Have you guys tried Baseball Simulator 1.000?

Since you're baseball people I just thought I'd ask if you guys ever played baseball simulator.  We've developed a pretty cool system on the SNES version where we convert current or old players into the game and the stats come out fairly accurate.  The coolest thing is that you can play a 165 game season with up to six other people and it keeps all the stats on your players for you.  Let me know if you're interested and I'll give you more info on setting it up.

a friend of mine swears by it, but i could never get into it because they don't have real players- just first names that don't even correspond to any real players.  i just couldn't get jacked up that "dale" hit a home run for "team ny".

You can find both of them at Vimm's Lair.  The SNES version is Super Baseball Simulator 1.000, so it's under "S" instead of "B".

I have and enjoy Baseball Simulator for the NES.  I like to use a regular team and play in a league against "Ultra" teams (better stats, and they have super powers, like uncatchable hits and unhittable pitches) - it actually puts some challenge in playing the computer.  I've never had the attention span for a 165-game season; I don't even know if I've done a 60-game one.  30 is good, though.

The controls are just like RBI, and the graphics are similar (batters are a little more slender).  There is jumping and diving using A - the diving is mostly worthless, but the jumping can actually allow you to rob homers on some stadiums.  There are 6 different stadiums, each with their own dimensions.  Space is the easiest one to hit homers, while Dome has long, high fences; the others are in between.  The computer opponent is similarly crappy to RBI's, and he won't jump or dive for balls.

Ok, I don't want to flood you with all the info I have on the game, but I will post the player chart we use to convert real players into the game.  I'll also post a few teams I've already converted so you can check them out.  Of all the baseball games out there we think this one on the Super Nintendo is the most realistic and fun to play.  Let me know what you think.

Here's the 87 Twins.  All you have to do is edit your new team and pick moderate, since it gives you more points for your players.  Just enter the players real life Avg that year, and convert their real HR and SB/3B with the charts into the game.  We base all player stats on a full 600 AB season so they are more realistically represented.  Good example here is Justin Morneau who hit 20+ homers this year in limited ABs.  Giving a full season he might have 40 so that's why we have to extrapolate most players stats to reflect a full season, and then take a gander at the chart and see what HR power they get in the game.

It might take some time to do this on paper, but its worth it in the end.  I do have this on excel with the formulas so all you have to do is plug the numbers in, although there are still some subjective categories that you must decide upon, such as pitcher curves.   I don't think I can post excel attachments here so you can just leave your email and I'll send it to you.  Or if you want me to convert a team for you, just let me know which one and I'll post it.  You can reach me here Eric21ND@hotmail.com

And out of curiosity TYRONE, how large is the crew that plays baseball simulator?  Do you guys ever play the original one?

What do you mean by a "ROM"?

There's about 5 that play the game, but only 4 are religious players.  haha  We aren't that concerned about winning the game so to speak, we just play to see how well we do with our players and to see how their stats come out.  We don't use any special Ninja balls or anything like that since we're going for realism and there's no Ninja pitches in MLB, although there apparentally are ninja kicks in ala Chan Ho Park.  lol 

I haven't played the orginal on the NES for years and years.  I love NES games but they never save that good and you end up losing your stats or saved games on them, so that's why we made a chnage from Baseball Stars to Simulator on the SNES.  We wanted a game that we could control and therefore fine tune to something more realistic.

Oh yeah nintendo emulators, you know I just recently learned of their existence.  I'm not a big fan of computer gaming so I'm a little in the dark about that.  So they have emulators for the NES or SNES?   Do they have all the games?

We play on the good ol' SNES with the stand by cartridge.  Oh what year of the cubs do you want?  1984?  I took a look at that team and I have no idea how they won over 90+ games.

There are emulators for pretty much every console system ever created (even PlayStation 2, I think, although I don't know that it runs at full speed on current computer hardware).  Zophar's Domain at http://zophar.net is a great place to find emulators.  Here's their list of systems with emulators for Windows and/or DOS.  You can find ROMs at http://planetemu.net/ - I believe they have all the games for most older systems (NES and SNES included).

In order for games to be very fun, you'd also want a controller that hooks to your computer.  Some of the guys here have gotten actual NES controllers that plug into the USB ports on your computer - they're great for online RBI.
