Blank Morris turns 45 today

I don't have much experience with Morris, sadly - I didn't use subs often when I played growing up, so Morris didn't play often enough for me to recognize his skills.  Still, let us take some time today to recognize one of the only published authors in RBI who probably wrote his own book.

I NEVER start Morris for the reason that he sucks ass. But yes, he did get a book published and he is a member of the RBI mafia so he deserves respect.

Blank Morris is the goods fools, especially for that team.  His 807 power is topped only by Jack Clark and Jim Lindeman on Stl (tied with Pena) and he's a lefty.  Anyone that leaves Ford or Herr in (not counting nightwulf) and keeps Morris on the bench is a fool....

I usually leave Herr in (I like the speed, and I've had good results with him), but after looking at the ratings, I'm going to have to give Morris a try in the 3 hole.  Actually, if I'm going to take Herr out, it makes more sense to put Lindeman there so he gets some protection.

I can see that, I just love keeping the top of the SL lineup all lefties.  Maybe if Vince or Ozzie got on base leading off the 1st I'll put Lindeman in to bat 3rd, but this doesn't happen as often as one would like.

And agreed on the double ear-flaps.  Anyone still use those today?

I agree with Octo - it seems like Lindeman should bat 3rd on that team but I like have a lefty trifecta for the lefty hit purposes.  Coleman and Smith are almost always on first, so having lindeman there increases the amount of double-plays for Stl.  And if Lindeman doesn't do it, then you know Jack Clark will...

Stock plays "batting practice" style straight pitch - not only do the pitches have to be straight, but the pitcher also can't vary pitch speed or move on the mound.  It makes power more important than in other styles, even Dee-Nee style straight pitch.

Still, though, in that style, I'd think Ozzie and Coleman would be almost guaranteed baserunners every time up (since you can properly time the Pettis and/or Lefty Hit), so the slight power advantage from leaving Herr in may not produce many extra runs.

I believe that I hit more pop-ups with coleman than any other player on the game (making the pettis a pointless ploy).  Plus, since he has more power than pettis, the grounders are faster, making it more difficult to pull off the pettis.
