Well me and Burnzky got a game of RBI in tonight, its been about 2 weeks since anyone has played, everyone has been busy lately, no titles have changed hands in awhile, things need to change, I'm thinking about a mandatory RBI night, once a week thats all I ask. It may take time, but someday it will happen, kind of like a poker night. Someday!!!  Anyone else have a night they set aside just for RBI.

Anyway Aaron scraped out a big V taking my Detroit boys down with Boston. I was down by 1 in the ninth, with 1st and 3rd, no outs. Lemon looked at strike 3 on the corner, and then Sweet Lou fuckin grounded into a double play to end a game. I was thinking at least I was going to tie it up.

Wednesday nights are the RBI night around here, we typically get 3-5 games in.  A few games will happen on other days (notably weekends), but wednesday is the only day we play consistently...

we dont have a set night...but we are entrenched in a series now...t is up 2-1 using hte california angels over the san fran giants....unfoundly, t refuses to put in wilfong and leaves gary pettis in the game...this will be his downfall....spillman has a homer, but has not been his usual terror...this series is one full of mistakes on both sides and could easily be 2-1 me or 3-0 for either of us...whoever gets their a game going first will be the victor.......

Lipitz has that same problem with Pettis, that guy is a scroat.  Wilfong is the man at leadoff...

Don't worry about Spilman, he'll come through for ya...

New round of games tonight, lets hope we can slow down the Potsie Train...

one of the better series we've played just came to a close yesterday....the aforementioned california-san fran series....a recap

t was up 2-1 (cali) as we strolled into game 4...another strong performance by mr sutton and timely hitting by potatoes leads t to a victory, and one step away from a series win....however, in game 5 krukow shuts out the angels 4-0 and takes the series back to san fran for game six....

game six....an early power birage from the candy man and will clark give san fran a 2-0 lead in the second...however, it will not last...big daddy rick ruschel did not bring his A game and he was victimized by two potatoes and two wilfong homers, added on a shot by wally joyner to put him in a 6-2 hole....such comments were fired across as "you can feel the excitement building in the california dugout"...and "game over" after potatoes second 2 run shot went out....this only served to fire up the giants...in the bottom of the 6th they storm back into the game following hits by yngbld, spier and mitchell and a two run shot by jeff leanord to get to within one....we move to the top of the 9th...scotty grelts comes into slam the door...and donnie moore is subbed in to pitch to the giants in the ninth...with a one run lead....lenoard grounds out to second...candy man drives a shot to the gap...and on the 2nd pitch he sees, mr will clark puts on into the right field bleachers for a game winning, series tying homerun that t cannot believe...dumbfounded, he never recovers...a 2 run shot in the 5th innning of game seven by bobby brenly is all krukow and co. needed as the san fransisco giants come out of nowhere to win 3 straight games and upset the california angels...it was RBI at its best

Ha oh my goodness, we play RBI every single day.  I personally played about 8 games today, and I'd wager that the total number of games played in the room was around 30.  We don't mess around with our RBI here.  We play seven games series in a sitting, and I have never seen a controller thrown as far as the last time McBride hit into a triple play.  ;D

bban - Man, you figure t would learn to stop talking smack before the game is done with.  Starting to feel bad for him, he always comes so close....

ALarge - Wow, 8 games in a day?  That is certainly impressive..  Noticed the utk email address, you play in a dorm?  How many in the crew? FYI - The best athlete ever to come from our high school was Tamika Catchings...

i actually put the smack away for the first four or so games, but couldn't help myself when vistory was at hand - which it eventually was not. i really felt like this one was in the bag. there were some fielding errors made in key situations by my middle infield that ultimately let sf back into the series - bban failed to mention these. schofield failed to turn a double play in successive opportunities - making an error on the second chance. it just deflated the team. and, yeah, pettis sucks. i know that now. his speed at the top of the order was what tempted me to play him - until i realized he NEVER FUCKIN GETS ON BASE. and who needs him when wilfong can just hit it out anyway.

i'm soul-searching now. perhaps i'll go back to my beloved cardinals.

Ye, we play quite a bit here in the dorm, actually there's a lesson taking place right now as, true to life, the Miracle Mets are stomping the Bo Sox.  There's about 7 or 8 of us that play regularly, and the wall is covered with stats, w/l records, and quotes from each of us.  Ah, RBI... the great equalizer.

Sounds like a great dorm room, plenty of rbi being played, thats the way to go.

That's a quality collection of RBI'ers you have out there in TN.  Be sure to keep us informed....

No matter how tempting it is to lay down the smack t, you have to keep it in.  You're time will come, keep on swingin'

ALarge, all I can say is...wow.  I am certainly envious of your RBI get togethers.  We could never find that many players.  Are all the games good competition?  What I mean is, are all of yall around the same skill level?  I am dumbfounded here.

I'd say that about 4 of us - myself, McBride, Barak, and Hunter form the upper tier; most of our games are usually decided by 2 runs or less, depending on the teams (we pick randomly for each game).  Then Fink and the Goose, who don't play quite as often, and then we have all the girls, who for all intents and purposes do well not to get slaughtered.  As for the 6 main players (plus a couple of guys who come up from Clemson occasionally) though, we keep it pretty close, with most of us only a few games above or below .500.  As a point of interest, we play curve pitch, only one starter, and the games usually end up about 5-3 or so with the occasional blowout and increasingly rare slaughter.

Ain't it 4:30 AM where you are right now?  Your point of interest is true.  We play the same way.  1 starter, curve style, low scoring games, series (only 3 or 4 games though), although we have played the 7 gamers before.  Note to Death: Me and Stu have a new drinking to rule, but it only applies to the NL teams.  We'll drink a social to "National League Baseball".  In other words, good defense, a low score, good pitching, these will all become a social.  If one of us looks up and the score is 2-1 in the 7th or something, we'll yell "National League Baseball!"  and drink.  Needless to say, low scoring games get us quite drunk.

It seems that a lot of people use the "1 starter" rule when playing curve-style.  Are there any people who still use two pitchers?

Also, does anyone actually play a series where you don't reset between games?

Like that social Dill....

Dill

We never hit reset between games during a series.  That would just kill all the momentum.  There is one way that we use two starters during a series.  Say there is a 3 game series and you are playing with a bad team.  You somehow win the first game.  Sometimes we will start a reliever in the second game, then use only the other reliever.  Now, for the last game, you have at your disposal a full pitching staff.  Just like in the 7th game of the World Series, any pitcher is game to go in for an inning or two, a la Randy Johnson.  That is the only way 2 starters is justified.  This works best with SF with Garrelts starting and going for 6 innings.

My friends and I have always played with all pitchers and curve pitching.  Also we usually don't use boston, detroit, AL and NL all stars because those teams give an unfair advantage over the other teams.

now that is a truly socialist approach to rbi...  eliminate the elites and let the bottom feeders compete.
Strange things are afoot at the Circle K

GDavis? Is that you Glenn Davis?  It must be.  You get rid of the elites just so you have to play with the Astros every game.  It must suck to hit with yourself, being the cleanup hitter, and never producing.  Seriously, it is too much fun playing with the big guns.  Generally, the middles of the orders hit about the same, so the game is won and lost by the bottom third of the order.  If the 6-7-8 hitters are on their game (i.e. Brookens) then that team is going to win.

It does suck to hit with myself, indeed.  As for the rest of the 'stros, the have really good team speed and a good pitching staff, so they can pull off a win against any of the elites if Ryan is on his game.  He has no-hitter type stuff.
