Will the original become obsolete?

Doubtful. There will always be people who love the feel of the square controller in their hands played on a fuzzy TV. And the old players, that's a draw for some people.

Turd

If it is good, it will likely bring more people to the scene, maybe to deenee, and will hopefully lead to more releases or roster packs.

I think they're keeping the spirit of the original.  It says you can do pretty much everything with two buttons.  Smart move. Simple, fun 2 player game.

RBI as we know it won't be obsolete until guys like us who grew up playing it aren't around anymore.  There is a charm and simplicity about games like RBI, Tecmo, and even the Genesis NHL games that can't be replicated with newfangled technology.

Don't like the graphics and no online play.  Dumb.

bonny

It looks like a shitty ps2 game.

Should have had the fat guys. Quite the let down.

Hell, you can take MLB The Show and tweak it down to 2 buttons and an overhead camera angle.

No online play was a huge mistake IMO.

I really wish they would have just kept original graphics, or cleaned them up slightly (players correct ethnicity color) and just made each MLB stadium unique to each city as they are, with good online play. 81 and 162 season mode, playoff mode.

Gantry

Seems like there is a serious backlash to no onlien play, it may prevent them from getting off the ground with new players.  Especially with short game times and simple controls, seems like the perfect game to do online play with.

Turd

I read it as they are going to do it in the future, but the first iteration is a "phase 1" type thing to see how it does.  Unfortunately, as Gantry so astutely deduced, I think that it isn't a fair test because no online might sour new players...we'll see.

I think it would have been worse for them to put in online play and have it be wonky and crappy. Keep in mind that this is their first console game. It's digital only so they have given themselves some limitations. They also wanted to focus on getting the game play authentic to the original. Being an NCAA Football fan I can appreciate that. If only EA sports took some cues from MLBAM.....

Anyway, if the game sells okay I don't think they'll have any problem adding online play in an update or in RBI 15.
