4-man RBI Tourney this weekend

pairing are set up.  all teams were given random pairings/seedings with the only stipulation that you would not have the same 2 guy playing each other in the first round in both sides of the bracket. 

The higher seed will always be the home team.  I had the set of picks "1 and 8" fall to me and got Boston and Houston. luckily i managed to draw St Louis for round 1 with Houston.  So there could be hope for a win or 2.

1st 2 rounds are best of 3, and the finals are best of 5.  anything goes style pitching.

I won the first tournament with St Louis and I don't plan on losing my title any time soon. It should be fun. This is my first Message so be nice to me.

John Tudor is the devil!  that bastard.  i'm gonna plunk him first time i face him.  at least then it hurts his chances of him going his usual 2-3 with 2 doubles and 3 rbi's against me.  other than Tudor, i dont have much to worry about with the cards bats.

yeah, fkn Tudor.  the guy is a maniac.  in back to back series, he pretty much single handedly won the damn things.  he would get key hits when my pitchers started to tire.  the pitch count is starting to get up there, and you figure the pitcher cant do much damage, so u toss em right in there, and bam, hed hit those balls that are just out of reach of 1 feilder, and way off base for the other.

Cam schooled me on how to toss em right in there, to conserve pitches, yet not give up big hits to the scrubs.  im all on this info and ready to win this dang thing.

we started with DET clobbering MIN in 2.

then I took on BOS and played Brian for the first time ever.  I won the first game 1-0 i think.  maybe 2-0. not sure.  In game 2 i took something like a 3-1 lead into the top of the 9th.  with 2 on and 2 out and strawberry at the plate, a brain fart struck and i left in schiraldi with stanley in the pen , and daryl clobber the ball to high holy hell, and i lost 4-3.  Shiraldi actuallly had some decent stuff at the time, but it was a dumb move to not just end it there.  In game 3 i got the standard 2-run homer from one of the big 3(henderson.rice/baylor) and i won that game maybe 3-1.  semi close, but a semi comfortable win.  real fkn tough series, cause Brian can play pretty well.   

My next first round series had me and Houston vs Chad and st louis.  the first game was ryan vs tudor.  Nolan pitched 9 scoreless innings.  hell tudor went something crazy like 8 scoreless himself.  at the time i figured i could just wait out his bull pen to tire, then finally get the win as my bullpen would be inbetter shape than his.  things remained scoreless...into the 11th, the 12th, the 13th.....finally in the 14th.  with a man on i geta  ground ball, but accidentally toss to first, and dont get the double play.  kerfeld just starting to show serious signs of tiring, and st louis has had thier 3rd pitcher in now for a couple inings.  i gambled to try and get the last damn out and preserve smith.  also kerfeld was gonna be probably facing the bottom 2 or so in the next inning, so i thought maybe preerve smith even longer.  however Pena hits a 2-out double to score his man.  In the bottom of the 14th i cant score and lose 1-0. 

In game 2 Scott gets rocked for 4 in the top of the 1st.  i hold em scoreless the rest of the way, but i only score 1 run.  i had about 3 serious chances, but they were always 2 guys on and 2-outs type stuff.  Genna Davis does nothing all series.
in the last series of the first round, Cal beats SF pretty bad.  Jeff's teams are eliminated.  hes not a bad batter, but he either burns up his pitchers too fast, or he just doesnt nibble as much as you are supposed to.  also Jeff leaves his guys in way too long.  so that explains MIN and SF getting clobbered in 4 straight losses.

In the second round, I got BOS vs DET and chad.  this series to me is basically the finals, and who ever wins here, will win it all.  In game one, I get a Rice homer for a 1-0 lead.  However somewhere in the middle 3 Trammel gets a solo shot, and i believe in the same ining so does Fatty Matty.  DET holds on for a 2-1 win.

in game 2 Trammel once again goes yard early, like in the 3rd inning, and things looks bad.  Chad started a DET reliever and the guy was cruising.  however around the 4th, i get em loaded and baylor comes up with 2 outs.  i guess correctly on the first pitch and just send it over the wall for a 4-1 lead.  the guys find that they like my celebrations.  kinda firey when i play.  i get somehting like 5 innings outta hurst, and have to go to the pen earlier than i wanted to.  however DET gets a run here and a run there, and in the 9th with BOS leading 4-3 darrel evans facing a tired stanley with 2 outs hits a 3 run dong for a 6-4 lead.  in the bottom of 9th i got a chance cause i believe it was king, and he was kinda tired.  i had baylor, dewey and gedman comin up, and i get a man on, but end up grounding into a double play.

in the other series, ST luois upset CAL.  not sure the details was i had to leave after my last games.  DET beats ST Louis in 3 games i believe(in the best of 5 finals) and DET is the winner.

Props to chad aka Kukdog(who posted here once!).  Chad is probably a hair better than me, or else just a hair luckier.  havent decided on that yet.  other than a couple bad jobs of playing skipper and when to take out my pitchers, i did pretty well.  however its tough cause im always trying to squeeze out that extra out or inning to get me ahead in the relief pitcher arms race.  i did a good job overall at taking pitches and trying to wear down guys as much as possible.  i also would bring in all my subs the 2nd time thru trying to capitalize on a pitcher who just starting to become hittable, with some hits.  didnt work so hot, but i got a henderson homer or 2 outta the deal.

Bumpst..........i guess i was wrong.  I was not the 1st guy to lead both teams to the finals like i did yesterday.  Chad probably did not lose a game in this tourney from a year and half ago.  Ive come a long way.

I just watched the tape of some of these games. man did i suck!  i imagine i wasnt much better at Dirt's Tourney.  I think at Dirt's tourney i was a little more schooled on the bench players and such, and i think i had just started trying to develope a S-curve.

It no wonder i was eliminated quickly in this tourney.
