I used to play fantasy baseball with a dude that was Rabbit Maranville's grandson.  I believe he's widely regarded as statistically the worst player in the HOF.

Definitely one of the worst.  .658 OPS.  He was pretty much an old-timey white version of Ozzie Smith, without the backflips.

Ray Schalk seems to be even slightly worse.  Of all HOF members, he had the fewest home runs (11), lowest avg (.253), lowest slugging % (.316), and third lowest OPS (.656).

He had a huge entry in one of the Baseball Hall of Shame books I read a ton when I was a kid.  I want to say he was the guy who made them pass a rule against stealing first base, although I am not 100% sure of that and not about to google it before I post this.

I never even considered that stealing first base could be a thing.  It would be interesting to see.

I looked it up, and I was wrong - it was Germany Schaefer.

With runners at first and third, Schaefer stole second, hoping to draw a throw for a double steal, but the catcher held the ball.  On the next pitch, Schaefer then took off back for first, again hoping to draw a throw.  The umpire ruled that it was legal because there was no rule against it, so the rules were changed in the offseason to explicitly ban running the bases in reverse order.
