Over the past couple of nights i have been tinkering around with RBI editors and making fun teams and shit.  I created Heaven and Hell teams on my latest version.  The teams are equipped with the best numbers in every category.  Its really fun to play with and try to beat.  But i started thinking..... We are all trying to play god here.  I recently played an online game but was required to use a different ROM, with no teams on it that i liked.  It wasnt the same.  I feel that the original was the best that we have.  I feel that if we keep digging deeper and deeper into the programming and technical issues of the game that we are going to come across something that we dont need to see, (I.E Raiders of the Lost Ark).  I feel that these "unknown values" for the pitchers are probably unknown for a reason.  Movies like Godsend and Butterfly Effect come to mind here also.  If we keep fucking around with this stuff then something real screwed up is bound to happen.  I think that it is great not knowing why a doink happens, or not understanding why a guy has so much power in his first at bat off the bench, or not knowing why a ball that hits halfway up the wall on the foul line goes through the wall.  Not knowing is what made the game so beautiful to me in the first place.  Next thing you know, we are gonna have a way to make some of the players actually look black.  Or we may end up being able to slim these players down.  Its not healthy and I will not partake in anymore of these shinanigens.  I am personally making sure that there is always a safe copy of the original RBI.  and i will play online with nothing else.

Good Luck and RBI Godspeed to you all in your RBI tinkering journeys,
Brock

I also see this customizing stadiums shit down there.... and that is just an RBI sacrilege.  To RBI hell with all of you now that i think about it.

there's something wrong with you, brock.   ;)

Your words are hollow.  A true believer would have taken the next step and blown this place up so that NO ONE could go forward.  Your 'live and let live' schtick tells me you are not strong enough to force your beliefs on others.  You know you want to edit, you know you want it...

Would you like a taste of this apple?

I dont force my beliefs on anyone.  First of all anyone that doesnt believe in what i believe in is ignorant and irrational ;D.  Secondly, why would i want to destroy something that is devoted to RBI ???.  I do believe that you should all try to make the perfect team and then use a normal team, I like STL, and try to beat them complete game style.  Its amazing how hard, nay impossible it is.  Though i did put up a 6 spot against God in one inning.  His 120+ mph heat is nothing, its the 43 mph off speed shit in the dirt that kills me.  I actually swung, reloaded and swung again and got an opposite feild shot with Jack Clark.

RBI editor stats for all Heaven/Hell players.

PS  I dont wanna stop your searches for RBIs greatest secrets, hell i think its fun putting my name in there and making new teams from time to time.  But I cant wait for one of you to open the RBI Lost Arc and then disinegrate.  While i sit here and play the original version... with my Heaven and Hell teams of course. 8)

Briz, can you post the ROM you made with the Great team.

some of us have always believed in the original RBI.

i ascribe to RBI Fundamentalism.

RBI Fundamentalism, a most interesting topic indeed.  This can get quite heady, not sure I'm ready for such a discussion.  I enjoy my pretty little world...

RBI Baseball is only that which is played with the original 10 teams.

Arcade Versions are not mentioned.

Here is my ROM.  Its got my team (Bk) which is me and my buddies, with no stat better or worse than anyone in the original game.  They arent all the highest value either, I was fair with them.  Heaven (Hv) is all perfect.  Hell(Hl) are all perfect too, but there ERAs, BAs and HRs are deceitful.

I love this thread... the first thing I ever did was (while in HS) make the team of my friends in intramural softball and some of the other teams in the league... then slowed down the pitching and upped hitting (slowed runners) to make what I referred to as RBI Softball... as for real attempts at making realistic games w/updated rosters, I think its amazing what some of you guys do.. and it CAN be tons of fun to replay like the 1990 World Series thru RBI... having said that, I too like living in the dark on much of the statistical stuff... I PREFER having my own bogus theories like trying to throw too quick results in an error.. it may be inaccurate, but it is what I grew up on and cant imagine changing.. OF COURSE the runner will come around to score if he gets on in a really heinous error (blatantly dropped pop-up to the pitcher).. i dont wanna think that there is maybe a reason why the pitcher is more likely to drop, or that there is no proof guys bat better after an E (besides maybe more focus by the guy you're playing, to "make the most of the error")... "Ignorance is Bliss," and while I will continue to respect and wonder about much of this stuff myself, I will live happily ever after with my 10 teams compiled of late-80's players with (sometimes) curious abilities... to everyone on the right side of this argument, let's continue to bean other team's pitchers when they are in a groove, let's continue to always pitch to Gary Carter when a DP is possible, but be afraid otherwise, let's continue to sprint in to keep balls in the park (has this been proven?) and go on living the RBI life as the RBI Gods intended... Tengen League players didnt evolve from anything else, and werent meant to further evolve... there is just RBI Baseball, for better or for worse...
Be it Fundamentalists/Creationists/wtvr, count me in...

RBI Science (founded by Nightwulf) versus RBI Religion?

Under religion, we have fundamentalism.

Under science, we have the truth-seekers and myth-busters.

OzzieLongBall

Now what happens when you pit the average "religion" vs "science" player?? Obviously there are great players behind each cause, but who has the better average players?? I'm thinking a "Kasparov vs Deep Blue" showdown..
