No-hitters/perfectos vs. computer

I just started to try this.   I'm not even going to do the combined no-hitter thing because I know it would be too easy.  Also, using the slaughter rule would be too easy.

One pitcher, all nine innings.    I got Nolan going tonight vs. MN and he cruised through seven before Hrbek hit a liner for a single   

I was pissed.   He walked two in the ninth, as I was trying to make the hitters bite on that outside change-up pitch, and they wouldn't.     It ended up being a  12 strikeout, one-hit, two walk performance.   Nolan also had two hits and scored the only two runs in the game.    The rest of the time on offense I just bunted out on purpose to get out and speed the game up.   

Any advise on  what pitchers to use?  Saberhagen is good but I would rather not use an All-Star pitcher.   After that 6th inning, the fastball is gone and I'm wondering how to pitch for those last few innings....backing players off the plate and then sliding the ball to the outside corner doesn't work as well in the late innings because they can slide over and make contact in time.  Man, I think I'll keep trying this tonight!

In the meantime, any suggestions would be appreciated.  I'll be checking back from time to time.

Anyone ever thrown a no-no or perfecto vs. the computer using these rules?

DAMMIT!!!!  Another heartbreak.

I had Nolan pitch against CA  and he gave up a ground ball error to Don Sutton which of course RBI counts as a hit 

Nolan stayed perfect and so did the Angels, since I intentionally got out until one out in the ninth, when I got my only hit of the game-  Dickie Thon's home run.

1-0 in the bottom of the ninth, two outs, Nolan gives up a liner to DeCinces for the first true hit of the game.  It turns out to be a 15 K,  2 hitter.  Dammit!

I believe I used Clemens the whole game.

I know for a fact that in my previous attempt for the "Steve Nebraska", I used Sutcliffe for all 9 innings, struck out 26, walked 2, and allowed 0 hits.

I've done the 27k perfecto with Nolan vs. the Mets for sure.  It's easiest (for me, at least) to pitch a no-hitter/perfect game with Nolan, Clemens or Sutcliffe.  The trick is to get guys to chase those just outside pitches consistently, but when they make contact, it's pretty much luck at that point.  If you've thrown a couple of one-hitters, keep trying, you'll get there.  As long as you strike out 20+, you've got an excellent chance.

If you want to try for the combined 27k perfecto, it's pretty easy using Scott and Ryan, actually.

This is exactly what I do.  Hit the corners and let them hit it.  I also never throw fastballs or knuckles.  Just hit 'A' to pitch and direct the ball to the corners of the plate.  Without throwing fastballs/knucklers, you'll preserve your pitcher's stamina, and it should be relatively easy to get him to the 9th fresh.

I always prefer Gooden, but Blyleven, Ryan, Scott are great choices too, as they have above average stamina.  If luck is on your side, you can do it with almost any of the starters.  I've once had a 9 inning no-hitter with zero strikeouts using Bobby Ojeda.
