The long-awaited Straight Pitch League got underway tonight...

The Thundercats were anxious to get a few games under their belts.  Their GM was hoping that their practices would help them get in to "game" shape...and it certainly looked like it did.

The Thundercats came out storming against Nails and didn't let up.  In the first game, the Thundercats won 12-1 in 6 innings.  Clemens pitched 5-2/3 innings before giving way to Berenguer for the final out.  Here's the rundown:

Chili had Nails' solo homer.

While the Thundercats went as follows:
Leonard 1
Jackson 2
Sheridan 1
Pendleton 1
Gedman 2

Second game results to follow.

After getting the initial jitters out of their system, The Thundercats wanted to come out and prove that their first game wasn't a fluke.  And a fluke, it was not.

The Thundercats shutout Nails, 10-0 in 6 innings.  Clemens pitched all 6 innings.  This game's stud definitely was Sheridan with 2 homers and 4 RBIs.

The rest went as follows:
Leonard 1
Jones 1
Rice 1
Sheridan 2

Going into the final game, The Thundercats knew that their opposition wasn't going to just give in and roll over.  Nails wanted to prove that he wasn't going to be a pushover in this league.  The Thundercats just wanted to play consistent ball and continue their great play.

Nails started off strong with a 3-run first inning.  But they couldn't really capitalize off of that.  The Thundercats came back with a 4-run third inning, followed by an 8-run fifth inning.  The Thundercats couldn't finish Nails off until the bottom of the 8th inning when game stud, Go-Go Gedman, hit his 4th homer for 6 RBIs to help lift The Thundercats over Nails, 18-8 (in eight innings).

Homers went as follow...

Nails:
Davis 1
Clark 1
Henderson 1
Heep 1
Teufel 1

The Thundercats went as follows:
Leonard 1
Rice 1
Jackson 2
Sheridan 2
Schofield 1
Pendleton 1
Gedman 4

Great games, despite the lack of competition in games one and two.  Lips failed to mention that he threw a one-hitter! in game two.  Nail's bats were completely silent, and few balls even left the infield.  The lone hit was a single from Chris Speier in the 5th (?) inning.  It was complete domination from the Thundercat's pitching staff.

The GM for Nails is seriously considering demoting half the roster to AAA.

My timing sucked.  I had a lot of trouble timing pitches and pulling the ball.  Too many ground balls to the opposite side, and when I did pull it, it was a grounder right to short. I left too many pitches hanging over the plate, and didn't have enough speed changes.  It was my first game against another person in a very long time, and i'll be more focused next time around.

Lips did a great job all around.  Solid pitching, defense, and a lot of power in that lineup.  Very good games...

Yeah, I haven't played Baines yet, and I don't really know how to get ahold of him...

You can try his profile.  He has email and IM contact information listed.  Or you can try to send him a PM.

Or you can attempt telekinesis. Not as effective, but more impressive if you can pull it off.

PSU = No talent ass clowns

AP - Portsmouth, OH
Parish State University has elected to discontinue its RBI baseball program effective following the 2005 straight pitch season.  This announcement comes after a dissappointing 0-3 start vs. the Fighting Noah G's.  University president Chris Parish cites a number of reasons such as lackluster play and pisspoor fan support.

And his actions seem to be deserved as the majority of Penguin fans are frustrated with the team and calling for the head of manager Matt Montavon.  One student AaRon Smith said, "We just can't give him a free pass because of all the years he led our bowling team to national titles.  That was as an athlete, not a coach. The guy obviously has no eye for talent, look at the draft he had.  We need a Mel Kiper type guy in here to get some real talent on the squad."

At the post game press conference Montavon had this to say:  "The guys just didn't execute tonight.  They obviously weren't drinking enough Blatz before the game."  When questioned about the uncertainty of his job status at PSU he replied: "These guys are a bunch of no heart bastards anyway.  I'll try not to let the door hit me in the ass on the way out."  Montavon was then asked about the  repeated throws that missed their target at second base to which he replied with: "I have a $10 Walmart controller" and a John Chaney-esque "I'll fucking kill you."  Shortly afterward, Montavon was restrained by PSU officials while attempting to attack a Portsmouth Daily Times reporter.

No further details were available at press time.  The Strutting Penguins (0-3) face Joe Dirt Next week.
