I was very impressed to see the creators of this web page critiquing Rancid albums.  I must say that Rancid is a fine choice for RBI playing.  Not only does it pump your team up, but it is quality shit!  Here in C-Town, we have also noticed that Green Day and The Reverend Horton Heat go well with a heated RBI match.  I think Zepplin would be a great choice, but I'm the only one in my circle who likes them.  The other turds in my RBI circle go a little bit overboard on the punk rock thing.  Also, why isn't Tom Lawless on the Cardinal bench?  I can only imagine how solid he would be as a sub.  "This ain't no mecca man, this place is fucked!"

The FAQ says it best:

What music goes best with RBI Baseball?

We tend to pluck from the punk genre. The official CD for RBI Baseball is Fat Wreck Chords' Survival of the Fattest (aka Chuck). Other punk RBI favorites are NOFX, Dance Hall Crashers, All, Dillinger Four, Tilt, and The Goops. The top non-punk CDs are Pat Benetar, The Rocky Soundtrack, Booty Mix volume 3, Ministry, and Urge Overkill.

Other ones that have been getting heavy play are System of a Down's first CD (Toxicity is good, but SOAD is way better) & the Karate Kid Soundtrack.  Track 10, "You're the best... around" is instant momentum...

Back in G squared we always play with the RBI music only, it's like tradition, but maybe we should change it up and let the home team or the defending champ chose the background music, either way the RBI music will always be on somewhat so we can hear the effects.

Thanks for the advice.  I'm sure my boys have most of those bands on CD.  They are punk rock gurus.  We have also been known to put in some Ramones.  I never even thought of the Karate Kid soundtrack.  In fact, I may go buy that today.  That album has got to suck so bad that it's good.  Hopefully, it has the song from the dating scene when they are at the fun land.  Also, where does one come across Booty Mix Volume 3?  I'm sure that they were only produced in limited numbers.

I had no idea who Tom Lawless was, so I figured I would hit baseballreference.com and check out his stats.  I'm guessing he's not on the Stl team because he has worse hitting #'s than the pitcher.  In 1987 he batted .080 with 0 homers & 0 RBIs.  Wow...

However, us Cardinal fans will never forget the glorious moment in game 4 of the 1987 world series when Tom "Don't call me Selleck" Lawless crushed a three run dong off of Frank Viola.  It was only the second homerun of his career.  The cocksucker Twins ended up winning the series, but I am convinced that Viola was never the same after his run-in with the ruthless Tom Lawless.  This is indeed why the majority of the American public has come to the conclusion that Tom Lawless rules.  And another thing, don't underestimate Steve Lake, he's been known to go yard in crucial situations.

Thanks for the  rundown on Tom Lawless...  Given that stellar clutch history, there's no doubt he would have been a great pinch hitter in RBI...

Karate Kid soundtrack definitely has the campy "so bad it's good" factor going for it.  Ditto with the Vision Quest soundtrack, though we haven't heard it since I moved (only have it on Vinyl).  They have the dating song on there, but for some reason don't have Bananarama's "Cruel Summer" which was by far the most popular song in that movie.  And good luck finding it, we had to get it off EBay.  It was only released on CD in Australia and Canada for some reason...

Booty Mix vol3 won't be easy to find, but you can probably hunt it down at a used CD store...

Gantry, go to www.allmusic.com.  They have all kinds of bullshit on that site.  The Karate Kid soundtrack is for sale on CD for $14.99.  This is obviously too good of a deal to pass up.  If it isn't at Circuit City, I do believe that I will be tempted to order this magnificent album.  I've heard it ranks up there with Abbey Road!  Eat your heart out Lennon!

allmusic is a great site, I check it out all the time...  They don't actually sell CDs themselves, but feed it to cdnow.com.  Doing a quick search, I found they have the Karate Kid soundtrack for $11.49.  Given that it is an import, you aren't gonna find it at Circuit City...

i like to play to stairway to heaven...  kindof a laid back approach to the game we all love.

another good band to listen to while playing rbi is godsmack.

Great call on the Tom Lawless World Series memory, that's some serious knowledge of the '87 Cards.  That reminds me, would Rey Quinones be the Boston shortstop on RBI if the Red Sox hadn't made the midseason trade to Seattle for Spike Owen and Hindu?? My guess is probably...then again, Donnie Moore might've still been around to experience RBI Baseball first-hand, too.

As for musical choices during a game of RBI, Green Day and Rancid are outstanding Bay Area groups (as well as Metallica)...but, for some reason, The Rocky Story and Vision Quest soundtrack & Def Leppard's Pyromania always get a lot of play, as well as Survivor's greatest hits (why, I'm not sure) - when it's a pivotal, alcohol-free game.  I had a buddy who would throw on Men at Work, Great White, Rodney O & Joe Cooley, and the occasional Kool and the Gang before matching up...but he was a little out there.  Green Day's Dookie may be the best RBI disc of all time.

Basically, I'll listen to anything but the RBI music...which might drive a person clinically insane.

For the record, I love the RBI music.  Nothing better than the runners-on-base tune.

I ordered the Karate Kid Soundtrack through Steetside Records a couple of days ago.  I can't wait to crank it up loud when playing RBI.  This may change the way the game is played in these parts forever!  I will hold my head high when I enter the record store to pick up this special order!  There will be no mercy in this dojo!

we usually stick with plain rbi music or the onslaught of my roomates playing guitars constantly here as our music for rbi....but i think that if i were to have a song, and im not sure if we could come across this, it would have to be "win in the end" from the teen wolf movie...when they are making the comback against the dragons....is there a more emotional moment in movie history?
A couple of jesters? In the court of the king! IS THAT WHAT YOU'RE TELLING ME?!?!?!?

that one would rival karate kid's "the best around" but we already know where that song rates on this forum...

pink floyd is always nice music for rbi...  especially the dark side of the moon.

I have converted to the RBI music for curves, while leaving the stereo on for straight-pitch.   It's easier on the batter in curves to leave the RBI sounds, and since we suck so badly at the plate, it's a must for now...

Just play the RBI music soft, and and play what you want in the background, RBI music just so you can hear it will work.

Good plan, but we always crank the stereo.  We'd never hear the RBI music...
