Tonight I host Big Apple RBI champ for some classic NES RBI Baseball.  It should be a no holds barred affair, complete with Joe trying to foul off pitches with his pitcher to tire out my starter.

notice the complaining has begun already.  if you don't want me to foul off pitches, then just walk him!

i am getting mentally ready here at the office.  i am picturing nasty breaking stuff.

Is this practice for the OH RBI Tourney?   ::)

What do people generally think about fouling off foul balls with the pitcher to tire the opposing pitcher?

This is a particularly tough practice with a 1 SP rule.  I usually throw a two strike cutter to try to eliminate this from occuring.

I do, however, thinks it's acceptable strategy.  I happen to think anything goes really means anything goes...

It's not just "acceptable", it's pretty much mandatory. Especially when you get deep into some line-ups with two outs. Craig Reynolds is much more useful fouling off eight or nine pitches than swinging away on the first pitch and flying out to shallow center.

there are also folks complaining about the lack of Bobby Grich, Dwight Evans, and Willie Randolph.

JoeDirt

Yeah, I was gonna say that's what Robby Thompson is all about...

I hope Blyleven No No reads this.  Last year I got ripped for employing this strategy at our tourney.

Anything goes means anything goes.  So I think it should be okay.

As for the slurve that we play, if a player fouls off three or more in a row, one of two things happens: the batter gets plunked or said players nuts get plunked with a controller.

I just wiped my ass then smelled the toilet paper.  What's wrong with me?

Congratulations go out to Blyleven No No.

First series we played was Boston vs. SF.  I was Boston.  Boston won Game 1 12-9, with a dramatic 3 run job by Bill Buckner in the ninth.

A first time glitch happened, where I pinch hit for Schiraldi with Sullivan, yet the computer let Schiraldi stay out there the next inning.  Bly and I were perplexed.  I offered to bring in Hurst (as per the original plan) which would leave me with just 2 relivers and no starters for Game 2, but he insisted we are playing anything goes, so I was able to keep Schiraldi in.  Schiraldi closed out bottom 9, and I had the 12-9 win.

Game 2 was 3-1 San Fran in the 7th I believe, when the NES blinked and reset.  We reverted back to the last completed inning and gave SF the win.

Because our hearts were no longer in that series (such an emotional roller coaster), we decided to go with a new series- Detroit (me) vs. Mets.

Doyle/ Guillermo/ Doc/ Uncle Jesse pitched great, and it was 1-0 gong to the bottom of the ninth.   NY hit back to back jacks off King to win it.  I cursed Eric King and swore I would never use him again.

That obviously took the wind out of my sails.  In Game 2 NY took an early 4-0 lead including a Ray Knight home run and held it until the 9th.  I hit a three run bomb (perhaps Chester but I forget) but I couldn't complete the comeback- stranding the tying run in scoring position.

Bottom line, a VERY high level of RBI was played last night.  I commend Blyleven No No for his excellent play, and look forward to the tournament.

Yeah Gantry, we had never seen that before.  We were 100% positive that Joe put Sullivan in for Schiraldi, and then they allow Schiraldi to come out and throw??

An instant classic in game 1 of the NY-DET series, I was down to my last out when Keith Hernandez turned on an Eric King fastball and took it out to right-center to tie the game at 1.  The very next pitch, perhaps King was in shock, over the fat part of the plate to Gary Carter and he rips it out to left, game over.

In game 2, Ojeda pitched great, 6 innings of shut-out ball.  And New York had a 4 run lead going into the 9th until Bill Madlock put up a three run job, McDowell got the last out and saved the 4-3 victory.

my strategy in game 2 was to tire out bobby o so he would only go 5.  he had more stamina than i expected, and he was able to go 6.  that's a big difference, as it's a lot easier to get 9 outs from uncle jesse and oddibe than 12 outs.
