I'll be running the second version of the dynasty rom...it's the one with higher offensive parameters. So expect more scoring and luscious stats. There is some glitch in this rom with playing a game later...meaning if I shut down the virtual nes, the season resets and goes back to week one. So I'll have to run this entire playoffs today.

The Chargers and Raiders have one the two superbowls from this rom...

AFC

81 Chargers 12-4
95 Colts 11-5
98 Broncos 11-5
91 Oilers 9-7
78 Steelers 11-5
72 Dolphins 13-3

NFC

83 Redskins 11-5
90 Giants 10-6
98 Falcons 10-6
85 Bears 8-8
98 Vikings 9-7
01 Rams 11-5

AFC

95 Colts 17
98 Broncos 7

With Terrell Davis on the sidelines due to injury,  John Elway was unable to find a way to sustain drives consistently as the Colts upset the Broncos at Mile High Stadium

John Harbaugh played efficiently and connected with Sean Dawkins for a 78 touchdown bomb to give the Colts an early lead in which they never surrendered.

NFC

90 Giants 31
98 Falcons 17

The Giants dominated the Falcons on both sides of the ball.
Ottis Anderson and Rodney Hampton chewed up the clock and ran at will all day against an uninspired Falcons defense. They combined to rush for 169 yards.  Dave Meggett was out due to injury.

AFC

78 Steelers 31
91 Oilers 16

The Steel Curtain tightened up in their red zone on three consecutive trips by the Oilers in the first half. The Oilers settled for 3 Tony Zendejas field goals which seemed to inspire the Steelers celebrated defense in the second half as they took control of the game. Terry Bradshaw played a flawless game.

Who determines which teams make the cut as a dynasty in this?  Seems like there are some questionable choices.

Mike, I let the machine run it's thing...the randomness decides.
All I do is run a season on skip from week 1 to week 17 (full speed throttle) then run with the teams I was given. I don't have time or the patience to keep running seasons to get whatever matchups I like.

I am mostly using two different roms(historical teams) and have used two others (original/07 rom) once.

NFC

98 Vikings 35
85 Bears 28

The 98 Vikings overcame a first quarter 14 point deficit and scored 28 unanswered points to win the game.
Robert Smith totaled 262 yards of total offense against the Bears 46 defense.

Dennis Green commented that it's too early to crown anybody.

AFC Divisional Playoffs

81 Chargers 17
95 Colts 20

Cary Blanchard kicked a 50 yard game winning field goal in overtime. Jim Harbaugh continued his come back heroics as he overcame a 14 point halftime deficit in directing the Colts to an upset win.

The 81 Chargers were without offensive stars Chuck Muncie and Charlie Joyner due to injuries. Air Coryell suffered with those two playmakers out of the offense.

NFC

83 Redskins 31
90 Giants 28

John Riggins and his back up replacement Otis Wonsley were both knocked out of the game in the first half by LT and Carl Banks.  But the massive Hogs stepped up and created holes for Joe Washington and Reggie Evans as 4 running backs combined for 176 rushing yards.

Joe Thiesman used mostly three step play action drop back passes to neutralize the quickness of the 90 Giants defense and have enough time to complete 81 percent of his passes for 243 yards. On 3rd and goal, Theisman threw the game winning touchdown pass to Joe Washington with 1:14 remaining in the game.

The classic NFC East Gibbs-Parcells rivalry lived up to its expectations.

AFC Divisional

72 Dolphins 10
78 Steelers 17

In a tight defensive game that featured 7 combined turnovers, the steel curtain stopped a last minute drive by the 72 Dolphins on 4th and 6 from the Steelers 24 yard line.

Franco Harris deserves a lot of credit for his great effort against the no name defense as he rushed and received for 198 yards and scored two touchdowns.

NFC Divisional

01 Rams 38
98 Vikings 20

The greatest show on turf pulled away with their explosive firepower by scoring 14 unanswered points in the 4th quarter.
Marshal Faulk was injured in the 3rd quarter and his status is unknown for the NFC championship game against the 83 Redskins.

Mike Martz confidently stated that the loss of Faulk won't slow down the greatest show on turf.

AFC Championship

95 Colts 10
78 Steelers 28

The 78 Steelers controlled the game on both sides of the ball in a workmen like mentality as they rolled over the surprising 95 Colts. The steel curtain forced 5 turnovers and sacked John Harbaugh 6 times.

The 95 Colts improbable magical run to the AFC title game captured the imagination of a million followers. Chuck Knoll commented that defense is what wins championships, not bandwagon followers.

The Steelers will be making their first ever Superbowl appearance in Tecmo Superbowl VIII.

NFC Championship

83 Redskins 31
01 Rams 28

Mark Mosley drilled a 25 yard field goal in overtime to send the 83 Redskins to Tecmo Superbowl VIII. It will be their first appearance in a Superbowl.

Joe Theisman threw for 355 yards and 4 touchdowns. John Riggins replacement, Reggie Evans, caught five balls for 138 yards including two aerial touchdown grabs.

The Rams were also without some of their stars. Marshal Faulk was inactive and Torry Holt came out in the second quarter after an injury.

The feeling was that the team with the ball last would win. And after the Redskins won the coin toss, it seemed that the game was already decided.

Superbowl VIII

78 Steelers 17
83 Redskins 24

The 83 Redskins held on to win Superbowl VIII 24-17.
The Redskins overcame the absence of John Riggins with great pass defense and two touchdown grabs by Art Monk. The hogs won key battles in short yardage situations by containing the steel curtain.
Darrell Green shut down the acrobatic Lynn Swan to 1 catch for 7 yards. The underrated 83 Redskins defense stepped up their play on key third and fourth downs. Dexter Manley and Dave Butz combined for 8 sacks.

The Steel Curtain did manage to slow down Joe Gibbs record setting scoring offense, but they were caught off balance many times and had trouble figuring out the counter trey and the bunch formation.

I'll be running the version 2 of the Dynasties/historical teams rom. It's the one with stronger defensive parameters...Raiders beat the Bears in the superbowl the last time that rom was ran.

So the run to Tecmo Superbowl IX is on!

NFC

73 Vikings 7
85 Bears 40

The 85 Bears flexed their muscles and had their way on a brisk day at Soldier Field.
Buddy Ryan's 46 defense terrorized the 73 Vikings in an assortment of ways. The Vikings rushed for 1 yard on 15 attempts. The aggressively explosive 46 defense sacked Fran Tarkenton 7 times and forced 4 fumbles. One of which was returned for a touchdown by Mike Singletary.
The Vikings lone score came on a punt return fumble recovered by Jim Marshall for a touchdown in the second quarter.

Jets?

I take requests for you Ryno. Next playoffs I'll see to it that the Jets make it to the playoffs...even if it means running 3-4 seasons on speed skip to get them in the playoffs. After that, I can't help you. The watch playoffs are a sacred thing to me, and handpickin winners takes the fun out of it...but I'm all for handpicking any requests to get to the playoffs, and that's it. The 68 Jets are in both dynasty roms, and they are in a damn tough division.

Okay, results coming shortly.....
