Truth that RBI mirrors real life, the Pettis caption:

Although speedy, Gary Pettis often had a hard time getting on base initially

Man, Bob Boone having an OBP of .242 is just butt-awful...

fknmclane

This only furthers the truth that Gary Pettis, to borrow a phrase from Gantry, is a bag of ass.

I just wiped my ass then smelled the toilet paper.  What's wrong with me?

the dude either has some high float or a mess between the cheeks.

Last time I played with Cali Pettis was on fire.  He was on base all day and even hit a home run.

I'm a Pettis fan.  He'll get ABs for me during the tourney.  Boone will too.

Wow:

9. Al Leiter, 2003, New York Mets — P
Sandy Koufax and Wilbur Wood were legendarily poor hitters, but neither of them ever turned in a season quite like Leiter's 2003.

It may be a while before a Big Leaguer does worse than Leiter's 1-for-53 (.019) effort that season.

He did draw two walks for a .055 OBP. (Seriously, what's the fine for walking an .019 hitter?) His hit was a single, and his slugging percentage was also .019, giving him an .074 OPS.
Battle not with monsters lest ye become a monster, and if you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.

Wow #2:

Enzo (Hernandez) came to the plate 618 times and drove in 12 runs. Twelve. That's right, in 618 plate appearances, Hernandez drove in as many runs as Jim Bottomley and Mark Whiten knocked in a single game.

Maybe he never had anyone on base during any of those 618 at-bats

Gantry

Only if he was on the Durant Red Sox..

TempoGL

on one of my whatifsports.com teams, Enzo Hernandez is my starting shortstop...

How would the RBI Astros compare to this lineup?

The Raiders are a successful organization

The shame in all of this is that he didn't adjust for park effects... after all, Neifi Perez managed a .564 OPS in 2002, for the KC Royals...  in a HITTER'S PARK.  Check the OPS+ (park-adjusted at www.baseball-reference.com) of 40.  Way worse than even that posted by Enzo Hernandez.

Strassy, you ever do Strat-O-Matic on Sportingnews.com? If so, how does Whatifsports compare to Strat?

I've been meaning to do a whatif for a hockey franchise, but haven't had time yet.

How dare you speak badly of Neifi, I think Ryno is going to kick your ass.

I'm as big a fan of the Cubs as Ryno is, but Neifi's deal with satan clearly is almost up.  And his history of sucking (pre-Cubs, to be sure) is truly monumentally impressive.

I haven't been following baseball in about a decade, but the barometer of a sucky middle infielder for me has always been Jose "Chico" Lind.  How does Neifi compare?  They were both Royals too, poor poor Bonny...

Dryden

Well, by win shares, they both deserved 2 gold gloves (each actually won 1, although lind didn't deserve the one he got).  Neifi, of course, plays the harder defensive position and has been a multitasker through the years, whereas lind played 100% at 2B.

Lind is ever so slightly more valuable with the bat, in 500 less plate appearances, including posting some impressive intentional walk totals (how?  I have no fucking idea, actually.)

Basically, it's a question of how much more valuable do you think playing SS is over 2B.  You could probably make the case Lind is worse, but any way you cut it, these are 2 of the worst players to ever accumulate 4000+ PAs in major league history.
