But you are locking and limiting yourself in the future if you only buy what you can comfortably afford.  Put a larger down payment if you need to limit your monthly payment.  But housing prices are increasing more than your salary and if you only buy what you can comfortably afford don't expect to be able to upgrade much in the future.

So what I'm trying to say is that it's all Barney Frank's fault.
