Hey, everyone.  I'm looking at starting up a 2007 playoff ROM, per fathed's request.  Quick items:

1) For the AL teams, do I make the DH start at 1B, or just take the top 8 hitters?  For example, if we require positions, Boston would have Lugo in the starting lineup, but with the top 8 strategy, Youkilis would start, Lugo would be on the bench, and there would be no shortstop in the starting lineup.

2) Is it worth the time to give the pitchers hitting stats?  I tentatively vote yes.

3) Roster construction hints appreciated for teams you know well - the team I follow isn't in the playoffs, so lots of this is semi-guesswork based on what I find on baseball-reference.

If nothing else, I'll save this as public so others can work on it.

Playoffs2007 in the RBI Editor - I've loaded in basic team information and rosters/stats (but not ratings) for the Red Sox and Yankees.

8 napoli c
9 pitcher

(i vote for no dh in the lineup per traditional rbi)

bench:
willits

2) Is it worth the time to give the pitchers hitting stats?  I tentatively vote yes.

In the name of Micah Owings, yes it is.

1 - Chris Young - CF
2 - Orlando Hudson - 2B
3 - Eric Byrnes - LF
4 - Conor Jackson - 1B
5 - Mark Reynolds - 3B
6 - Chris Snyder - C
7 - Justin Upton - RF
8 - Stephen Drew - SS
9 - pitcher

Pitchers
Brandon Webb
Micah Owings (just so he can hit)
Brandon Lyon
Jose Valverde

Bench
Tony Clark
Chad Tracy
Miquel Montero
Augie Ojeda

NOTE: Bob Melvin shuffles his lineup...A LOT.  That's the closest to what his most consistent setup is though.  Also, Orlando Hudson is out for the year but started probably 120 games. Chad Tracy is on the bench because otherwise it's probably Jeff Salazar.

The Rocks lineup today is the most common configuration:

Matsui - 2b
Tulowitzski - SS
Holliday - LF
Helton - 1B
Atkins - 3B
Hawpe - RF
Spilbourghs - CF
Torrealba - C

Bench
Sullivan
Carroll
Baker
Taveras (he's not on the NLDS lineup, but will probably join the team if they advance)

Pitchers
Francis - LH
Jimenez - RH
Fuentes - LH
Corpas - RH

Thanks for doing this!

Progress Report:

Players/names/stats (no ratings) entered for Red Sox, Yankees, D'Backs, Rockies, Angels, Cubs.
All uniforms set (feel free to take a look and comment; the ROM is public on the editor)
No-DH lineups for all teams (David Ortiz and Travis Hafner will attempt to play first base)

I used Dee-Nee's suggestions for all teams, with the exception that the batting order I already had for the Red Sox was different from what nomaaa suggested, and I left that (I had Lugo 8th instead of leadoff, with Pedroia-Crisp at 1-2 - they've been keeping Lugo at the bottom of the order).

TODO
Ratings for all players
Names/stats for Phillies, Padres, Indians, and Tigers
Fielding stats - this is something I have no idea about, other than that I've been reading that the Rockies play really good defense.  Suggestions would be appreciated.

As nomaa said, the "official" optimal Red Sox lineup starts off Pedroia-Youk-Ortiz with Crisp/Lugo batting 8 and 9, as neither Lugo nor Crisp has gotten the job done in the leadoff spot. Of course, if we can't have Youk in the lineup, Lugo or Crisp should technically lead off... though I'd be perfectly fine with them batting second so I could pinch hit Youk for them >_>

Based purely on fielding percentage, defensive ranks should be: Rockies, Red Sox, Phillies, Indians, Yankees, Cubs, Angels, Diamondbacks.

i'm trying to think of how the sox will look in the nl games.
there's no way they can keep youk out of the lineup.
pedroia is a shortstop in the first place, and youk has played a few games at second (he started as a third baseman).

*for the team to be like this, at this point, is a blessing.

I think Moyer is more in the mold of crafty RBI pitchers than Kendrick...

I don't think the Phillies should be allowed Johnny Bench as their first pinch hitter.

AlecTrevylan006

Will stats be based off Arod's regular season or postseason >_>

nomaaa

how's this coming?
