Gantry has a list similar to this on his website.  The difference is hopefully what will compel you guys to vote - it is the opinion of the masses.

If it becomes obvious that this post is a failure, I will end it in shame and think of something more pathetic to post.

This is somewhat an extension of my last poll and will influence whether or not I do a poll for an RBI Hall of Fame.

The Ground Rules:

Voting should be based on how well you have done with a particular player.  Voters should have played with every player in each category - (I mean really, how long have you been playing this game)

In a Purist spirit, the All-Star teams are not included.

Voting will be done by positions.

The number of polls used to determine a winner is subject to change, and probably will change.

How is the Winner Determined?
If one player receives more than 15 votes and holds a plurality, voting will close and he will be declared the winner.

This message will be posted, along with any modifications, on each new post throughout this series of polls.

The winners will be posted on a separate post, as well as on this post.

Some of these polls are like Sophie's choice.

Nobody's better than Brookens.
Third best hitter on Detroit behind Evans and Gibson.
You're going down, chainsaw.

This one is very close for me, and perhaps I'm going with Decinces because of my soft spot for Cali.  Dougie can hit it  ton and he's deifnitely the best righty on Cali.  Brookens is a killer as well, but just has some games where he stinks up the yard.  I can't fault anyone for voting for Brookens, but Dougie gets the slight edge for me.  And a better glove to boot, eh Sperling?

RockRaines4life

I have to go with Boggs here, but gave serious thought to Gaetti and Brookens.  For some reason DeStinks never produces for me.  Boggsy is a singles machine who has surprising HR power- he always ends up with 7 to 10 HRs in our 27 game seasons.
What a horrible night to have a curse.

Gantry

Boggs is deifnitely my Achilles Heel and should have warranted mention in my post.  He absolutely destroys me, about 3x as much as anybody else who plays against him.  I hate that bastard so much...

But no run-of-the-mill player kills one person than my Rob Wilfong against Potsie.  I almost feel bad for the guy, my SLG must be about 2.5 against Pots.  It's scary and pretty much defies logic...

Gantry

Leadoff hitter, every time...  I play a mean Roberto, nobody likes it when he's up...

RockRaines4life

Each team plays the other 9 teams three times each (we use All Stars).  My roommate and I alternate who gets to be each team.  Top three teams in each league go to the playoffs, with the first place teams getting a bye to the second round.  We play curve pitch and there's actually a lot of parity- no team has gone better than 19-8.
What a horrible night to have a curse.

Sperling

I've got to go with the Magic Moustache.

For whatever reason DC has more range and bops less (and I've been the recipient many, many times - thanks for the haunting reminder Gantry).

You won't find a better 8 hitter in the game and that puts him slightly better than DeCinces.

It is true that some games TB will have atrocious games, but Dougie is notorious for hitting into the 6-5-4 DP, making GP's single worthless.

fknmclane

Dougie is the king of DP's.  I can't vote for a guy who ends more innings than the pitcher.

I don't even keep Brookens in the game.  I sub him out immediately for the AL batting champ, Bill Madlock.

Gaetti is pretty damn good.  Lots of power, but again very prone to the inning and buzz ending 6-4-3.

It's hard not to vote for Bogger.  After all, the guy did drink two whole kegs on a cross-country flight.

But I cast the single vote for Terry Pendlesack.  The 1991 MVP and I go way back.  He's a lefty, has some power, his fat ass gets around the bases pretty well, and he always comes through in the clutch.  Terry Pendleton.  Wooo!

I just wiped my ass then smelled the toilet paper.  What's wrong with me?

the dude either has some high float or a mess between the cheeks.

Gantry

Pendleton isn't actually a bad vote, I'd probably put him over Boggs.  A solid player overall, doesn't do anything too terribly.  Unlike most of the guys on this list...

fknmclane

You said it, Gantry.  Pendlesack does everything right.  Never makes mistakes and gives some needed pop in the middle of the underrated Saint Louie lineup.

This one is pretty easy for me...

My Top 3:

1) Gary Gaetti - This guy ROCKS
2) Boggs - Are you kidding me...this guys bat kills me with the almost all righty Boston lineup.
3)Decinces - gets the nod over Brookens

I'd have to say I'm surprised with the results so far - I would have guessed a healthy lead for Brookens but he's only yielded 2 votes.   My personal rankings would probably have Decinces, TB, Boggs and Pendleton over Gaetti and yet he's winning so far.  Admittedly they are all close and I don't play too often with Minnesota.  And I respect the knowledge of my fellow forum posters, so it's a learning experience everyday on the Dee-Nee Forums

I saw a fluke vote for Spike Owen, if I see a similar one for Denny Walling I might have to shut down the boards (smiley)

Baines

I had to go with Dougie on this one.  While I may hate the SOB with a passion, he flat out gets it done every time he comes to the plate against me.

Gaetti would have to be a close due to his power followed by Brookens, one of the most underrated players on the game.  I would go with TB for #1 if it wasn't for the fact that once he hits a HR for me, it seems like he's content to not do a damn thing for the rest of the game.

As for Boggs, I'd like to take a plane trip with him some time but the only thing he does consistently for me on RBI is hit into DP's.

Baines may have hit a homer with Baines, yelled Baines and immediately changed into a Baines jersey.

You know who's the best? Baines...

rastein

I had to go with Brookens just because he's the most deadly 8 hole hitter in the game...that is if you don't count pinchhitting Armas for Owen.
As Alan Trammel Goes.....So Go the Tigers.

IMO, I'm gonna have to compare a Detroit fan voting for Brookens to a Boston fan voting for Owen.

I don't know if there's a connection in the voting, but just because the team is good, doesn't mean all of the players are.

Devildog, I'm starting to question your RBI knowledge with posts like that.  Brookens is the best 8 hitter in the game and is good for 1 or 2 hr's a game.  He's my favorite Dteroit player. (not the best, just my favorite)
You're going down, chainsaw.

fknmclane

Alright DvlDog!  I guess I'm not the only one who gets Brookens the fuck out of there.
