Ideal pitching staff

Given a choice of 2 starters and 2 relievers, what would your ideal RBI pitching staff be?

Gooden has a great combination of speed, curve, and longevity.  Tudor is the best left handed starter in the game, in my opinion.  Berenguer, although short on endurance, throws fireballs.  Orosco has a good curve and I like the sidearm delivery.

I go for the speed myself.  You can really screw people up by changing speeds a lot.  Plus, Clemens and Ryan both have decent curves.

Berenguer is the most overrated pitcher on these boards. He's probably in my bottom 5.

I think it's important to have a good combo of righties/lefties, fastball/curve.   Berenguer's fastball is great, and I think he can round out the pitching staff well.  It was a toss up for me between him and Garrelts.   Now that I think of it, I'd probably prefer Garrelts for more endurance.

Seems like a lot of people pick Tutor for one of their favorite starters.  I never have luck with him.  What separates Tudor from the rest.  I cannot believe I am the only person to pick Ryan.  I think he is by far the best in the game.  He can shut you completely down for 4 innings.  The only way you have any chance against him is if you flat out guess at the speed and location, cross your fingers, and swing blindly.

I like Tudor because he has a bit more zip on his ball than the other good "crafty" lefties: Ojeda, Key, Fernando, etc...but, he's clearly still crafty (can throw a sweeping curve to hit the outside of the outside of the outside corner)--moreso than some of the other harder throwing leftiesHurst, Viola, etc. 

Tudor has the best of both worlds and he can go 6 innings easily.

I do like Ryan--but it's tainted because in order to pitch with Ryan, you have to bat with Houston.

True, but in order to pitch w/ Tudor, you have to bat with SL.  For the purposes of the poll question, I don't think the batting line up matters.

I am going to play a game with SL right now to see how good Tudor really is.

I think Saberhagen is one of the most underated players in this game. But that could just be because no one uses him that much because he is an allstar.

I think JoeD already hit the nail on the head for Tudor but I'm gonna repeat.

First off, he's a lefty and he's crafty.  But he's got plenty of zip on his fastball and his changeup drops on a consistent basis.  Throw in the fact that he rarely has to be taken out before the 7th, and you have the makings of a number one ace.

I hate pitching with Nolan Ryan.  I think he's far too predictable. It's either gonna be heat or...heat.  His changeup sucks balls because he throws to hard.  The best thing to do against Ryan is foul off a couple of pitches and wait for what you're looking for.  He usually only lasts about 4 or 5 innings in my house.  I would much rather pitch with Mike Scott - I almost took him over Doc.

I'm guessing that since StockW plays straight pitch and prefers hard throwers, he might not really be into Tudor.  I'm curious to hear the results of his St. Louis game.

As for Saberhagen, I like him a lot, but never play with AL all stars.  I'd agree he's underrated.  In my experience, the sidearm pitchers make better relievers, as it's easy for me to become adjusted to their delivery after an inning or two.

Actually, it had nothing to do with straight pitch.  I made my selection assuming "anything goes".  I do not think it matters in straight pitch as we always play "no fast or slow balls" too when we play straight pitch.  I think I hit every pitcher equally in straight pitch (except for some reason I hit exceptionally well off of Krokow and Witt.)

I just got done playing a game w/ St. Louis, and was admittedly surprised over how good he was.  I don't think I would change "ideal pitching staff" to include him.  Though, I will have much more respect for him in the future.

Tudor - Love the lefty starter here
Scott - Great change of pace starter or coming off the bench in long relief. That drop pitch can get into your opponent's head.
Righetti - Best lefty reliever in the game.
Garrelts - His drop pitch speed is the same as his curve speed: that's a great way to get the key strikeout when you need it.

Wow.  This really surprises me.  I definitely think Uncle Jesse and Willie Hernandez are far and away better.  I also think Franco is better.  I'd even go so far as to say that Dayley is better...

You know who is a great RP but gets very little pub?  Henke.  I think he and Bedrosian are the top 2 righty RPs in the game...
