if it's in chicago, i can also provide transport to/from airport, and depending on my living situation at this time next year, possible accomodations for a few people.

I could likely accomidate a few for Chicago also, assuming the wife agrees, for that to be true, it would probably have to be those not likely to puke in the dining room.

I never miss the toilet and/or bushes.

Holy fucking shit I've missed a ton today...

Okay, here's my actual costs from the weekend:

-flight: $200 (I got very, very lucky)
-hotel: $40 (split it with GDavis and usc for a $100 total)
-booze, cab rides, food: $100

That's a grand total of $340.  This does not count the cold, dead spot in my heart from prolonged exposure to MikeD and rdub nor does it count the bronchitis that has kicked back in from smoking too many of nightwulf's Turkish Golds nor does it count my estimated three days of rehibilitation.  But let me put it this way:  it's perhaps the best $340 I have ever spent.

As for where it should be and what we should do, I'd say Chicago is the logical spot.  A huge number of dee neers live there and Gantry can store quite a few of us.  I also think side games are the key instead of a tournament.

Vegas would be a blast but it would also be extremely hectic and it's hardly cheap.

That's all the chiming in I have for now.  But keep in mind that I voted for "I'll go anywhere" in the puhl.

I just wiped my ass then smelled the toilet paper.  What's wrong with me?

Two votes then mclane, anywhere and chicago...

With all the dee-nee members in chicago, the point of the airport isn't an issue.  Even though it's far, as long as people help me out then it's no biggie at all...

Does anyone want to give a nicely-worded reason for a smaller city?  I think most early signs are pointing to chicago...

The matter of the date also has to be settled.  Would people prefer a 3-day weekend or a standard two day with taking a day or two off?  The one thing I kept thinking was that it was too short.  A Monday "cool down" day would have been nice, leaving Sunday for some fun yet a little less drunken fun.  I think by Sunday, people are still down for hanging out and spending one more night, yet not getting completely shitfaced like on Friday and Saturday.  Most people had their bodies began the rejection process on Sunday, that could be used for some less stressful hanging out...

THe biggest issue is that familymen may not be able to work one of those weekends...

Voted for east coast because i'm a lazy bitch.  But Chicago has got to be the best location.

Well we have two beds that hold two people, one bed that holds one person and three couches.  That is non-floor arrangements for 6 people.  If I know in advance I'll score at least two bed/futon/air mattresses.  After that ,there is hella floor space.  Eight people will sleep well...

25 minutes isn't "bad" per say, but if I have to make that trip 4-6 times in the first day, it'll suck balls. Plus friday traffic on 294 South is the worst thing you can possibly experience...

actually - friday traffic on 90 east is the worst thing you can possibly experience, except maybe friday traffic on 90 west heading out of the city.  bottom line is, never, ever, ever go on 90 unless you have to.

gantry, i have gleaned from these posts that you alone occupy a house once also lived in by sperling, lips, and potsie.  does this mean you have three empty bedrooms?  want a roommate? or a bed mate....?

Ganty, are part of a condiminium association? Don't those things have crazy rules and shit, I imagine having 30 of your closest internet friends over for RBI baseball might not be widly accepted, I understand if your not worried about, it would just be unfortunate for you to get in any trouble.
What do you got there, the 4 volt? I did you a favor.

Gantry

I live in the same house, with no dee-nee members.  Potsie wants to come back, but he's in debt and that may or may not happen.  Three empty bedrooms upstairs, I live in the basement.  I have a condo association and expecting fines from the tourney.  They already hate me, so it's no biggie.  Both my neighbors (one is skinny's mom) have never complained so they are used to the craziness...

I lived in Wicker Park for a year, so I nkow both those routes very well.  Ask Potsie/Lips/Sperling too, they made the friday pm trip quite often back in the day.  They are all shitty, inbound Edens my be the worst of them all.  I loser is you no matter what route.  Regardless, friday pickups from 4-7pm would suck royally.  I'd start a cab fund in fact...

This is no time to be unselfish

This sounds like a blast.  The best bets for me are Milwaukee or Chicago - I have an uncle in the Milwaukee area (Waukesha), and it's possible that I could fold this into a family trip to visit him.  Otherwise, I doubt I'm going to be able to convince my wife to let me abandon the family for a weekend to hang with y'all.  The only other realistic possibility for me is if everyone came to Rochester - thanks to presence of the Mayo Clinic, there are plenty of hotels, and I'm sure Mayo is exceptional at treating alcohol poisoning.

Milwaukee is barely an hour from my house, you can sneak down for Saturday and stay there Friday/Sunday.  I won't tell SonofBeef or WifeOfBeef

Chicago is good because of all the folks from around here. I also have the dee-nee house, which can easily host 10-15 RBI'ers for free lodging. Mike Beales is also due for his 2006 COTUT in Chicago, which can also be hosted here. Assuming Mike wants the responsibility, we can do a 32-man tourney if we get enough people.

I don't want to speak out of turn here, but I would be very surprised if Beales wanted to get the COTUT and a drunken dee nee fest mixed together.  They're both great--don't get me wrong, but for those of us who really have a strong love for these national tournaments, it's a little tough...especially when you're trying to run and win said tourney (not that I minded at all...just saying it's a lot to put on beales).

Agreed joedirt. Keep this deenee fest and cutout separate. A three day weeekend is a bad bad thing gantry b/c its either memorial or july 4. there are no other holidays in the summer and those are both big family holidays, most of the time.
We should just pick a weekend in mid/late july, early aug. People will have to take a day off of work or just show up early sat. and leave late sunday. its the best way. with 18 months notice, taking a day off shouldn't be a problem I wouldn't think.
Bearfucker! Do you need  assistance?!

Gantry

I too don't think Beales wants to hosts a 32-man tourney, he didn't sound like he was up for it at the bar.  The question is, would the non-drunks want to show up for a dee-nee fest?  If not, who is planning to attend the 2006 COTUT?

We could have both fests on the same weekend, in different venues.  I just want to make sure that people don't get excluded.  It was fun to meet ALL the folks so far, so I would like to include those who typically don't want to spend two days wrecking their bodies.  Perhaps that isn't doable though...

Excellent point Roogs, there aren't enough 3-day weekends, scratch that idea.  Hopefully more folks can stay until Monday this time and get two days off of work...

JoeDirt

Perhaps have the tourney at its planned location and the dee nee fest at the dee nee house?   Then tourney players can stop by the house in the evenings for fun but still play in the tourney during the day (while still in it, at least)...
