In earlier posts you guys were talking about how throwing to home instead of to 2nd base makes stealing bases almost impossible for everyone besides Vince Coleman and Tim Raines.  I tested out this theory the other day, and while it did seem to be slightly faster than a straight throw to 2nd, it also seemed to me that any player with and A rating in speed would be able to steal on ya.  We were able to get SBs with Coleman, OSmith and Herr, and Pendelton got out but it was a close play.

It all boils down to hitting the direction and the A button at the same time.  Do you ever throw out slow lefties on a base hit to right?  If you don't, then you aren't getting a quick enough throw....

Also, you don't use the pitcher as a cutoff man on a stolen base, do ya?  If so, then don't...   Perhaps I'll make a small video of it one day...

No I definately don't cut off the throw to 2nd.  I'll try to work on my timing as far as the throw goes.  I didn't know that that really made a difference.

timing is crucial... and it has to be quick...  the less time you have your fingers on the keys the faster the throw...  if you do this, you will even be able to get raines and coleman once in a while... everyone else will be out by a mile... besides, on the close plays, they wont slide... another oversight by the programmers.

Sometimes it works, sometimes not.  Today i was trying it out and i threw out coleman stealing second.  Then ozzie stole second with easily.

Does sliding really help?  It seems to me that sometimes the players slow down when they slide.

in my opinion, i think there are times that if the runner were to slide at second he would be safe... this is only for the faster runners...  slow runners probably do slide slower than they run.

BUMP: I would just like to brag here that I threw out Vince Coleman stealing second using the quick-throw-home trick at the Omaha RBI tournament, easily the moment that most impressed any of my opponents.
