Also up for discussion are worst reliever(s) and overall best single reliever.

Please note that this is for a no special rules game, so no straight pitch/slurve/etc.

anyone ever notice that if you drop a deuce on someones windshield in sub-freezing temperatures, its pretty damn hard to get off once it freezes.

Welcome to the boards Re-Peat!  Great topic, I don't think we've ever done this before.

I'm mostly straight pitch so my opinon shouldn't be taken as gospel, but I'm going with the Mets.  To me you have to have two good guys to qualify.  This eliminates Boston (Schiraldi), Cali (Moor), Detroit (King), Houston (Smith) right off the bat.  Garrelts, Worrell and Senor Smoke, while a bit better than the guys mentioned, also lack movement.  And since I don't play with all stars, that leaves the Mets

Orosco is damn tough to hit with his movement and side arming.  McDowell has decent movement and a nasty drop ball and they have a lefy & righty.

For the worst, I have to go with California.  Truly brutal.

Attezz

I went with Saint Louis, but could also make a case for Min.

Stock

I went with Am since they are the only team that I ranked 2 relievers in the top ten.

Franco and Bedrosian for me.  Franco brings the lefty heat to the table and Bedrosian gives the funky sidearm delivery.  New York is a close, close second, mostly due to Orosco and his lefty sidearm but McDowell doesn't stack up quite as well.

I'll admit that I don't really remember how well McDowell pitches, but I remember the drop and his #s looked decent.  Would one rather have a McDowell or a flamethrower like Garrelts/Senor Smoke with a little less movement?

NY.

Orosco gives me a huge RBI man boner.  Jack mac has a pretty decent fastball and a great drop ball.  C is for cookie, its good enough for me.

I want to change my vote to NY.
I rank McDowel 3rd best overall, and Orosco 11th.

That is better than Am's 5th and 10th.

Thanks for the welcome.  I figured a board full of flatlanders could use the influence of an old fashioned cheesehead.

I'm also a NY guy that's in love with Orosco, but his stamina leave much to be desried.  I just posted this because I wondered if people had good opinions about other teams' bullpens that I might try something else out that I like.

And don't ridicule me, but I actually just play against the computer and try to complete seasons, which is why I ask for overall bullpen strength.  What can I say, I have no friends.  Well, none with R.B.I. at least!  I actually play it online at virtualnes.com (awesome site) while I'm bored at work or something of the like.  If that site rigged up multiplayer for its games it would be insanely awesome.

Without too much thought, id throw it out there that CAL is possibly has the worst relievers.  2 righties to coincide with the righty starters is not good.  Corbett is somewhat serviceable, and Moore is completely not.  I need a lefty in the mix to feel good about my chances.

In similar situations, at least Kerfeld throws sidearm.

Charlie Nerf Kerfeld is pretty much my favorite reliever in the game, I'd take him over both Boston relievers combined (as if that means much).

Unfortunately, I'd only put in Smith against the bottom of an opposing lineup if I could help it.

I'd say New York then, because we don't play with the the All Star teams except for all star games in the original, and with the studly lineups it's hard for me to gauge.

Of course, we play our custom version exclusively these days, so my memory might be fading. In that, Cubs have the best bullpen, though Boston has the best reliever in Wakefield. Never has a pitcher caused so many broken beer bottles and crushed cans... my friend actually threatened the NES with a broken bottle because of him

Yeah, as far as the worst go it has to be a toss-up between Cali and fkn Boston.  Schiraldi and Stanley suck hard.

FYI, some folks have gotten online RBI working with the NEStopia emulator - I got in a game a couple weeks ago with nomaaa, and while it wasn't lag-free, it worked reasonably well for a straight-pitch game, and you could probably play anything-goes with a little practice.  See this thread for more information.

I believe Strassy pitched a complete game shutout (or some such feat) against me using Kefeld.  One of the more improbable games of RBI the two of us have played.

I wouldn't brag about that too much buddy...
