Yeah, my plan is to just get base ratings using MLBDepthCharts.com.  The problem with that is some players are on the DL, and it's a CURRENT snapshot as opposed to a season representation. I've been trying to make sure I look at the DL and keep regular players in the lineup but it's a lot of work and I'm not perfect.  Plus I started this late, so we're into 2012 already and these stats are based off of 2011 results.

So, I'll post what I have, and then you guys can pick it apart, tweak it, etc.  I've been really going slow the last few weeks because my house is a fucking zoo and finding free-time has been tough.  That being said, I am committed to getting it done because I love the game so much, I believe we need a yearly edition.

Your help is greatly appreciated, jonneygee, so when I post my results, feel free to give your go at the rangers...

I can't seem to find any damn time to get this thing done.  If I don't get it done soon, maybe I'll wait until the season is over and put out an end-of-season ROM.  That should help when 2013 comes along and I'll ahve the ratings already done, just needing to move players to their new teams.

If you remember my discussions about hitting grounders/popups pressing up or down a while back, what stemmed from that was a question on whether we could use that knowledge to create a hitter who gets on base/hits for average but doesn't have power.  Previously, the only way to create a player like that is to give him a power of around 830 and just let him hit a few dingers...it works, but it's not the best.

So I got a new hack in place from my hacker buddy...basically for each player there's an unused byte that never gets loaded in the game.  He took that byte and added some code to make it useful. Here's what he said:

Each batters empty byte determines the chance to change the deep balls to grounders.  xFF is grounder the most to x00 is grounder the least (same as the original game).

I set Arizona to xFF for all its batters, Atlanta to xF6, ... to Washington x00.

I have a ROM that he sent me and I updated the Arizona batters to be 900 power and 850 power respectively, and both batters were able to hit balls into the gaps and rarely if ever lifted it in the air.  I need to find a good power threshold for this, but it seems that this hack might let us create the Joe Mauers of the world.

I'll be sure to incorporate this into the 2012 end of season ROM.  Pretty neat, huh?

Yes.  There was a setting, I believe in RBI Manager called a "ground ball attribute".  I don't know if thats the same thing.  Most were under the impression that it didn't work.

No no, it's not THAT groundball attribute.  I think that the old gb attribute was just the second byte of the power number...THIS is a brand new hack that my pal wrote that basically lets you give a guy high power but greatly reduces his ability to hit flyballs.  That way a high average low power guy can hit through the gaps and get on base easier without knocking balls out of the park.

Gantry

That's pretty damn sweet...

Yeah, it kind of is.  I've updated my editor so that you can set a player as Weak or Normal for power.  Weak power makes their GB attribute true.

As I said about not being able to get this done right now, my plan at this point is to release a ROM after the season is over, utilizing this attribute, with the new Marlins and Blue Jays logo.  So, the 2012 ROM will be a post-season thing...then when 2013 rolls around, it'll be very easy to just make the roster moves because the ratings will already be done.
