Signing on to be the Padres hitting coach is a losing propostion, isn't it?  Between that park and that lineup, getting them up to 13th in the NL would probably make you look like a genius.

Nothing else that I remember.  Pretty sure he helped out in spring training but that was really about it.

but seriously folks, hitting coach is one of those very strange baseball coaching positions, almost as mysterious as bullpen coach.  how much do you really make an impact or have to do if you're in this job?

I guess it depends on the team, a group of guys like the Yankees the hitting coach doesn't really matter, but a team like the Twins it certainly does.

But overall I'd say the minor league hitting instructor is probably much more important than the average major league hitting coach.
