The date is now set at the weekend of June 25.  Games will start that Sat morning (10 or so) and commence throughout the day.  Sunday's games will start at 10 am also.

Doh, I think the official due date is like June 24, so I'm very very very unlikely.  I would really like to go, esp if mcclane, fighton, and others from the forums are going to be there.

JoeD, thanks for all the info.  That definitely helps.  I know you said last minute decisions suck, but that's where mine will fall, I think.  I'll keep you posted.  I really wanna make this happen

I'm in the same boat - our due date is the 14th.  I'd love to go, but the risk of my wife killing me upon my return is too great.

Gantry, if i put together a very small website for this tourney, can I host it on your server, like the COTUT?

I think that might really help increase attendance.

Joe: Have you thought about going to some bars in the Columbus area to see if they'll sponsor the event? My thought is, if they can supply us with an area to put a couple of TVs and NES systems, we can have the games there instead of a hotel. This would allow us to be as rowdy as we want, with easy access to booze and food (perhaps we can cut a discount for tournament participants at the bar).

From the bar's standpoint, they get 16 people who are going to be eating and drinking all day, which is guaranteed money. And, they can promote it to their clientele to either "come watch the RBI World Championships" or have some of their regulars play as well. I'm sure that if this happened at a bar, we would get people who come into the bar, are intrigued, and wind up watching several games.

I think it's a win-win for everyone, and it would be awesome to have a crowd watching the tournament. If you wanted to do it, you would just need to start making phone calls/visits to the managers to sports bars in Columbus and laying out the plan.

Just a thought...

there are also folks complaining about the lack of Bobby Grich, Dwight Evans, and Willie Randolph.

If I had to put a number on my chances of the tourney, I'd say 95%.  The wife is gonna hate me... :)

usc, great idea for the bar thing.  Are we the only west coast rbiers representing?  I wonder if there is a way we can fly out together.

JoeD, what's the list of dee nee members attending?

just wondering...so many people come on here saying they are the best RBI player...who won the COTUT?? I went to the website but its all real actual names....was it someone on here? or a random? and who on this web site did well in the tourny? not really related to the topic, just wanted to know...

fknmclane

I think JoeD placed second or third and ultimate got ninth. I'm sure Joe has the complete standings.

im prolly retarded enuf to go to this dang thing.....i guess ill have to see how finances are after the winter, probably late march i would know...just depends on if there is still any spots left by then.  i aint got a wife to worry about, so im golden there.

hmmm, maybe catch a bus on friday morning if it connects in time, from iowa to ohio,, or else see if i can hop on one from ames on thursday night and see if i can share a room or something....wouldnt really be a costy trip by any means i guess.  maybe drop 80-100 bucks on fare.  i really need to go to milwaukkee metal fest first and foremost this comming summer, but if i can budget this in as well, then hell yeah!

ill follow along with the post and see how things go.

Hey guys...glad to see there's chatter about the tourney again.  I promise that if you attend, you will love it.  Put it this way: I attended the COTUT (which is held every other year) and decided that I could not wait until 2006 for another experience like a national RBI tourney.

For the record, my buddy Riley (aka mfriley33 on the forums) won the COTUT.  He and I have been playing for the last 15 years and are exactly equal in the game.  Oh, I finished 4th, by the way.

The point is, these tourneys are so exciting because it's all about catching streaks at the right time.  If Riley and I are equal (he will say we are), and he finished 1st and I finished 4th, then anybody can win!

got a few questions about how the actual play works out.....i read thru it, but the wordage was a bit funky to read.

when you play the first series, is it my understanding that you and your opponent dont have the same teams for all 2 or 3 games, in the first round.  it sounded like there was rotating of teams or something like that.

maybe you guys can just give me the quick over view of how the dang tourney works, with all the ins and outs.(pun not intended)

also whats the miniumun number of games that a guy is guaranteed to play during the tourney, just in case you get yer clock cleaned that is, i wanna know how short this could be as well.

thanks

It's actually very simple...the COTUT went like this:

* No All Star teams
* Coin flip to determine who picks first
* No player can use the same team twice in any given series.
* No team can be used twice until all teams are used.  For example, in a 7 game series, all 8 teams will have been used after game 4.  In games 5,6,7, each player can only choose teams that the opponent used in games 1-4.

Our rules will be similar to these; however, there will be some slight altercations that will be detailed in the tourney webpage.

As far as how many games you are guaranteed to play, the number can really be almost unlimited, as side games will break out (for money or for fun--I'm sure there'll be both).

I think Joe and I both think we underperformed.  My honest analysis is that the Top 4 (JoeD included) were at another level than the rest of the field, and they could have finished in any order.

I need to play great and have them be off to have a chance to beat any of them, that being said, I really think I should have finished 5th or 6th and at least put myself in position to play into the Top 4.

Yeah, I was off my game.  That's the beauty of this whole thing--anybody who catches the right streak at the right time is in a killer position...
