I was just reading my "Uncle John's Bathroom Reader Takes A Swing At Baseball" book, and it had stories about a couple of RBIers (one arcade, one NES):

Don Sutton: Was suspected of using sandpaper to deface the ball (supposedly, his nickname was "Black & Decker"), and once an ump thought he'd caught him and asked to check his glove.  Inside, the ump found a piece of paper, which when unfolded was not sandpaper but a note that said "Not here, but you're getting warmer!"

Dave Winfield: Was traded for dinner.  He was traded from the Twins to the Indians for a player to be named later in 1994, but the strike occurred before he actually played a game in Cleveland, and he was a free agent at the end of the season (he re-signed with the Indians).  To complete the trade, Minnesota and Cleveland executives all went out to dinner, and the Cleveland executives picked up the tab.

I was all ready to call Beefy out on posting 3.5 years ago that Winfield wasn't in Arcade RBI.  But there he is on the Yankees...

Right, Dykstra is innocent also.   ::)

Will Lietch mentioned an RBIer this morning, and it seems like it would be Hall of Shame worthy for a guy who Dee-Nee currently doesn't have an entry for.  George Hendrick hated the media so much that he never gave an interview during his entire career, and he once snuck out of Busch Stadium through a back exit, in uniform, rather than talk to reporters... after his team had just won the World Series.

Another Hall of Shame-worthy note for this thread:

Reggie Jackson is a giant asshole. That much is probably already well-known. I came across this article about Lisa Saxon, a pioneering female sports reporter who spent a lot of time in the Angels clubhouse and endured constant harassment. (I found it via George Hendrick's Wiki page after BeefMaster posted about him above.)

Apparently Jackson was absolutely brutal toward Saxon (as many players were, including Dave Kingman). George Hendrick at one point became so disgusted with Jackson's treatment of Saxon that he got into an altercation in which Jackson, angry, punched a clubhouse wall and injured his hand during a playoff run.

George Hendrick: That guy who hated the media but secretly had a heart of gold.

The article is worth a read.

In an attempt to get her to vote for him for the HOF. (Word was that he thought he could get in with 100% of the vote.)

It was also more of a half-apology (as she describes it), like "Reggie didn't do anything wrong, but if you think that Reggie did, then Reggie is sorry."

fknmclane

Ah yes, that's it. He's a real piece  of shit's piece of shit

The season premiere of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" involves the gang trying to break Wade Boggs' record of drinking 70 beers on a cross country flight. Wade Boggs appears as one of Charlie's hallucinations midway through the attempt.

Apparently, he also told Charlie Day that his record was actually 107 beers in one day.

there are also folks complaining about the lack of Bobby Grich, Dwight Evans, and Willie Randolph.

Brookensrules!

Not sure how much I had but I had about 24 hours in college where I drank a lot of beer.  I'd guess close to 50, maybe a little less so to say Boggs drank 107 in a 24 hour period is amazing.

Already in there:

QuotePedro Guerrero

Suspended from the Mexican League in 1999 - details are sketchy
Was parading around with OJ Simpson's post-Nicole girlfriend Christine Prodey, apparently on coke binges and having sex. OJ didn't take too kindly to this and called 911 on them. Cops showed up and Prody was arrested, though I'm not sure what happened to Pedro...
Arrested in September of 1999 for trying to buy 33 pounds of cocaine from an undercover agent
Was acquitted of drug conspiracy charges in June of 2002 after his attourney argued his low IQ prevented him from understanding that he agreed to a drug deal. You have got to be shitting me...

Please mail me an apology in writing, certified mail.  thx

Just watched the episode (titled "The Gang Beats Boggs), it was excellent did not expect the cameo.  Figure it had been mentioned here
