An interesting article from the Los Angeles Downtown News about Nando's Mexican League pitching career, inclduing his current time with the Aguilas. Also quoted is current Aguilas hitting coach Kevin "Gato Killer" Mitchell.

there are also folks complaining about the lack of Bobby Grich, Dwight Evans, and Willie Randolph.

I just find it hilarious that Kevin Mitchell is their hitting coach. I can just imagine him down in Mexico....I am sure it's all G rated fun.

No shit.  Cat Fancy is probably a kid in a candy store down there.  Really, it's only fitting.

Gantry

Not a bad year:

"In 10 starts, Valenzuela wound up 4-2, giving up 32 runs on 66 hits in 56 1/3 innings and an earned run average of 4.30. At home, he was 4-1 with an ERA of 3.89. He tied for second on the team in wins."

Now I'm wonder where I should put Fernando on the WATN - under a new Still Playing, non-MLB or in the existing Still Playing, Sort Of category.  The Sort of categories feature guys who play semi-pro ball and Fernando is facing much tougher competition than that (Mitchell said in the article it's tougher than the AAA equivilant Mexican summer league).  Or am I being too technical?

Notice also how the article mentioned how the Aguilars went into a hitting slump in the second half and fired their manager.  Did mitchell come in before or after that hire?
