and i concede. houston is the worst in the game... i think saint lou would probably have my heart if i played with them.

The Express

detroit dropped one to boston!

looks like the 1-3 seeds will be determined by how well the mets do in their four games against houston and detroit

Polish Rifle

Nick admitted that he should of dropped two.  Bart choked in the 8th and he hit a 3 run homerun with Rice that they called foul.  Nick said he got lucky.

AlecTrevylan006

Ah, now this is getting more like we're used to...

broiler

NY is the worst in game.  but houston is close

This was sent out to the league today:

Hello Gentleman,

With the eve of the RBI playoffs just a day away, it's time to start considering candidates for the prestigious MVP and Cy Young awards.  To review how the award works, whatever team is voted the best in either the offense or defense categories will select a player off their team for representation and acceptance of the MVP or Cy Young award.  I personally think we should change the names of the awards to the Ty Cobb and Tom Seaver awards, but that's besides the point.  Lets take a look at the top 3 offensive leaders in each category:

Hits/9
1.  Houston (13.25)
2.  San Fran (12.10)
3.  New York (12.08)

Runs/9
1.  San Fran (9.00)
2.  New York (6.49)
3.  Houston (6.07)

Batting Avg.
1.  Houston (0.371)
2.  San Fran (0.349)
3.  New York (0.331)

Homeruns/9
1.  New York (2.39)
2.  Detroit (2.18)
3.  San Fran (1.80)

Stolen Bases/9
1.  Houston (4.55)
2.  New York (1.71)
3.  St. Louis (1.21)

A trend you can see in all the offensive categories is that 3 teams are above the rest.  Those three teams being Houston, San Francisco, and New York.

Randy's Houston club is included in every category except for homeruns, but if you ask Randy, it's not how many homeruns you hit, it's how many runs you bring in.   Randy's also proving that lefties are truly the best hitters in RBI batting a sweet 0.371.  Houston has been tearing up the basepaths with 4.55 stolen bases a game and while stolen bases don't mean a lot in real baseball, they equate to runs in RBI baseball.

Speaking of the runs, San Francisco has a commanding lead in the runs category, and nearly doubles the amount of the 4th place team in that category.  Many people say that San Fran's stats are inflated because of the Austin factor, but prior to those games, San Francisco led the league with 69 runs while not even having the most games in.

Jared's Mets are the only team that makes their presence felt in the top 3 in every offensive category.  Traditionally, MVP awards have been given out to home run hitters.  Despite a recent drop off, New York is atop the league in that category slamming 2.39 a game.
With offensive ranks of 3rd in hits, 2nd in runs, 3rd in batting average, 1st in homeruns, and 2nd in base stealing, it's no doubt that New York has the most well rounded and efficient offenses in the Ellensburg RBI league.

Onto Pitching:

ERA
1.  Houston (1.92)
2.  St. Louis (2.78)
3.  Detroit (3.09)

K/9
1.  Houston (12.24)
2.  San Fran (10.50)
3.  New York (9.8)

Houston's got it.

For the voting process.  Select 3 teams for each category.

1st place =  3 points
2nd place = 2 points
3rd place = 1 point

What do you guys think?  If you care...

Darky

Awesome shit Polsky Rifle. That league is awesome!

My question is who is hitting in the 1 and 8 holes for the Giants?
80's at eight

Polish Rifle

Haha, that's funny that you ask because I was just about to PM you on some of your San Fran strategy.

When I started playing back in the day(preseason), I used to bat Aldrete leadoff because I was informed that lefties are generally better hitters.  I didn't have much success with that so I went with Spilman batting first.  Because of Spilman's speed and Mitchell sucking, I decided to pull a John Kerry and flip-flop Spilman/Speier so that Chilli would actually have somebody behind him to bring him home.  Sometimes when Bobby Thompson is up with 2 outs I'll just leave him in there to save Spilman's bonus.  But the Candyman is my MVP thus far.

As the season has progressed I've been throwing the "S" pitch with Krukow and Big Daddy Reuschel.  It has earned me shutouts in my last 4 league games but I still think I need to expand my pitching catalog.  I still will have trouble with Krukow against right handed hitters when I set up on TV right.  I generally pitch 5 innings with Krukow and then bring in Big Daddy to finish the game out.

AlecTrevylan006

So, wait, did the playoffs happen yet?

I hope you kept score cards...

Polish Rifle

Yeah, they happened.  I'll post the full recap tomorrow.

#90
Heading into the playoffs the standings looked like this:

1.   New York (10-3)
2.   San Francisco (10-4)
3.   Houston (10-4, lost tiebreak game to SF)
4.   St. Louis (7-5)
5.   Detroit (6-6)
6.   Boston (3-8)
7.   Minnesota (2-11)
8.   California (0-5)

Minnesota and California did not qualify in the top 6 for the playoffs and New York and San Francisco received byes.  Some games weren't played because everybody was going to beat California anyway so we just started the playoffs.  We did first round "one and done:, 2nd and WS best of 3.

(3) Houston vs. (6) Boston

Jim Rice had a huge game hitting 2 homeruns but it was poor fielding in the 8th that opened the door for Houston to come from behind to win.  Houston wins 4:2.

(4) St. Louis vs. (5) Detroit

St. Louis had a 2-0 record against Detroit during the regular season thanks to masterful pitching by Tudor.  He once again came through and St. Louis was able to score on an error to win this nail biter.  St. Louis wins 2:1

(2) San Fran vs. (3) Houston

After being demolished by Houston 10-0 in their first regular season game, San Fran had won their last two against Houston including the tiebreak game for seeding.

Game 1- Houston was able to strike out 14 San Fran batters but allowed 2 homeruns to lose the game.  San Fran wins 3:1

Game 2- The combination of Krukow/Big Daddy Reuschel held Houston to 5 hits en route to a victory.  San Fran wins 2:1

(1) New York vs. (4) St. Louis

St. Louis had split during the regular season with their most recent game being a 10 run offensive showing by St. Louis.

Game 1- New York took advantage of misplaced balls over the plate and slammed 3 homeruns for an easy victory.  New York wins 8:2

Game 2- Adjusting their pitching strategy St. Louis was able to hold New York to only 6 hits, but unfortunately could not perform in extra innings.  New York wins 2:1 (10 innings)

World Series (1) New York vs. (2) San Francisco

San Francisco and New York split their games in the regular season but New York had won its game more comfortably winning 8-4 in the first meeting.

Game 1- Both teams came out making solid contact hitting two homeruns each except for San Fran had an extra man on base when the Candyman went long.  San Fran wins 5:4

Game 2- Ojeda had himself a game only allowing 2 hits as San Fran could not adjust.  The New York offense provided two more homeruns.  New York wins 2:1

Game 3- Ojeda and Gooden used masterful pitching and Darryl and company supplied three more homeruns to cruise to an easy victory and the Season 1 Ellensburg RBI title.  New York wins 5:0

The World Series was somewhat anti-climactic because after everybody lost their would leave my house pissed.  New rule in Season 2: Everybody has to stay during the playoffs.

Official award results:

MVP- Candy Maldonado
Cy Young- John Tudor
World Series Champ- New York Mets

We had this happen during one of the games.

Attezz

I have a feeling that if it was the other way around (Hou getting the pitcher glitch), he would have just struck out the side and not said anything about it.

Also, this happens a lot when we used to play, because you get so set on knowing who you're pinch hitting.

The Express

i concede... houston is the worst... either that or i just got owned. probably a combo of the two.

tie breaker game i have a one run lead late in the game and i get eggs (fly ball error) with two outs and two on. san fran immiately gets a run and moves another guy over to third. next pitch is a hit and i'm down one and lose the game.

then in game one of the second round i am playing san fran again and i only strike out six times and can't get any hits or runs. un-be-lieve-able. i felt like i played about as good as i could and i got pwnd.

next season i get detroit so i'll have something to compare houston to. if i lose miserably again tho i think i'll go to saint lou if brandon wants to trade. but with the first pitch of my first practice game with detroit i hit a "Silent But Deadly" with a-tram

TbT

Sounds more like the competition is catching up with you.  We've said all along just how shitty Houston is.

Since the competition is catching up to the better owners in the league, we have elected to do a fantasy draft.  We're going to put the rom on an Xbox, or play it off of computers hooked up to TV's.  Should be pretty sweet.

I like how by editing the rom we have new teams (Baltimore, KC, Florida, Milwaukee, Cleveland, LA, Oakland, Chicago Cubs, Colorado & Pittsburg) and...

the 2nd player calling time option is pretty cool.

Polish Rifle

I was going to give the 1st pick in the draft the worst Error % like Detroits (4.7% per play), but I ran a mock draft and all the power numbers are very very close.

Question:  Should I give every team the same % of committing an error OR should I put the %'s (4.7%-1.6%) as 10 different picks in the draft so people could essentially choose their team defense?  What do you think?

Attezz

I'd go with the same error rate across the board, to make it fair.

Are you doing a fantasy draft with original RBIers?
