1. My buddy setup a hack for the 30-Team ROM to allow for switch hitters.  So we got that going for us, which is nice.
2. He's getting me some save state information so that actual individual stats might be calculated as the game is going on.

Stay tuned.

Gantry

Holy shit, that would be pretty sweet

Turd

The switch hitter hack is confirmed...he tested it and sent me a ROM.  The stat thing will take some work.  Basically, it'd be something that ran in the background and consistently read the save state for changes in information, creating a log of things that happened...the whole setup won't be exactly ideal, but for people who care, it will be interesting and fun.

The switch hitter thing was something that I think the game needed, and it doesn't really change the game all that much.

That's what's up. That's a good look.

Will it be automatic for instacne batting right vs LHP and batting left vs RHP. Or will it be manual allowing the player to decide? Reason I ask depending on certain pitchers I may pull an Alomar and bat left handed vs a southpaw (like he did vs. Jim Abott for eg.).

Turd

It uses the handedness of the pitcher and automatically switches the batter to the other side...works if the pitcher gets changed mid AB, or if a pinch hitter comes in, etc.  So, to answer your questions, it's automatic.   The best part is that the editor will only change slightly...currently, it's 0 for R, 1 for L, and a new one, 2, for S.  Very cool little addition.

A while back I had someone working on some amazing additions, but I sincerely think something bad happened to him because he dropped off the earth mid-discussions.  Maybe there will be more hacks along the way, but for now, these are my focus.

I updated the ROM to have Miami's uniforms...working with the existing teams, it's tough to get a good one.  I ended up with orange jersey with blue helmet/bat.  Best I could do...

Turd

I got all the save state info for what's currently happening in a game...now I can write something that constantly checks the state and creates a play-by-play.

TβG

that's very cool.

my requested hack is for a lower speed number to be able to steal (computer controlled), i don't know if you remember that from a couple years ago...

TBG, we found that hack a while back (there's a thread on this).  I have the info to do this hack in my notes...it's very easy to do.

TβG

well you guys are doing excellent work.  any and all hacks are appreciated.

i'm very much looking forward to the next fantasy season if/when that comes together.

Turd

What do you think is a good min steal value? It's 144 by default, and then if steal is > 143, there's a 50% chance they'll steal.

TβG

i know we discussed it in that thread.  i think we maybe said 140. i'm not gonna look for the thread tonight thoguh.

I've got 17 more teams to give ratings for their 1-12 guys...I've been hitting a few a day.

When I'm done, I'll post them here and the team experts can offer suggestions, make changes, etc.

Mostly what will help me a lot is pitchers...I'll have the 4 pitchers from each team listed.  It'd be nice if people could offer a pitcher from the original game that they feel best represents the player (just curve values).  So Verlander would get the best pitcher curve values from the original ROM...these original ROM players can be used more than once, but it's an easy way to apply ratings to pitchers which is the most difficult part of rating a ROM.

This is probably the easiest way to get pitchers rated.  If we need to tweak from that formula, we can...

TβG

Angels

Weaver = Gooden
CJWlsn = MScott
Jepsen = Reardn
Walden = Worell

#73
Kershaw, LA - great curve left 11-12, mid 90's fastball (John Tudor with more velocity)
Rivera, NY - great curve right (10-11), low 90's fastball, excellent stamina maybe 18-20
FRodriguez, Mil - good curve and change (disparity b/w med & fast spd) (Bedrosian)
Halladay, Phi - good sinker (drop) and and good curve right - 11(slightly behind Verlander), 93-94mph fast, excellent stamina 54 (see Krukow with more velocity)
Verlander, Det -great curve right - 11/12, 100-101 fast, excellent stamina 52 (see Blyleven with more velocity)
Valverde, Det - mid 90's, great split about 12, not great curve (McDowell or Garrelts)
Greinke, Mil - fast about 95-96, slow should be low 70's (maybe high 60's), very good split (drop) -10 and great curve right -10/11, but erratic
Sabathia, NYY - 95mph fast, very good curve left -10, good stamina (Tudor)
Santana, NYM - low-mid 90's fast, great curve right (circle chg) and good curve (see Valenzuela)
Sheilds, TB - (Clemens or Gooden)
CLee, Phi - (Key)
Kimbrell, Atl - (Henke)
GGonzalez, Oak - (Viola)
Hudson, Atl - low 90's (Cox)
Weaver, Ana - (Alexander or Saberhagen)
Romero, Tor - (Ojeda)
FHernandez, Sea - fast 99mph (Saberhagen)
Lincecum, SF - low 90's, 93mph fast (Reuschel)

That's what I got so far hope it helps. If it does and you want/need more I'll keep editing this post (adding players).

I'll try and give a short summary of pitchers abilities and then I'll try to see who matches up with them from the origanal game which I'll put in italics, and I guess you can take it from there.

Turd

The more you add the more it helps.

Turd

Though, technically, I'm looking more for  pitchers from the original game that current day pitchers map to...though the breakdowns on pitchers will be helpful for anyone we don't have a "mapping" for.

Pitchers are the worst part about rating a ROM.  There are tangible things like pitch speed that can be gathered from FanGraphs...but after that, it's difficult.  For starters, just cause a guy has a good curve doesn't mean he's a good pitcher.  But, in RBI, good pitcher = high curve...changing speed works, but with 1SP per game rules, your pitcher gets tired quicker so using fast and slow balls aren't really part of the strategy unless you have an innings eater.

So, you can't just give curve based on curve abilities...when I rate, I rate that the best pitchers get high curve no matter what...it's the best way to translate success into RBI attributes...

thalivest

I updated the list a little, referencing modern pitchers to their RBI counterparts. Just wanted to know if it helps or not. If it does I will try to add whoever I can/know.

Turd

I did a few more teams today, so I'm getting close to being ready to do the pitchers...I'll let you know when I get to that point.

jonneygee

Brand new here (just stumbled on the forum today). I'm a big RBI Baseball fan and I'm pumped to find out that you guys are working on an updated ROM. I don't know much about how the game calculates rankings, but I'd be happy to post rosters with BA, HR, ERA, etc. statistics. I'm a big Rangers fan and don't see them listed here, so I'll be happy to start by posting their lineup!

fathedX

Do it!  Turd has probably already put together a batting lineup for them, but I'm sure he would appreciate a second opinion if so.

Welcome!
