the playoffs atleast once
- SF has made the playoffs in every season
- Detroit ranking 20th has won the SB twice in 13 POA
- Minn is 1-9 in 10 SB

Added:
Thurman Thomas is the man, he is in the MVP running every year, routinely has scores 25 TD with 2000 combined yards and has had as many as 37 TDs and over 3000 yds.

looks like the patriots are the new Pre-world series era Red Sox.....made the playoffs 1 stinking time in 104 years  ;D  Totally surprises me the bottom feeders and just how few times they have crawled into the playoofs, but i can think of a gazzillion times where those teams would be right on the cusp of the playoofs, then get hammer in thier final 2 or so and miss out.

also surprised to see the eagles have been in the big game so few times.

this is a great discovery for sure....many props for your time!

I'm very surprised with Seattle, New Orleans, Pitt and Detroit winning Super Bowls.  Those teams are pure crap, especially the Saints.  Steve Walsh, when used by a human player, throws at least two picks a game.
