Hi everybody.

I'm a reporter for the Chicago Tribune and would like to do a story on the continuing popularity of RBI Baseball. If you live in the Chicago area and are involved in an RBI league, I'd like to talk to you. Thanks for your time.

Also, if this is serious, the entire article should be written about Gantry.

This whole site is dedicated to Chicago area RBI'ers.

hey pat,

gantry is your man.  not only does he run this site, but he finished 3rd in the national rbi championships this year in columbus ohio, and invented the rbi drinking game

PatK

Yep, seriously -- provided there are enough Chicago-area players. And if Gantry is from Chicago, I guess I came to the right place.

you should also interview the management team at the Airport Comfort Suites in Columbus.

But seriously Gantry is your man. Defnitly hottest player in 2007.
What do you got there, the 4 volt? I did you a favor.

Mike Beales would also be a good guy to talk interview...well as long as gantry still gets a write up.    however beales lacks charisma, and also lacks foul body odor.

I feel like such an outcast...I haven't even played RBI in a few years

I don't know that there are much for ongoing leagues, at least not among members of this forum (other than the RBI Fantasy League), but Mike Beales and Gantry Zettler would definitely be important guys to talk to.  Gantry, of course, put this site together, and it's easily the premier RBI Baseball site on the internet, bringing together RBI afficionados from all around the world (really - there are active members in Sweden and Canada, and there have been a couple occasional posters from Mexico and Japan).  It attracts not only players but also hackers - if someone is editing the game (updating rosters, changing graphics, etc.), this is one of the first places they go to demonstrate and discuss their work.

Beales stages a national tournament in Chicago every other year, with the next one scheduled for the coming June.  SmokedUBad is his alias on the forum, and the website for his tournament, the RBI Baseball Championship Of The Universe Tournament (COTUT) is at http://www.rbibaseballcotut.com/

if you happen to have any lists in your story, you should definitely include me

Thanks for your help, guys. Any other suggestions are welcome.

I'd say the blowjob RBI is the biggest controversy

Big Hath

I've tried to pull all of our technical discussions about how the game works into this thread which links to several others in the first post

Thanks, Big Hath. I appreciate your help!

I had sent Pat an e-mail earlier, and I thought I'd take the discussion public to get some more input.

Pat had asked me if RBI Baseball was going to be featured on the Wii. As far I know, the main reason it hasn't is the licensing issues ensuing from the Tengen/Nintendo lawsuits in the 1980s. Can anyone confirm that? This is one of the better descriptions I've seen of the lawsuit - if anyone knows more information or a better resource, please post it here.

Also, Pat had mentioned to me that the story was about old school video gaming. I know that TBT is very involved in the Tecmo Bowl universe. TBT - do you know of any Chicago-area players that might be good sources for Pat?

there are also folks complaining about the lack of Bobby Grich, Dwight Evans, and Willie Randolph.

Briznock

I want a copy of the paper when this is printed.

I dont know of any Tecmo Bowl players personally or unpersonally for that matter in chicago.

more than likely there would be a few Tecmo Super Bowl players though.

http://www.knobbe.org/mx/index.php?page=2  Matt Knobbe's site/message board has the most chatter for any version of tecmo bowl.  that would be a good start.  Sort of in the same neck of the woods, but minneapolis has been home to 2(IIRC) national tournaments for TSB.

as for RBI some points that might need to be covered is the 3 variations of the game...anything goes, slurve, and straight pitch.
