had this disccussion with Gantry and Malnu sunday night, and i never posted the link or any info cause i figured yall knew about this...but here it is.  They'd never heard about it.

http://www.nesreproductions.com/

as long as you got a rom that you can play on your PC he can somehow then turnaround and get it onto a cart that you can play in your nes.  he's from cananda, and i think its about 30/35 bucks per game and you dont exactly need to supply your own cart.  from what i remember from the tecmo repository forums he was reputable, but im not for sure on that, so if you do buy, make sure that maybe its just one carts to start with, then go from there....before you sen him a shitload of cash.

heres link to the post about this at the reposiory site.   its got some decent traffic from tiem to time, so hopefuly we'll get some feedback in the next day about this guy.

this would keep you inline with the nes, the controller and the calssic feel, if youd prefer that to using your dreamcast or whatever for those roms

reminds me...nightwulf i got a few TB projects for yah, that i''ll contact you about soon..i'll make it worth your time as well.

If we can get a nice core group of buyers, we can make a 2005 or all-time RBI ROM set and possibly get a nice discount.  There are a bunch of user ROMs that would make a great NES cart...

Thanks for the link TBT, I'll have to inquire further...

TbT

ive talked to the guy via email about some TB stuff i want.  theres some roms for TB from like 2003 that are out there on the repository that i may just send him and have him make me a game quick just to actually check it out.

i'll get on this and try to have some results in the next week or so as to how the game play is and stuff....apparently you provide the artwork for the cover of the game as well......lemon party bowl, or tub girl bowl would be approppriate  ;D  maybe both!

i'll post any finding from buyers on the repository before we go to deep into business with this guy.

$35 is not too bad, I might look into this, but probably not since I hardly even play NES RBI or my Arcade RBI.

If anyone does this, post results.

Arcade RBI is a no brainer, forgot about that!  Who would be down for buying an arcade RBI cart?  Post here.  I think if we have enough people, we can get the price down to $25.  But then again I don't know how much this shit really costs...

ultimate7

I know Mcclane is interested, if you got Arcade carts with NES gameplay, I would probably be in for $25.

If we used nightwulf's NES ROM with arcade players we'd be set on that...

nightwulf

You'd actually have to use the NES engine with arcade players. For reasons which I'll skip since they're probably long and boring, a suitable "donor cart" for the arcade RBI does not exist.

I don't mean to frown on the idea, but it's just not something I'm really that excited about. I'd just as soon burn a few thousand NES ROMs onto a disc (including a few dozen versions of RBI) and play them on the Dreamcast. Another possibility is to obtain one of the various NES development carts which would allow you to continually reburn the ROM with whatever game you feel like playing, instead of $30 per shot.

This whole "donor cart" business is necessary because (almost every) NES game uses additional hardware to ... "make the game bigger" (best I can do), and there's probably a couple dozen different ways to do it in widespread use, and probably somewhere around 100 (hundred) different mappers overall. Fortunately for us, RBI Baseball uses what's known as "MMC3," which is the most common mapper by far. I'll try to get a list of compatible boards put together, 'cause I'm fairly sure you can pick up bullshit games at garage sales for a quarter that would work as an RBI "donor cart."

I emailed the guy and asked what sort of discount he offers between ten and thirty carts.  I have a feeling Arcade RBI would fall between those numbers...

Cool, never heard of this.  You got links or a place that sells said carts?

Let us know about the donor carts, that might help persuade some more people to get one made...

Gantry

Got a reply already from the guy who makes the cart, looks like $30 is going to be the best price.  Who is interested?  Even though I already have the arcade RBI, I think I'd spring for one at $30.

I'll also go on the lookout for a volume pack of MMC3 carts to ship to the guy.  If I can pull that off, we'll save a couple bucks a cart.  But don't count on it...

---

The 35$ per cart cost covers:

- cost of donor cart (most popular MMC3 cards are Super Mario Bros 2 &
3). Unfortunetly, their costs have gone up a lot over the last couple
of years.  MMC3 is not the most popular donor cart, MMC1 is.  The
difference between the two is component cost.  MMC3 uses two 1 or
2MBit ROM chips + SRAM chip (and some have a battery as well).  MMC1
on the other hand (especially SLROM), uses only a single ROM chip.
Much much cheaper to make in the 80s.. so there were more SLROM based
games.  I'm actually having difficulty finding MMC3 donor boards for
other customers.

- cost of EPROM chips

- cost of labour (takes about an hour per cart from beginning to end to make)

- cost of shipping (from Toronto, Canada)

So the 35$ cost is really cutting it close.  The only way I can really
save on cost is shipping (multiple carts shipped to the same place at
the same time is much cheaper than many packets being shipped all over
the place).

If you order 5 or more carts, I'll be able to do 30$ per cart (25$ if
you provide the donor).  I'll be able to knock off another 5$ if all
carts are shipped to the same place and you order 10 or more carts.

TbT

Rod Woodson (aka the Gantry of the tecmo repository site) replied to my post saying he got his cart with no hitches or problems.

Gantry

He sent another followup email already, he is clearly on top of things and knows his shit.  I think two possible carts initially:

Arcade RBI
Regular NES with 2-player pause and same teams

I think either cart should get us to the minimum number of 5 copies for the discount.  Shit, I'd love to have either cart and may just buy both.  Who is the best of the best, pick the same team and find out!

Who is up for one or the other?

TbT

i think id most like the same teams one for now......I can get the arcade later.

I may be interested in the arcade version. I probably should play it first to see if I like it.

It's the same game with different players (what's not to like?)

I would most definitely be down with this.  It'd also be super fun to debate the exact ratings for each player if we make a 2005 ROM...or just getting the arcade ROM would be kick ass...

I would prefer a 2K5 ROM, but I could be persuaded if the group decides something else.

Attezzobal

I'm in for the two player pause/same team ROM...probably the arcade as well, but definitely the same team rom.

I don't see the point in $30 for the same team 2pp rom.  The same team part is nice, but is it really that hard to say, "dude, i need a time out?"
