I think I'll start it this week, I was planning on waiting until I wrote some gaming scoring program to track stats, but realize that isn't going to happen and that scoring each game would take too long anyhow. So I'll just go same format as the NES season with 4 games against each team and I'll post recaps for each group of 5 games, and maybe I'll post video of the best game.
I'll use the ROM we used for the cartridge with BOPs and normal NES gameplay so 10 run rule will apply only after the end of an inning.
I'm so pumped for this!
Can you add a pole to vote on who will win?
My money's on Atlanta
Puhl added Here are quick approx odds IMO
Oakland 8-1
Atlanta 5-1
Houston 60-1
St. Louis 25-1
Chicago 10-1
Dodgers 25-1
Giants 4-1
Reds 12-1
RedSox 10-1
Yankees 6-1
i'll take the redsox. do you do a playoff series at the end, or just a regular season champion?
Top 3 to playoffs, 2v3 to see who plays 1 in WS
I'm attaching the ROM to the first post
Going with the Yanks - since it's watch season they probably don't use subs. New York has a stacked lineup and when they do use a sub it'll be Roger Maris. Teams with their best bench players 3rd and 4th on the list will be in trouble...
Atlanta has only two holes in their lineup, Ramirez/Garr, then it's 8 mashers and Adcock on the bench.
It's all about the ATL.
I want the cardinals....in watch mode anything goes.
Adcock is first off the bench as well, which is huge... Good pick, though I'm sticking with the Yankees...
fantasy Arcade RBI season, anyone?
I'm down like Julie Brown, assuming I have to do none of the work after drafting...

Week 1 Games (The Cincy/St. Louis game is game of the week and movie is attached, summary to come later):
Oak 12 Hou 3
Vida Blue pitched a complete game shutting down Houston's horrible offense.
Atl 14 Bos 4 3 inn
The Braves showed what their offense can do hitting 5 HRs in 3 inning (Murphy, Aaron, Torre, and Matthews(2)) to destroy the RedSox
SF 15 ChC 7
Down 7-5 in the 6th, the Giants scored 10 runs over the next 2 innings thanks to HRs by Cepeda, Mays, McCovey, and Ott. Jody Davis and Billy Williams homered for the Cubs
LA 12 NYY 11
Ford and Koufax both pitched well as the game was tied at 2 after 4. A 2 run PH Hr by Maris in the bottom 7th gave the Yanks a 5-4 lead, but a 3 run shot by Guerrero in the 8th put the Dodgers up 8-5, and pulled ahead 12-5 before the Yanks scored 6 with 2 outs in the 9th, capped by a 3 run shot by DiMaggio to make if tight.
Cin 19 SL 17
Tony Perez and George Foster each had 3 run HRs as Cincy recovered from a 4 run first by the Cards taking a 15-7 lead, but St. Louis tied it thanks to A Musial Grand Slam, but a 2 run PH HR by Hank Groh and bad baserunning by the Cards in the 9th were the deciding factors. Jack Clark had 3 HRs for the Cards.
St Louis is powerful..doing some arcade watch gaming my self and STL is taking it to the Yanks...5-1 thru 5 innings. Brock, Hornsby, and Musial have all gone yard.
Edit
The cards take it 12-6. 4 homers for each club as hack a jack adds one. trailing 10-1 the yanks get blasts from gehrig and mantle to have a glimmer of hope in the 7th, but the 8 doubles and 2 triples by STL are too much to overcome.
Game 2. NY used both starters, but STL still has tudor. Brock beats out a grounder to shortstop and Hornsby cranks out a 2 run shot in the 1st and the cards are up early again.
In the 4th Ruth and Mantle go yard. Top 5 and Brock leads off with a triple, and Clark brings him in with a 2 run shot. all tied up at 4.
Back to back to back shots by Musial, Clark, and Boyer(??) blow the game wide open, and ST louis takes A 7-4 LEAD INTO THE BOTTOM OF THE 7TH. Ruth and mantle respond with back to back homers and NY leads 8-7 thru 7.
top 8th Hornsby goes yard again, and STL leads 9-8. Scoreless bottom for NY. Mcgee and medwick get PH rbi's and Brock sac fly drives in another. 12-8 heading to the bottom of the 9th. Rizuto due up. Gehrig homer is all they get. STL wins 12-9. Card keep even w/ homers at 6 for the game and 10 for the series. STL leads 2-0.
Game 3. Musial shot gives the card 2 runs in the 1st.
didnt watch much of this game but shots my maris and lazzeri pull ny with in 1 the 7th with stl leading 9-8. However the cards score 3 more and lead 12-8 heading to the bottom of the 8th. dimmagio homers....STL goes scoreless in the 9th, and holds on for the 12-10 win, and a 3-0 lead. finally NY outhomers STL (4-2), but the cards rack up more doubles and triples.
Game 4 Yanks use a late power surge to take game 4 12-11. Game 5. NY is smoking STL 10-5 in the 8th, but a 2 out rally and a 3 run hornsby shot and its 10-9. back to back double by Musial and Clark tie it up. STL'sd big 3 have been huge this series. However a Ruth rbi, and a Mantle 3 run shot seal it for the yanks...14-10. :( STL leads 3-2.
Its all fkn over with. NY leads 17-11 bottom of the 8th in Game 6. they will win this and game 7 and defeat the lowly birds. im going to end it all now and go to bed. >:(
I added the Stl Cincy recap and I guess I just start posting all 5 games at once, I'll only post a video if something significant happens like pitcher HR.
Week 2:
Oak 14 Atl 4 (6 inn)

HRs: Santo, Perez(2), Banks (2), Foster(3), Bench(2)
SF 19 LA 17
The Giants scored 8 in the 5th to take a 14-8 lead and led 16-10 with 2 outs in the 8th when Lopes hit a 2 run PH HR and Willie Mays went on to make a rare error to allow 3 more uneaned runs to score as LA cut it to 16-15, but that's as close as it got as SF added 3 in the bottom of the 8th.
HRs: Dark, J. Robinson (2), Cey, Mays(2), McCovey, Guerrero, Bonds, Lopes
Houston sucks...
---Week 3 After 3 games, already no undefeated teams left
SL 13 Oak 12
Vida Blue got rocked as STL jumped out to a 13-4 lead after 5, and it could have been worse as they left a ton of guys on base, but Oakland cut it to 13-12 in the 7th capped by a 3 run HR by Gene Tenace, but Oakland failed to generate any more offense and that's how it ended.
HRs: Hornsby, McGwire (2), Campeneris, Jackson, Tenace
ATL 21 Hou 10 6 inn
Hou had an offensive outburst with 5 in the top of the first and the it was all ATL
HRs: Watson, Thon(2), Aaron(3), Mathews, Johnson, Murphy(2)

The Cubs score 7 in the top of the 5th to take a 13-6 lead, but the Sox cut it to 15-14 after 6 and scored 7 in the 8th capped by a 3 run PH HR by Tris Speaker to take a 21-17 lead and hold on.
HRs: Wilson(3), Banks, TWilliams(3), Dawson(2), Bwilliams, Speaker
LA 25 Cin 11 (7 inn)
The Dodgers got 10 in the 7th without a HR to break the game open.
HRs: Garvey, Snider(2), Perez, Bench, Guerrero, Cey, Robinson
NYY 14 SF 6
The Yankees shut down the Giants offense and Berra had a couple of clutch 3 run HRs.
HRs: Gehrig, Berra(2), Mays, McCovey, Mantle
Ted Williams leads the league with 5 HRs while Aaron, Murphy, McGwire, Mays, Foster, Perez, and DiMaggio each have 4.
---Week 4 - some low scoring games
Chc 9 Oak 2
Gene Tennace broke up the shut out with 2 outs in the 9th with a solo shot (promptly followed by a Joe Rudi HR) in an unbelievable pitching performance by Sutcliffe and Jenkins. Best WATCH pitched game I've ever seen.
HRs: Dawson, Wilson, Tenace, Rudi
SL 10 Hou 6
SL got 5 in the 4th to take a 7-3 lead and never looked back.
HRs: J Clark, G Davis, Brock, Hornsby
Atl 23 NYY 15
The Braves got 3 in the first and 2nd and led start to finish, The Yanks got 6 in the 8th to cut it to 19-14, but that's as intersting as it got
HRs: Matthews, Johnson (2), Adcock, Murphy, DiMaggio (2), Aaron (2), Gehrig, Mantle, Mattingly, Horner
LA 23 Bos 12 (6 inn)
Each team got 6 in the first, from there Koufax settled in while Tiant did not and the Dodgers rolled.
HRs: Cey(2), Yaz(2), Foxx, Robinson, Williams
Cin 8 SF 7
In a classic pithcer's duel, Mays and McCovey hit back to back homers in the top of the 7th to cut the deficit to 7-5, but Bench answered with a solo shot in the bottom half to extend the lead to 8-5. SF started a rally in the 9th getting doubles from Dark, Mays, and McCovey to cut the lead to 1 with McCovey on 2nd and 1 out but Buorbon got out of the jam to get the save.
HRs: Perez, Mays, McCovey, Bench

The A's finally got going in the 7th, scoring 4 to cut the score to 8-7 but ATL got 4 in the top of the 8th thanks to HRs by Aaron, Mathews, and Johnson to regain a 5 run lead. But a Ramirez BOP on a sure DP ball opened up a big inning for the A's in the bottom half as McGwire followed with a 3 run blast and it was 12-11 ATL going to the 9th. This is quite the slide for Atlanta.
All 1 run losses, they're gonna be fine though, at this point I'd be suprised if they don't finish #1, and I say they are basically guaranteed to make the post season, they are that much better than everyone else.
They are averaging 6 HRs per game, 2nd best is NYY at 4.7 per game, Aaron has only 7 less HRs than the Astros.
Cincy's in 1st, no?
Atlanta's tied with Oakland for second?
I'll post Standings after next set of games, I think Atl, Oak, NYY, and maybe also LA are all tied for 2nd at 7-4 with Cincy in first.

I know what you meant, and yes I simmed that Atl/HOu 46 times until Hou won, also I kept watching a game that was 8-0 Atlanta because I knew Hou would come back and win. If ATL missed the post season I will be more shocked then you, of course I'll wouldn't mind. But trust me if there really was any fix the Yankess and Dodgers would not be ahead of the Braves and the Cubs wouldn't be 5-7.
I was joking and the explanation was to Octo.
Sheesh.
I know you can't be serious, I'm just defending the integrity of the league
I find it interesting that someone who runs a "clean league" would know exactly how to fix games.
Hmmm...

It seems as though the overacheiving Reds are faltering down the stretch, looks like it could come down to the Yanks/Cubs game the 2nd to last week of the season.
The Yanks will pull away by then. What's their head-to-head record?

HR leaders (I wonder what will win the HR crown 30 in 36 games?)
A lot more HRs than I thought, with 2 games to go 11 guys have already hit 30 HRs and 3 are on pace for over 40
Down to the wire.... What is the remaining schedule for the 3/4/5 teams?

The first game of the final week is Yanks at the A's, I'm about to play it. A's are trying to clinch 1st, the Yanks trying to clinch a playoff spot, I'll post video before the recap if anyone wants it. Or maybe I'll do the summaries one game at a time.
I'd seriously watch the video if you post it before 1PM Forum time.
That's how big a loser I am.
Go Yanks!!
Here it is, I assume you know how to watch the video
Here's the other game the matters for the week
---Week 36
NYY 19 Oak 16
The all-time great Yankees just refused to lose. Gehrig and Ruth each had 2 HRs building an early 10-2 lead. The A's fought back cutting it to 10-9, but the Yanks opened up an 18-10 lead, again the A's fought back to 18-16 in the 8th but that was all they had as the Yankees eliminate the Reds from Postseason contention. If the Braves beat the Reds, we will see a postseason rematch between the A's and Yanks in the first round.

Eddie Mathews hit a walk off solo shot to win it with 1 out in the bottom of the 9th, earning the Regular Season Championship and a bye to the World Series.

Here is the regular season excel file I used if you want to see total HRs by everyone.
100 of the 120 non-pitchers hit at least 1 HR (I only counted real HRs not inside the parkers)
77 of the 80 starters hit at least 1 HR (only Chris Brown, Rickey Henderson, and Phil Cavaretta failed)
37 players hit 18 or more HRs (averaged .5 per game) and 6 averaged at least 1 HR per game
Game 1 NYY 14 Oak 3 (6 inn)
The Yanks gained a 1-0 series lead in Oakland Colesium scoring 10 in the 4th to break open a 2-2 tie the big hit being a 3-run shot from Ruth after the bottom of the order had hit a bunch of doubles. The A's offense was pathetic with Bert Campaneris hitting 2 HRs and getting all 3 RBI's.

sorta wavey
I'll format all names to 8 spaces for next game and see if it is better
In a crazy game 2, The A's had a 9-7 lead in the 6th before the Yanks added some runs and led 12-9 going to the 8th where the added 5 more to take a 17-9 lead in the 9th. The A's scored 11 in the top of the 9th, with a 3 run shot by Sal Bando finally giving them a 20-17 lead, but with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th Mantle and Dimaggio hit back to back HRs to tie. The Yogi Berra hit a 2B and Dave Winfield singled to left, but Canseco threw to 3rd base where no one was covering and Berra came in to score the series winning run. NYY 21 Oak 20, so it's the Yanks and the Braves in the World Series.

sounds like a crazy ending to that one
Fkn Canseco. It would have been more appropriate if he would have Bopped the ball over the wall for a series-ending HR.
Game 1 of the WS today, to add to the great excitement, I'll update this post with inning by inning summaries since I'm sure most of the world wants to follow the game, game to start at around 1:20 or so Forum time
will you have a spanish simulcast?
Will it be presented in Dee-Nee HD?
will you break in to your coverage of the ws to show barry bonds' at bats?
The Yanks jump out to a 3-0 lead after 1 thanks to back-to-back HRs by Gehrig and Ruth, the Braves managed only 1 hit in the bottom of the first.
Yogi Berra led of the top of the 2nd with a solo shot, followed by singles from Nettles and Ford, Lazzeri then hit a double and Dale Murphy's throw got past the catcher Nettles and Lazzeri scored. Gehrig and Ruth hit doubles to score a 5th run and the Braves offense failed to produce again as the Braves are now in big trouble down 8-0.
The Yanks got 2 in the 3rd from a 2 out 2 run shot by Lazzeri and the Braves went down 1-2-3 in the 3rd. Game Over 10-0 Yanks who take a 1-0 lead in this best of 5 series.
is baseball tonight next?
Yankees, WHAT!?!?
Game 2 today with inning by inning updates starting at about 12:30 CST
I hope this game isn't fixed to maximize gate receipts like the first.
The Yanks got 1 in the top of the first, Lazzeri had a lead off double, Gehrig singled and Ruth got an RBI groundout. The Braves answered with 1 thanks to singles from Garr, Aaron and Mathews.
1-1 after 1
Berra led off the 2nd with a solo HR, then Nettles singled, followed by RBI triples from Ford and Lazzeri, Gehrigs single drove in Lazzeri, giving the Yanks a 4 run 2nd. The Braves got nothing in the 2nd.
5-1 Yanks after 2
Spahn finally threw his first scoreless inning of the series and Dale Murphy hit a 2 run shot to cut the lead to 2.
5-3 Yanks after 3
The Yanks added 1 with a 2 out solo shot by Gehrig, the Braves answered with a double from Johnson followed by singles from Adcock, Garr, Murphy, and Aaron to get 3, but it could have been more if Garr wasn't thrown out at the plate and Torre didn't strand Aaron and Mathews at 2nd and 3rd.
6-6 after 4
Maris popped out to end the 5th with runners on 2nd and 3rd so the Yanks failed to score, the Braves got 1 on a solo shot from Bob Horner
7-6 Braves after 5
After Neikro retired the first 2 in the 6th, Gehrig and Ruth singled, followed by a Mantle 3 run HR and a DiMaggio solo shot. Then Berra double and Nettles single, then Guidry hit a 2 RBI triple and Lazzeri hit a 2 run HR. Then Rizzuto tripled, Gehrig singled to drive him in and Ruth hit a 2 run HR before Mantle finally lined out, the Yanks scored 11 all after 2 were out. In the bottom of the 6th Murphy and Aaron single, but they were still at first and second with 2 out and the game on the line, but Horner and Johnson both double to extend the game.
17-10 Yanks after 6
DiMaggio hit a solo shot in the 7th as the Yanks tacked on a run and the Braves couldn't capitalize on Ramirez's lead off double
18-10 Yanks after 7
The Yanks got 2 in the 8th as Lazzeri, Rizzuto, and Mantle all doubled to again pull ahead by 10 with a chance to end the game. And end it they did as Torre grounded in to a DP to end an 0-5 game, debate his coaching you may but he certainly has been an unclutch batter in this series.
FINAL Yanks 20 Braves 10 8 innings
The overhyped WS ended toay as the Yanks won game 3 12-2 in 6 innings. Whitey Ford again shut down the Brave offense who scored both their runs on ground outs. The Braves who average almost 6 HRs a game during the regular season managed just 2 total for the series. The long bye must have really hurt the Braves
The Yanks have become the 2nd straight watch season champ to finsh 3rd during the regular season, so the wild cards continue to prevail.
Full Series Box score plus WS MVP awards to come later
i knew it! joe torre is a great manager and this is proof!
was Torre managing both teams?
Whitey Ford and Tony Lazzeri were named co-WS MVPs

Joe Torre: 1-9 in the series. Maybe he's a great manager, but apparently he's a shitty Arcade RBI player.

He really sucked ass, poping up with 2 on and 2 out a few times, Mr. Unclutch after he had a solid regular season. It seemed like someone turned up the Braves ground ball attribute for the series.
Or maybe the Braves simply realized that they are the Braves and that was the playoffs. You shouldn't have had Bobby Cox be the manager.
